Build 1 cruiser in the hex where my other cruiser is, please. Build 1 fighter in the Orion Homeworld.
I do not like my odds (and should have upgraded my space stations instead of fighters) but hey.

After STD takes his next action, I will upgrade 2x Improved Hull over the existing hulls on my Dreadnaughts.

So, D'rek's the only one who has yet to pass.

I'll resolve battles when I get home.

Incidentally, I played a 4 player game of Eclipse this weekend. My group perfer to dsitribute races at random, and I ended up with the green choice this time around. So, a game of Planta for me.

We never got any quantum grids, which really hurts the Planta who are seriously dependant on those extra discs to alleviate their mass of systems. In the end I came second, 4 points behind the Hegemony, who had steam rolled through the center and into Hydran space.

I tried to take the center from the hegemony early, but my ships were way too weak even with my tech superiority. Without those extra actions I simply did not have the ability to fight effectively against the Hegemony and had to bunker up with a focus on tech. Alas my production was too low to cover both attrition and Monoliths.

The last player, Descendants of Draco refused to attack the Hegemony and decided instead to bunker up as well, even though he ended up last, which was the obvious result from early on.

@Morgy: random allocation does seem like a good idea, particularly in a game with fewer than 6. I shall have to suggest it next time.

I had a three player game last night. Went with Eridani (nobody in our group had played with them before and I wanted to give them a spin) against a Planta and a Hydran Progress.

Planta managed to block me off from getting to him early, so I went after the Hydrans instead. In hindsight I think this might have been a mistake because the Hydrans were the only ones who had enough access to Planta space to take them down. On the other hand, the guy playing as Hydrans is quite a passive player as a general rule, so I wasn't confident that he would actually make a move (and furthermore he had left himself completely undefended). While I was doing that the Planta claimed the Galactic Centre and unfortunately I never had good enough ships to be able to displace them. Eventually ended up with an easy Planta victory.

One thing I noticed was that the Planta player did some pretty extreme economy modification over the course of the game. He grabbed some key techs early and then was able to use Grey planets and bankruptcy to move a lot of money cubes onto the science track. By the end of the game, he had filled up the top science track and had a +25/+3/+15 Money/Science/Materials economy. It was very impressive and allowed him to get around the crippling number of systems the Planta can end up with.

Playing as Eridani was interesting - it felt really easy because you never had to worry about running out of money, but I think I was perhaps too conservative with it. I could have had a few really big turns at the beginning, but I didn't have enough Ancients near by to make it worth it and I ended up rationing my money a little to tightly. It meant that by the time we got to the big battles I didn't have a tech advantage any more and the Planta were too strong.

I've never tried the Eridani myself. They look very dependant on the early game draw, but interesting all the same.

I would think though that they require the centre to be viable late game.

Oops, sorry! I'll pass too!

We probably won't be done this game until like April but seeing it start snowing over here today makes me think the next game should be the Christmas promo version where one person plays as santa claus :sofa:

Yeah! It was supposed to be tapper before it comes around to me and I pass. Well unless tapper does anything crazy I will still be passing next.

There's nothing I can upgrade anymore, apart from putting a plasma cannon on the hit point of my cruisers... which might be a good idea considering how many hits I need to inflict.... D'rek got me here, and barring a lot of luck (6 throws of 1 for her) I'm dead. I'll be conservative though. Will say this: I don't know why D'rek didn't go for the centre. It is a much safer place than trying to police her soon to be extremely large empire with effectively only 2 upgraded dreadnoughts.

Pass.

I don't think I can retreat, can I? The rule is you have to retreat to a system that (a) you control and (:sofa: has no enemy ships in it...there aren't any adjacent to that tile. If I can, then attempt a retreat to 1C. Otherwise, let the battle play out.

AFAIK, the rules say that if damage is big enough to kill something, it has to be allocated there first and only then on another target. If it kills nothing, it goes to the biggest first - if it could kill both, it goes on the biggest first, too.

I think that more or less means I have to assign it to the fighter?

No, that's only for ancients. When deciding what Ancients fire at, you follow those rules. A player can however chose to target whichever ship he pleases.

Since I need 5 to destroy the dreadnought... let's kill the fighter and pray.
