I though QB had one sister and recalls tormenting her at one stage when he lived in a city.
Or was that someone else.
I'm fair certain I recall him thinking that he had been a wild child, which really doesn't suit arathorn

I think its kind of believed that its one of his souls that might be Arathan. I don't think Quick= Arathan, but that's the way it has to be in order for that to work.

That was sarcasm. He never mentioned it.

Have to admit I thought you was bein fo' realz.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

I have been thinking that Arathan could possibly be one of QB's souls as well. I do not know why, just a feeling I got while reading FoD.

I dunno.
If QB is a regular mage, surely the son of an azathani would be the most powerful of the fleeing group and prime candidate to be the host.
No?
I need to reread the story scene to pick out the mages again but I'm struggling with putting arathan as QB, possibly an ancestor.

What about korya to be toppers grandmother, that was an assumption I jumped to quite easily.

I don't think the fleeing group is all his souls though right? Just the seven mages from the seven cities, including QB himself as one of them. Which was part of what made his 12 souls/warrens so surprising in MOI. Am I misremembering?
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

From Encyclopaedia Malazica:

Quote

  • Kebharla, she was more a scholar than a mage - ( MoI, p.356)

  • Set'alahd Crool, a Jhag half blood who'd once driven Dassem Ultor back half a dozen steps in furious counter attack, his sword shining with the blessing of some unknown ascendant.

  • Birith'erah, mage of the Serc warren who could pull storms down from the sky

2 further bodies (unnamed)

Arathan has some significant role in the series considering that FoD almost feels like his story and typical of a opening book of a trilogy, the part where the main character grows up.
He is son of two very powerful azathanai... maybe Triss considering that only Triss and Draconus have experimented with Chaos and considering that his mother left him probably to do something...
The third book ends with Shadow... (light+darkness = shadow). Also clearly Chaos/Elient represent the opposition to the "Order" the living world represents. It is possible Draconus and Triss set out into Chaos to figure how to protect the world

He clearly has a much nicer temperament compared to Spite and Envy who have significant roles in the series.
Either he is being setup as a tragic character, the loss of whom might spur Draconus to do some crazy things or he will continue to effect the whole series in some positive manner.

You're right. For some reason I remembered it as being one mage per city, but it was all 12 that went through Raraku.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

confusing the matter deeper. but i don't think it's impossible that whichever mage of the 12 had the andii soul would want to just surrender their soul to another. andii, as a group, are pessimistic and suicidal at worst, morbid and disturbed at best, so i don't see this choice as one that an andii wouldn't consider.

then again, i also like the idea of korya and arathan being the parents of adaephon delats original soul.

edit: to agree with nacht about FoD being Arathan's story more than anyone elses. it will be interesting to see if this impression continues or not, and just how central Arathan (and Korya) will be to the story of Kharkanas. will they be a kiska and leoman in SW? or will their story impact directly on Wise Kharkanas as the three realms of the tiste burst into existence?

Knew it was 11. First time right in the book forums, booyah!

Iirc, QB learns the secret of soul shifting from the first to drop, so I'm ruling him out as Arathan and of the named mages taken only Etra plays with darkness.

I'm pitching at ancestor, if Arathan and Korya get it on in Lightfall I'll be convinced :The Force:

Otherwise he could become twisted and evil, and we could see him in as a mage in the service of shiak. But surely Lloric would suss him out if that was an option.

I think its strange how much is known of Draconus' daughters and how little of his son. He must stay with Gothos for a long time. I suppose hehas too, if gothos folly becomes known in Wu it needs must be translated from old jaghut.

The aranthos on tayschren name is still bothering me, my head hurts. Considering where tay ends up, its not toofar of a stretch either, saying he had been prepared for for his end, prepared struck me as made ready for.
Bleghy head hurts

Didn't they already do the nasty-in-the-pastie? Arathan finished, wiped her back off and stared out of the window...Well, he stared out of the window...I usually do that after I finish.:p

How about this... ST calls QB a 'shapeshifting bastard' and it sounds like the azathanai can make themselves look however they want.

I personally guess that QB is son or grandchild of Arathan and Korya. Im just beginning re-read of TCG, so maybe I ill be able to add some arguments...and maybe not

So far, Korya is named Delath, she is mahybe, she plays with dolls made by funny powerful jaghut... But I dont believe she is QB in person. QB is still too human. And especially, soulshifting is one thing, change of gender...in complete all ways...well, it s something he can manage during centuries, it is something can slippery soulshifting bastard manage, but...he would be too powerful. Learning from times when gates were open? He would be completely different from QB we know from GotM...his memories of sister, some hints... he seems to me "younger"...but hey, he posess a lot of souls...still enigma...

I won't either. And I think I'm Fisher!

Its the only logical choice. Fisher is an epic bard that has been around forever. He is a master story teller. Who just so happened to write the most epic story ever? Uh huh. Gothos. Arathan is gonna spend all this time with gothos and not pic up the trade? Not to mention Fisher has some mad sword skills... so does arathan according to FoD. Fisher also has a history with spite and envy that we see in Orb, Sceptre, Throne. Yay for family reunions.

I am also on the Arathan = Fisher boat (Do you see what I did there). My quotefu is weak, but I do believe Fisher regularly quotes obscure fragments of Gothos Folly, and he is a BA swordsman in K'ruls bar. Further he lives forever and likes to collect stories like from Duiker. Someone who has these sorts of things bookmarked look em up!

Though, when Fisher meets Envy/Spite he plays some sheet music in TTH or some such. Ok that would be gross even living 300,000 years wouldn't make that ok.
