NE Velen and a Windmill. Felt like a badass escorting a bunch of pigs to the temple while fighting off Nekkers. :(

for me it was bugged, cuz I never could get the prompt to examine the pigs... so it's one of the handful incomplete quests in my game still.

Actually went on for an hour the other day.

I'm still cold at the sameness of all the quests. Find a thing, sniff the thing, track the thing, boop the thing.

Like most open-world RPGs?

TW3 lives and dies by its writing. It either works for a player or doesn't, but the point is to avoid the typical fetch quest token writing.

That's the thing. The writing is beautiful, it's visually gorgeous, and overall the story is enjoyable. Just the endless repetition grinds me down.

I understand the weariness of grinding. I'm level 27 and I think I've completed all the quests within my level (except gwent and horse racing) in Novigrad and Velen. I'm moving on to Skellige to advance the story and grab some enhanced witchers gear. That secondary quest and Witchers contract quest lists are pretty sizable. I'm not sure I want to grind away at it.

Yeah, if you are looking for increasing variation in combat to take you through the grind, TW3 isn't that. It's defined itself pretty rigily by sticking to the source material.

If the cons of the grind outweigh the pros of the writing, the story, and the world, then fair's fair, TW3 is not a game for you. I'm guessing Divinity: Original Sin games would be more up your alley, since Larian's focus seems to be on interactions between various skills and systems.

The combat isn't actually the problem - it's the fact that every non-story quest is the same. Find the thing, sniff the thing, track the thing, boop the thing. About the only break from that was getting drunk to lure out a vampire.

I just did that mission!

I'm back on Skellige trying to round up allies, finish up mid 20-level quests, and get upgrades for my Witcher gear.

That's about where I've been up to. Currently in the south hunting some guys down.

I'm so tired of running around trying to find ingredients to make White Gull. Please tell me there isn't a potion level above superior. I've got about 3 potions left to upgrade...

It took me until Blood and Wine to upgrade a bunch of stuff that required troll stomachs, because I refused to kill any named trolls in the main game.

I've enjoyed talking to the Trolls as well. I think the first ones I killed were at Kaer Morhan with Lambert.

Speaking of Kaer Morhan,

I finally uninstalled this. The straw that broke the camel's back was an escort quest in which the person you're escorting can get donkey punched out of nowhere and dies in two hits.

Escort quests are always shitty, but one in which the person you're escorting (a bounty hunter) dies that quick? Nah.

Unfortunately Witcher 3 was another hype train that ultimately failed to deliver. Which is annoying because the opening segments had a lot of promise and I really, really wanted to like it.

Thanks.

I wrapped up things at Bald Mountain and got to level 31. I'm back in Novigrad and I think I'm going treasure hunting for the next level Witcher school gear diagrams.

I spent the last 2 nights running around getting superior and master-crafted manuscripts for the Witcher gear. Tonight should get me the last of the Ursine master-crafted 'scripts. After that I think I'm off to the show down with the Wild Hunt.

Urgh, ursine. Wolf armor is where it's at. I don't care about the stats, it's the only outfit that doesn't look goofy or impractical.

Honestly I hated the look of pretty much all the armor and clothing in the game. Especially since the game starts out with you wearing super cool chain mail. I remember downloading a mod that allowed you to upgrade the starting armor like other Witcher gear.

WRONG. Manticore armour is the best and I don't want to hear any arguments.

Mastercrafted Feline Armor. You'll be able to do somersaults around any enemy.
