Tekkit server is now LIVE

I figured this deserves its own thread because it's really a different game.

You should be able to log into the normal MC server IP addres.

Under options in your tekkit launcher you should have the checkbox "always use recommended builds" selected and I find the game works best if you allocate 1.5 gig to it...but 1 gig is fine too as long as you don't have too high resolution on your texture pack.

Also, the tekkit launcher has full support for up to 1024bit texture packs. I use one called "sphax" myself because it is a massive improvement on the default but it doesn't try to go too realistic. I find there is no discernible difference between 64 bit and higher, really, so I wouldn't recommend going higher than 64 or 128bit at most. It just slows your client down unnecessarily and looks kinda stupid considering the block resolution is so coarse.

And I know there are a lot of fun things to do and a lot of truly epic things to blow up within tekkit. I'll be doing frequent backups for the first while as people get the hang of things, but please don't deliberately ruin others' fun by overloading nuclear reactors, setting nuke traps, etc... If restarting and restoring the server gets to be too much of a hassle I'll just stop doing it and nobody will have any fun.

NOTICE

==========================================
Top tier IndustrialCraft machines such as rotary macerators and singularity compressors DO NOT WORK and currently crash the server in a bad way. Please do not build or place these machines for the time being. Also please no world anchors (at least initially) and try to keep wireless transmitters to a minimum. And no sneaky world anchors. I know exactly how many are loaded and can find them easily. As we experiment and learn the capabilities of tekkit, and as the devs fix bugs, we might be able to relax those rules a bit. For now, they must stand

ALSO, when you log in, your inventory will look very different. It will be in "cheat mode" by default most likely. Tekkit is really not very fun at all if you cheat all the time, so I'd recommend hitting the options button within your inventory and selecting "recipe mode". This allows you to search the tekkit library for recipes, but will not add items to your inventory when you click on them.
==========================================

And again, link for the tekkit launcher download is found at: http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/

Please PM me or Messremb if you would like to be whitelisted or if you have lost the IP address. Please also PM if the game crashes. It is known to do so pretty regularly, and we'll do our best to keep it up.

Damn, appears I loaded in the incorrect white-list file.

Should be working now. Sorry bout that.

and if the plain IP doesn't work, try adding the port index :25565 to the end of the ip address, including the colon.

I was on for an hour or so last night too. Seems to be working much more crash free now with our ram upgrade. I`m interested to see what a large player load will do to it but for now all seems well.

Did diamonds become more rare? Because I can't find any and I really want to go to the nether.

Going to allocate some time this weekend to take a look. Did you guys start figure out how to use the same server file we were using, or is this a new one?

@Rhulad

Yes, diamonds are much more rare, but on my SP server and under our base we found lots without too much trouble. Fortunately there is an item called an energy condenser which enables you to exchange things with an EMC value for any other thing with an EMC value. You just need 1 of the item you want to create to use as a "pattern" and then you can basically make as many as you want out of the garbage items you don't need. There are many other ways to create what you need from "nothing". I'd suggest the tekkit wiki. It's pretty comprehensive.

At our place Mess built a sorting system to handle inflow from his quarries. Useful stuff goes to chests and stuff like dirt and gravel gets piped directly to the energy condenser so that it continually makes diamonds.

And then there's always the Industrialcraft option of creating industrial diamonds, which can be used interchangeably (for the most part) with real ones, or the other industrial craft option of auto-mining.

If you want, we can condense you some, but it's way more fun to figure out a way to create them yourself.

@Obdigore

There was no way to use the old file. Tekkit uses 1.2.5 minecraft and our world file had already been updated to 1.3.1.

The file is saved of course and all are welcome to it for continued LAN or singleplayer use. I plan to keep it and alternate between tekkit and Minecraft in the future as Mojang releases official updates. That way we can experience the new official content how it's meant to be experienced, but once we're bored of vanilla, we can always restart tekkit, which is full of crazy new stuff to do all the time.

seems to be working ok on my nice work computer (64bit)

I am going to "borrow" some things to survive and look for a place to settle

CF - restore my OP powers please, if the game will support it, I don't have time to wait for sunrise ;0

do we have any standing rules to follow re: resources etc? I found some oil on the surface, I think but was near someones house

All your crops are mine now

Does the geography mean anything in relation to whats around?

Anybody wants me to stay away from their places, let me know

I already got seeds, bread, cobbles, coal, probably from CFs central area

As long as you didn't steal em from the sorting facility it's probably ok.

I'd suggest you go far away. Resources aren't hard to come by but tekkit bases tend to sprawl a bit, and I had plans for the oil wells nearby.

Geography might mean something. i've heard deserts have bigger and better oil deposits, as do the oceans, but I've never tested that theory really.

Other than that the wiki is your best bet

EDIT

you are now opd

I don't know what the facility was, it was dark, I was starving, you know the drill. I will replace it if it matters. I have to survive long enough to get far away.

There is some oil next to a little village with crops that is near to you on edge of desert & green & snow

relax, I tell you

Yea I'll pop on this weekend, start flying (if you didn't remove my op powers) and fly for half an hour in a random direction I think. Should be far enough away :blink:

apparently mojang servers are down. Not sure the cause.

If you try to log in you will get an ioerror 503 message coming up. Our server is working, but it needs to communicate with the main Mojang servers to actually operate a session, so I'm afraid everybody will just have to wait a bit.

Usually these outages last a day at most, so no worries.

Here is the site where you can check server status if you wish:

http://help.mojang.com/

No doubt they are doing some testing for the halloween update set to come out at the end of the month.

I was able to connect at about 7:00 am (gmt -7) this morning, so it looks like they are back up. God damn creeper blew up my energy condenser, got the diamonds but lost the condenser.

Haha....it pays to build a perimeter fence early on for sure. Doesn't matter so much for the easily-dispatched spiders (which can climb walls of course), but keeping creepers out is a must when you start building anything more valuable than the tier 1 machines.

Yeah, I just forgot to shut the door like a noob. Could have been worse though, I had just made another condenser before the accident. I was going to make a blaze-rod unlimited emc factory with them but may not now cause it feels too much like cheating.

Is there an exploit with blaze rods then? I haven't heard of it.

I'm all for using mod mechanics to get unlimited everything, but if it's an obvious exploit I stay away from it.

If you put a blaze rod in a macerator you get five blaze powder, three of which will give you another blaze rod in an energy condenser. The remaining two can be used to condense whatever you want essentially giving you free emc.

that sounds more like a cross-mod bug than anything. Macerating is IC2 business and condensing is Equivalent Exchange business. From the point of view of EE, there's no means of creating more than 2 blaze powder per rod, so the EMC values are set up that way. Very possible that will be adjusted in future releases.

It's the same thing with bones and bonemeal. I think you are right about it being a cross mod bug, but I doubt that it will be fixed in a future release. Unless blaze rods and bones are removed from EE like ores are.
