There is nothing to be afraid of. Just don't listen to Khell or Tattersail (G. Paron?) and don't trust Morgoth or D'rek. In short just listen to me and you'll do just fine. :(

CF may have more board setup stuff to do, but if we've got our 9 players we could randomize ourselves now and we could start picking races. I don't think we need the actual images and stuff all setup to do that - people can look at the game #2 thread for the differences between the races and can discuss here if not sure. It might take a bit of time to go through everyone picking, so might be good to start now.Thoughts?And sounds like we are confirmed using the supernovas and pulsars, then?

I'm pretty sure everyone knows my thoughts about getting the order all set up so we can start picking races but for those of you with barely a pulse. I agree. Let's get the play order determined so we can start picking our races.

I vote we wait until everything is completely set up, and then have a three-day "rest and relaxation" period before randomising picking order. After that, we have a five-day period in which to discuss various race options, before the actual final selection process.

Khell has anyone ever told you that you are the Devil incarnate?
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Well I'm not a placeholder, but just to confirm I can't play this time. I have a Phd thesis to write and this last game distracted me far too much.

I can perhaps serve as a neutral party provisional repository if needed.

Can serve as an occasional "wtf should I do here?" oracle?

I can give you some advice from last game, Gnaw.

1) Don't play with complete honesty and trust. Tatts did and he got pounded into cosmic dust before you could say 'Round 6'.

But also

2) Don't play as if it's mafia. I did, and my paper empire and its phantom armada was brutally torn down without mercy at endgame. Turns out, when everyone can actually see what you've got, it's a lot harder to deceive them :(

Also, kick twelve in his hex-shaped balls before he gets going.

You win one lousy game and everyone thinks you are the shit and need to afraid of me. Sheesh, this feels like Diplomacy all over again.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Each race has its advantages. I am looking at what I want to go as and there are about 3 or 4 that I am happy to choose from.

It would be nice to be able to try an expansion race, but I'm fine either way.

Per everyone's request, here is play order for Game III

For reference, look at Eclipse Game II thread. All of the relevant info on races' various advantages/disadvantages are contained in Post 9 on the first page.

======================
Player numbers (from page 1):

1- Morgoth
2- Khell
3- cerveza_fiesta
4- Tattersail (ganoes paran)
5- Twelve
6- D'rek
7- Tapper
8- Solidsnape
9- Gnaw

Randomized list using the "sample without replacement" function in Scilab (and I swear to absolute fuck the first two are purely coincidental):

1- cerveza_fiesta
2- Twelve
3- Tapper
4- Solidsnape
5- D'rek
6- Morgoth
7- Ganoes Paran
8- Gnaw
9- Khell

=====================================

Race selections

As I recall from last game, we select in order from top to bottom of the randomized list. Selections are made from the available race pairings. once a race from a pair is selected, the remaining race is removed from the selection pool. This is a good way to ensure a particular race is not played if you happen to not want that race in the game.

Eridani / Terran Directorate
Hydrani / Terran Federation
Planta / Terran Union
Descendants of Draco / Terran Republic
Mechanema / Terran Conglomerate (white)
Orion Hegemony / Terran Alliance
The Exiles / Wardens of Magellan
Rho Indi Syndicate / Keepers of Magellan (grey)
Enlightened of Lyra / Sentinels of Magellan

==============================================

Before we make selections, I'm wondering what we're going to do about Descendants. Do we replace them with something else in their pairing or just remove them so that Terran Union is the only selectable race in that pair?

CF has assumed control of the galactic council

Game thread is up but currently empty.

Could everyone in the game please go to the thread and post a single placeholder post on the first page? No sense ccccccccc-combo breaking or posting twice because I'll just delete any intervening posts that don't fit the first page format.

We're aiming for in post order

1- game board and rules links
2- reference
3- reference
4- reference
5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 - one post for each player where brief turn summaries will be posted.

Normally, the player who goes first, selects race last and vice versa as a balance. When I play at home we normally let the person who gets number 1 choose whether he wants to go first or select first... so your choice CF.

BOOO!! BOO I say! Coincidence my beautiful sculpted ass! Khell last too...although if that actually means I get my pick of any race I want, then I suppose it's not so bad. Hah! Outfoxed you again CF!

Regarding descendants and planta, the rules normally are that you can only play terran (which isn't bad as they are probably the most balanced, easiest to play race), in real game thats the only option as it's difficult to fix the other side of the card to play the same race. In this game however I wouldn't see a problem making the magellan the other selection as the other race designed to be played by multiple players.

RE game cards: What IH says makes sense. A multi-player race is probably the way to go as an alternative to DofD.

So we will have a possible fourth magellan faction? It's unlikely that many will choose magellan but if it happens I'll edit in another picture and we can make up a fun name.

SO IN PLACE OF DESCENDANTS YOU CAN CHOOSE MAGELLAN.

==================================

I am up in the air. I kind of want to try one of the races, but Terran is appealing too.

Does my choosing to "go first" simply reverse the choosing order so Khell would have the first race choice?

I promise to make my selection here soon. Just reading about the races.

yep that is how we normally play it. And there would be a fifth possible magellan with the planta being replaced, or did you decide not to replace them? If you are playing no alliances i wouldn't include them either.

I thought it was just DoD that was too OP for 9player games. I'm happy with the consensus on it because I didn't want to play either. I have made my race decision, so as soon as we're decided on the DoD/Planta issue then it's off to the races (hyuk hyuk)!

EDIT

just re-read d'reks post and the rulebook. DoD and Planta should not be played in 7 player (or more) games. Let's just go with the rules on this to keep it simple and balanced.
