I'm drooling at the thought of Star Trek reboot style space battles.

Mmmm. Gimme them K and E wings!

It's probably a silly thing to hope, but I'm praying that they follow the visual style of the originals. I don't know about the rest of you, but I always thought the ships in the originals looked way better. The explosion of color in the prequels was quite "meh." Give me plain gray X-wings with their red stripes, giant gray star destroyers (these better still be around, even without the empire!), and sexy gray Millenium Falcon. This is fucking space anyway, the ships don't need colors. If you're relying on a ship's coloring to tell if it's friend or foe in a space firefight, you're probably fucked anyway.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

I don't think that's too much to expect, as the prequels dealt with a Golden Age where there was much more colour...the rebellion era and even afterwards is comprised of a lot of grey and white repaints that are stock standard due to lack of coinage, and X-Wings continue to look like they did 40+ years later...with I think only Jaina's Stealth (matte black) X-Wing Squad differing...but you can expect y-wings, b and a-wings and the Falcon...all of which have that grey tonal value.

So yeah, I'm of the mind that the colour schemes in the new films will be closer to the OT rather than the PT.

Here here!!

Plus JUST to piss off QT I want fucking PUPPETS!!

This, because, to me, using puppets to portray aliens/monsters in movies make it seem like the creators actually care about making a good movie instead of just slapping on some cgi and call it the day!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

In fairness, I don't have a problem with the tech porn in the PT - several of the ships are things of beauty (the Naboo Royal Starship is what the Heart of Gold in HHGTTG should have looked like). The aliens less so, but then organic things always date faster.

It needs a good balance of CG and practical effects really though.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I think alot of my dislike for CG characters just has to do with the current times and advancement of tech. Like when the prequel came out at the time I thought everything looked fucking fantastic! It wasnt till just a few mth ago when I caught AOTC on cable I was thinking to myself how silly and out dated everything looked Ex: the Banking Clan Muun just made me lol it was so horrible to me but in the theater and DVD release it didnt bother me one bit. Now compared to the OT (and Im not trying to restart the issue) I can still watch puppet Yoda and grin like a kid. Plus all those glorious Star Destoryers, and X Wings I just feel like there is "substance" to them and the puppets rather then feeling like Im watching a cutsence on my PS3/360.

ED Ofcourse everything would look topnotch with current tech if they went mainly CG route again Id just worry that in another 10-15 yrs if I would have the same feeling as I just recently did...

I'm going to disagree and say that the last time I watched one of the original star wars movies a lot of the effects looked like cardboard, IMO. There's something weird about the robots, ships and especially the lasers where their edges are way too clearly defined, making them look like a prop on a wire moving past a theatrical backdrop instead of actually blending with the background into a single perspective'd image. I only really noticed it on Hoth, though, so maybe it's just the rocky/snowy backgrounds that bring it out and it works better in space/cloud planet.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...it's just nostalgia that makes puppets and matte paintings and old laser effects more desirable to some folk. Most modern children (born after 2000) find even the OT effects to look hokey.

I don't think he has to go full reboot. There's no real precedent for EU movies or tv shows and he's free to adapt basically anything in the EU for what he wants.

I really, really hope it's the Thrawn books - but with the twist of having Jacen and Jaina as teens already. That sets them up for the Yuuzhan Vong in future movies and even further on down the line.

Too bad we don't get Luke/Callista in my vision though. Luke/Mara/Ben could sorta happen if they do a Thrawn trilogy. Pop Ben out at the end.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

The I, Jedi book would make a good movie or two. Especially if they want to do individual stories and an 'avengers' style tie-in. I agree that the Thrawn stuff would be great, as would say the Corellian Trilogy, if that name is right? Luke on Dathomir would be a good movie.

I really hope they don't go to the Yuuzhan Vong stuff. I'm just not interested in that whole series.

Unless he's REALLY messing with the canon of time, it's won't be the Thrawn books...with the OT cast already been asked back, they are too old to do the Thrawn tale (which is only 5 years post-Jedi)...aside from which Zahn has already said his books were always meant to fill the gap to the next set of films (if there were going to be any). If they are going with an era, it will be with the latest Skywalker kid already in their teens and those that surround them.

I honestly think they could swing a Thrawn + Jedi Academy Series into one trilogy.

The key is you have to integrate the Mara Jade and Academy plots into one timeline, excise the Kessel parts and Suncrusher but leave the Cluster in an finally have Thrawn as the big bad with Daala as the secret other bad.

Could be done.

Would be great.

Sorry HD, but the Jedi Academy Trilogy was terribad. Check safe, put the bad idea down and back away ... :D

Thrawn OTOH is such a cool character he stands up among other cool characters from many other genres. You could do a trilogy with him alone, just sitting in a chair thinking cool thoughts. :D
Kind of like if Venom had been done properly, Spiderman 3 wouldn't have had (or needed) any other bad guys and would have actually been a good film instead of a steaming turd.

I figured taking out the Kessel part could lead to great stuff.

Luke has to have some Jedi's training or searching for them, at least.

Thrawn is kicking the shit out of everybody.

The inner black hole Maw scenes would be AWESOME.

I was thinking 90% Zahn, 10% Anderson's good ideas.

Jerk. :D

In the grand scheme of things, I have a sketchy feeling they will either change Mara Jade's past as a villain, or eliminate her altogether from the proceedings. Her backstory is heavy and with Hamill already being in his 60's, it's kind of ludicrous to suggest that he'd be wooing a girl from the dark side who will eventually have his kid...I'm more of the mind they'll jettison her from the mythology altogether (a travesty, I know) and make Luke have no significant other at all, and have him concentrating on the next generation of Jedi and training them (which would be a full time endeavor)...and the Skywalker heir (Read: Protagonist of the new films) would instead come from Han and Leia (be it Jaina or Jacen or some new creation for the films).

It's just REALLY hard to fit Mara Jade (as she exists) into the movies at this point without requiring MASSIVE flashbacks...but she could be added (and therefore so could Ben) if they ditched her complicated backstory and just made her a Jedi instead, or came up with a new film backstory for her that wouldn't require major flashbacks to set up.

And I still feel that the ONLY way to go is with a female lead. We've had two male leads in the Skywalker mythos so far, I'd like to see a female lead (even if she isn't Jaina...but she should be Jaina cause Jaina is BADASS!)

Jumping Thrawn forwards to a time when the Solo kids are teens and perhaps the Skywalker/Jade kid is about to be born is the best possible movie set-up I can imagine.

I hope the Noghri rock. No lisping Gungans or thbbpptthhing Ewoks, please.

My requirements for the movie:

1. No Yuuzhan Vong

2. Leia should probably avoid getting back into the gold bikini at this point. Just saying.

Other than that, I can't wait to see what they come up with!
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.
