I seriously hope they show no interest in that EU stuff other than as a source for ideas. The little I've tried to leaf through has been so terribly written I lost any and all interest. As far as I'm concerned that stuff is delegated to the same category of quality as books tied to Warhammer and Magic the gathering.

The odd things is that for the most part, the Warhammer books I've read have been better than the Star Wars books. Obviously the Thrawn books, Shadows of the Empire, the Crystal Star and a couple others were very well done, but the rest of the ones I read are not good. I stopped somewhere in the 3/4s stage of the Yuuzhan Vong saga as the quality was just not ever going to get better (because people were buying the dreck en masse).
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I hope they just don't decide to piss all over EU and do whatever they want. That'd be a shame, there are some great stories there. But I semi-agree with Morgoth, alot of the EU stuff is simply horrible.
I agree with Amphibian though, alot of the Warhammer books are actually quite good. I especially like the Slayer novels, they might not be great literature, but they're highly entertaining. I've only read one Magic the Gathering novel, Arena by William Forstchen and I highly recommend it.

And yeah, the Yuuzhan Vong story was simply not compelling.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Pretty sure that's one of many fan-made posters that have been circulating around.

I do love the lens flare touch. I hope JJ stays away from lens flare and bright/glossy colors, and instead sticks primarily with battle-worn gray when it comes to ships in the next movie.

So apparently Rachel Hurd-Wood has auditioned for an unnamed role in EPISODE VII (confirmed by her publicist)...and I find myself feeling VERY okay with the fact that she might play Jaina Solo (or whatever facsimile of Solo, or perhaps even Skywalker that JJ chooses to have as a lead protagonist in the film). She's a good actor in the roles I've seen her in, and she can look pretty badass (like she did in Solomon Kane).

Anyways. Cool if she gets it. I'm still REALLY of the mind that the new trilogy should have a female protagonist. We've had two trilogies focused on young men, it's time for a change. But yeah, I just mostly want to see Jaina realized as she's just. so. badass.

Alex Pettyfer also auditioned for something apparently (not confirmed)...and I'm meh about him.

But here's a pic of Hurd-Wood spoilered for size.

Spoiler

Also, I'll like to point out that Hamill should have a beard as older Luke Skywalker. Throughout the EU books he's not had one, but it would suit the actor.

I saw this news elsewhere. She was a redhead in the picture they used, and my first thought was Tenel Ka. But yeah, most likely she will be Jaina Solo. Either way I'm good. I don't mind if they divert from the plots of the EU, but I really would look forward to seeing the characters we've come to know from the books - the Solo kids, etc.

I think a few things might be already on their way to truth.

1. I doubt Jacen is going to be present in the films. There is just no need for him if they aren't doing the Caedus storyline...and since we've already had the "good guy walks down the dark path" tale in the prequels, methinks he's superfluous. But I could be wrong.

2. Best guess...we'll get the equivalent of Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker...cousins and main characters. That way we get the two parentage's, Leia and Han's kid...and Luke's kid (possibly with Mara Jade, or someone else) with two different personalities, raised by different styles.

Also, there is recent buzz that the Emperor will appear in some sort of Force Ghost equivalent of the Sith....and that possibly Obi-Wan would appear Force Ghostlike. I'm super jazzed about the latter, as I feel that McGregor could easily be aged to do the Alec Guinness Force Ghost role...and there is just something so inexorably JEDI about Obi-Wan....so his presence would only be a boon.

I'm trying to wonder at what the story they'll give us is. Are we going to be seeing another stab at the Sith as villains? Or will it walk a separate path for villainy? I certainly don't think this new series will be about a good person turning to the dark side and back...so there is going to have to be some other hook. If they go the Sith route, it will have to be a mass incursion story. Armies of Sith perhaps? As long as they scale it up they could do Sith...but it would have to be lots to be threatening when it's been 30 years and likely Luke has rebuilt the Jedi Order into something large enough to repel smaller forces. I'd love for Ep VII to end on a shot of the Jedi discovering a large Sith army on the march...that would be a sweet shot to end on.

Hmmmm.

EDIT: Someone over at the Force.net forums tipped me to an idea I'm okay with. What if Darth Plagueis [The Wise] (Palpatine's master, whom he murdered to become Sith Lord) shifted his consciousness (having been smart enough to assume Palpatine would eventually betray him) into another body (perhaps one of Palpatine's Naboo guards when he was Senator....as Palpatine DID tell Anakin that his master had been the only person he ever knew who could "cheat death") and simply stayed close and watched as Sidious seized power and destroyed the Republic...and then on the other side of the Emperor's death he's come back into power. The ultimate way to beat a Sith lord...outlive them. And thus a MUCH smarter Sith villain enters the fray as Plagueis starts a new Sith Order, and attempts to destroy the new fledgling Republic Luke and Co. began to build.

I like that idea. Especially beating Sidious by not even raising a finger.

This just in. It will be filmed entirely with cats, starring Colonel Meow as the villain.

So apparently one of the rather dependable guys who broke stories for Star Wars prequels is on record as having said that either today or tomorrow we will see a teaser trailer for Episode VII (possibly featuring Luke...probs just his voice as I don't think he's yet in full shape for role reprisal as he only started working out this past July) and that it will contain the title reveal and casting.

I'm not going to lie...that's exciting!

Not to do with Episode VII (but this can be the defacto STAR WARS thread can't it?)

Here is the official plot blurb for the first Disney-produced STAR WARS narrative, the new animated show REBELS.

Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendaryStar Warssaga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starshipGhost. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.

Sounds great! It will be really interesting to see new people thrown into the SW universe in such a way.

Funny, I thought the animation for CW was the best part.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

2D or 3D?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

There are no words to describe the beauty that is...

The Star Wars Holiday Special

I actually remember watching this at my cousin's house, way back in 1978.

Happy Life Day!

With the original first appearance of Boba Fett (in the animated bit)...and a Coked-out Carrie Fisher singing a song.

The linked recording is also fascinating to watch for the commercials. First, to note how few of them there were, relative to today. Second, to note that late 70s America was apparently really into pantyhose and General Motors. LOL.

RE: my earlier note of a teaser trailer...

Star Wars Official has now released the original teasers for both A NEW HOPE and EMPIRE over the course of about 2 weeks...my guess is that JEDI, TPM, ATOC, and ROTS teasers will follow...and then we'll see the teaser for VII the the final release probably in the next month sometime.
