Just wait, Eman Esfandi who plays Ezra absolutely NAILS his portrayal, he is fucking NOTE-PERFECT as the character and has his mannerisms and tone and nature all down pat. It's amazing. Like the animated version walked into live action.

I would argue yes... The biggest revelation in the finale of AHSOKA was:

Baylen standing on giant LOTR-sized statues of the Mortis Trio (he was on the Father; beard and all), and the Sister's head was not present....and that's likely due to the fact that she sacrificed herself for Ahsoka during the Clone Wars....but yeah since Filoni's movie (that this season was a prologue to) is literally called HEIR TO THE EMPIRE...so that's the Thrawn stuff....but also diving into the NJO-era either Baylen or Shin takes the place of Jacen Solo from Legends in that they will release Abeloth (the Mother) from her prison (which...I mean it's HELLA cool that not only was she imprisoned, but she was imprisoned in an WHOLE other galaxy, on a planet where the Nightsisters hold sway...which I assume is Filoni's New Canon answer to The Maw prison in the original Old EU.) And then you have her attempting to recreate the balance by trying to make Ben Skywalker (Jedi) and Vestara Khai (Sith) into the new Son and Daughter....only stopped by Luke. Could that be Ezra and Shin in this timeline? I had Shin nailed down as this version of HEIR's Mara Jade, and ending up with Ezra romantically and turned to the light....but I'm not sure.

I DO think that the voice calling to Morgan was NOT the Nightsisters as she assumed....I think it was Abeloth. There was a moment in the scene where the Nightsisters were like "You heard our pleas and instructions"...and Morgan paused a moment...I'm convinced she was hearing something else entirely...a dark force god.

And what better to use as a BIG Bad for a movie than something that transcends the Jedi, Sith, Empire, Republic ect. A Dark Force God. Malevolence incarnate.

Add in that SKELETEON CREW is the next show up and features Jude Law as a former Jedi scholar leading a group of young people who accidentally end up in the galaxy where Peridea is....long has it been speculated that SKELETON CREW is this Canon's OUTBOUND FLIGHT...so you either get a Jedi scholar who knows about Abeloth's presence there...OR....OR....since OUTBOUND FLIGHT was a latter attempt to show everyone where Joruus C'Baoth came from and how he went mad....maybe Jude's Jedi character will go mad?

But yes, there are very clearly pushing towards Abeloth. And I'm here for it!

Can I just say that while I liked the NJO era of the old EU, I got WAYYYYYYYY more out of the post-Jacen/DarthCadeus Lost Tribe of the Sith/Fate Of the Jedi series where the Jedi and Sith had to work together against a common foe...so this is cool to me as that's the most content of Abeloth in the whole Saga

Thank you for laying this out. I remembered a good bit about this but it's been awhile so it's all a bit fuzzy these days.

I've had the same feelings about Shin being a new canon take on Mara. I've always felt the character was too popular to not get some version of her as we have with Thrawn.

I've avoided too much info about SKELETON CREW so far, but the tease that it may be a new take on OUTBOUND FLIGHT is rather exciting.

I would say that my only reserve about Filoni going down the Abeloth path is that I don't feel like 1 movie would really cover her appropriately. So much of the new canon media just feels rushed to me and I worry this will end up the same way.

Since the other two movies that were announced at the same time were the origin of the Jedi movie in the deep past (James Mangold), and the post-TROS Rey-rebuilds the Jedi order movie...I could see it ALL tying in...the ancient Jedi movie being the very earliest instance of the Mortis/Ones crew and Abeloth when she was the Mother still before she drank from the Dark Fount and became evil/dark side incarnate..and Heir could be about her release and then havoc she begins to cause and they perhaps seal her off again, only for her final confrontation to be against Rey and her students in the Rey movie...like it makes sense to me that all three were announced at the same time that they'd tie them together.

EDIT: The Ancient Jedi movie I could even see how they do it...The Mother's part of the Mortis/Ones family is trying to keep the balance between the Brother and the Sister...so that ties right into the split that will occur when the Jedi are formed and whoever leaves them to become Sith/Dark Siders...and in the end she attempts to keep the peace by drinking from the Fount to gain enough power to do so...only it's too much and she falls to the Dark Side and we see that she's imprisoned (by the Nightsisters and the Jedi?) on Peridea....which is where Baylen finds her in AHSOKA...like it fits REALLY cleanly into the concept of a powerful being that can't be killed and must be sealed away....and then you could have Rey and her students fight her and want to seal her away again only for Rey to realize that maybe what needs to happen is the Mother needs to be turned BACK into the Mother and they find a way to restore that balance? Just a thought...

Watching Star Wars with the kids is tricky. What age is old enough? By the time they are absorbing who the characters are just by existing, and want to see it, they are still pretty young. I don’t show my kids much violence and people getting killed on screen, but make an exception for Star Wars. Like my 4 year old knows who everyone is and wants to see it, especially silly the mandalorian, but that show opens with several people getting killed and one of them cut in half. Too much? Acceptable because look how cute grogu is? I don’t know.
