Yeah, it saddens me deeply that the tiny minority of haters managed to make such a stink, the entire franchise is being damaged and perfectly good extra films are being scared out of production, and were so aggressive they made it seem like the majority opinion because no-one who liked the film even feels like they can say that any more.

If only the EU fanboys and people with oddly inconsistent images of Luke Skywalker didn't divide the fanbase, we could've had so much more fun! Now there are alleged "fans" of Star Wars gleefully "I told you so"-ing over the alleged failure of the third film and scrapping of other material?!

I mean, seriously, the fuck happened, guys?

Yep.

This horse being flogged ain't just dead, it's a goddamn stain in the gravel.

So glad the internet wasn't around to give me all these great insights during the first movies.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I've not directl ranted about TLJ since I was asked not to...and contrary to popular belief I don't really care if people liked it (I don't understand them...but I don't care)....I've just been reporting the scuttle about the franchise (good and bad) here...so I hope this isn't aimed at me.

I don't know about anybody else, but i didn't need the internet to make a decision about the movie, I just needed to watch it. My brother and i sat there stunned at the end because we both couldn't believe how bad it was.

More insider info from the main insider about this stuff.

It's funny, but the more I hear about the internal shenanigans going on, the more things that made absolutely no sense to me before from a business standpoint make much more sense: knowing things like the two Disney Parks people in charge of Galaxy's Edge (one of whom didn't know anything about Star Wars, and the other who HATED Lucas-era Star Wars), in collaboration with the previous head of the vaunted (now reportedly MUCH diminished; much to the chagrin of a cranky Pablo Hidalgo) Lucasfilm Story Group Kiri Hart's plans for using Star Wars as a sociopolitical vehicle for "message" (I mean, FFS Forces OF Destiny was essentially 'Woke Barbie' for Star Wars Female characters)...all combined to direct the franchise...not as it was and needed to be....but as they wanted it to be by changing it at fundamental levels. That KK even seemingly understood that Hart was (for example) damaging her legacy after the fact is telling. And that Iger really IS the reason KK was overruled and JJ was brought back for IX (something I'd heard whispers of, but never confirmation till now) because he'd learned really late about the behind the scenes changes that Hart, and the others had fostered away from the success of TFA, and how things weren't tickety boo.

It's also nice to know that at least the Disney heads knew that the drastic second-week drop-off in Box Office for TLJ (much steeper than normal) was not in any way "expected" or "normal" as so many media sites tried to claim while they ran damage control. Or that Resistance being 2 seasons only IS a sign that it's a failure, contrary to the talking point of it being planned that way.

Man, I'm just enjoying the implosion of a company (as it stands now anyways, not for all time I expect now that things are being fixed) due to the hubris of like a mere THREE singular individuals combined with the rushed rollout of everything to make their 4Billion back as fast as possible.

Anyways, Read away if it interests you.

Oh, and it sounds like Kevin Feige will now be CEO of Marvel Studios. Combine this with the recent news that he'd be involved in making a Star Wars film...I HIGHLY expect the next major news (probably not till after TROS comes out in December) about him will be that he will pull Lucasfilm under that same umbrella, and KK will exit her role (this stepping down will reportedly happen after TROS/ROTR-ride-Galaxy's Edge)

To me Rogue one is the best of the new star wars movies. Solo was ok. TLJ and TFA were both ok. I liked TFA better then TLJ but they were both way below Rogue One.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

There was a poll and editorial article over through CNET recently where they broke down that the prequels (at least on the face of them at the creative level; if not execution) are better than the Sequels and why...and the pro-Sequels internet lost its collective goddamned mind...LOL...up to and including an article at TheMarySue saying that not only was that not true, but that the Sequels are better than the OT.....at which point my brain new that shit to be HARDCORE "We Didn't Even Try" Clickbait and rolled on.

But it's funny how this has become such a big pop culture point of contention these days.

At any rate, I agree with your rankings...Rogue One is also above and beyond the competition the finest things Disney SW has managed to make (it also features what I consider to be the BEST battle sequence in the entire Saga; Battle of Scarif).

Also, I like to point out that Jim Butcher (Dresden Files) ranks the Star Wars Christmas Special above the last main saga SW film...which warms the cockles of my heart.

If we're doing rankings, mine would officially be:
1) ESB
2) TLJ
3) ROTJ
4) ANH
5) Rogue One
6) TFA
7) The Ewok Adventure
8) Solo
9) The second Ewok movie which I saw once as a kid and don't remember a single detail
10) TPM
11) Holiday Special
12) AotC
13) RotS
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I think Disney mismanaged the whole re-launch of Star Wars. They should have taken more time to plan out what they wanted to do, not rush to make a new movie. I've enjoyed the new movies, but don't really consider the story to be any good at all. They could've set it up in a much more interesting way, right now they seem to be making things up as they go along, and its not good... I'm hopeful for future series and materials now that they've had it for some time, but I think the ST will be seen as a muffed opportunity.

They should've had JJ do the entire ST, or let Rian Johnson be creative for the whole thing. Mixing "let's copy previous SW movies" with "let's change the formula" doesn't work. Either could've worked on their own, but now Disney just has a mess.

The “spin” on Twitter seems to be about the advance tickets causing Endgame style site crashes...but those reports are coming from “bought” freelance media types...everyone else seems to indicate that while advance tickets sales are busy, they are not unmanageable or crashing sites.

Watching the marketing and spin for this movie has been weird. Like a political thing now...Disgruntled VS Gruntled.

In the end it’s just a movie, and I’m more interested in The Mandalorian anyways.

I seriously didn’t see anything in there to make me go oh snap! Meh. Nice visuals though.

Had the exact same reaction. The last trailer was much better. That just kind of “was”

Yeah, meh covers it.

I agree. The only shot I found halfway compelling was the one of Kylo and Rey destroying whatever that is in that white room.

The trailer needed a holy shit moment...and there isn’t one.

Though I read the entire leaked plot on Reddit and it doesn’t sound like the movie has one either.

I heard they even removed a scene with force ghosts to “appease” the Chinese market who don’t like ghosts in movies...so tha sucks too.

You know, Apt often talks about trailers giving away too much, and I agree with him. But I'd like to make a separate point that movies don't need more than one trailer. Maybe a teaser, fine, but having so many full length trailers is getting waaaay out of hand.
