Was the god ripped to pieces by the FA or just the Forkrul? Because after reading FOD my understanding was that there was a fairly significant difference between the two. In that the priests seem to have outlived the others by a bigish margin, as well as being far more dangerous.

On a slightly different topic, does anyone think that in TtH, Seerdomin is playing the chess varient using Syntara's figure? it says on about pg 40 that he has a white queen. This suggests to my mind that she must eventually have a fairly significant role in the war/ conflict despite being less than able in combat. Still Hish Tula heads a faction as well according to the TtH flash backs and I thought she would probably fall in with Anomander and co going by Forge. Then again, it sounds like the brothers were allied the whole way through and took everyone for a ride pretending they were going to betray each other, so there isn't anything to say that most/ all of the Andii leaders were united but to all appearances weren't.

I've wondered if Grizzin Farl is the FA god that was torn to pieces for his power (TCG). Maybe that's why his corporeal body possibly no longer exists. He was the husband of Kilmandaros, after all (FoD). Maybe the FA worshipped him as a father/god figure, then tore him to pieces when he wouldn't back their play.

very interesting idea. nobody has ever wondered too much about that god's identity as far as i can recall... it very well could be him. from FoD, it seems like killy is already leaving them behind. maybe their father denying them was too much to take.

i've thought that maybe the god is rynthan, the name beak says is the FA name for the god of justice. the more i think about it, the more i think that grizzin farl, with his whole business of protecting that which cannot be protected, and never actually making it to a battle, could wind up as a god of justice, who is then betrayed by his worshippers. still a lot of unknowns here, but i like the suggestion of a link between the FA and GF.

my theoryabout the way the forulkan became the forkrul assail is that they either all became assail, or the assail killed anyone who didn't believe their dogma about justice. i don't see there being a division between forulkan and forkrul assail much longer (in FoD times), since the loss of a war that they were so close to winning could easily cause a transformation of their society. and as we can see in DoD and tCG, the assail can certainly impose their will on a civilization.

I want to know why Gallan refers to Fisher Kel Tath in the prelude to FoD? How old is Fisher and exactly what is he other than a Bard.

Fisher is quite possibly as ascendant of poetry/music. We know he's very long lived from Toll the Hounds, where (as I recall) he more or less admits to being the author of every Fisher work (which stretches across hundreds if not thousands of years). Exactly how old he is, however, we don't know.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

Tho that doesn't mean Fisher was around back in FoD... notwithstanding his immortality he appears to be a human ascendent, not an Azathanii.

The fact that the book opens with Gallan addressing Fisher only means that the exchange took place at a later time, and given how such things work, Gallan could have died already.

We don't know when Gallan dies, do we? I don't think it's mentioned outright in TTH. Because he has a poem about Darujhistan that might be a GotM-ism, but I don't see how one could re-jigger that. Unless it's Fisher writing as Gallan for some reason. But otherwise it seems that Blind Gallan (funny how he apparently does the same thing to himself as the painter) leads some of the final refugees from the KG realm (post-K'rul?) and therefore had a presence on Wu-as-mortal-world until fairly recently, and maybe not even "until".

What I do want more of is those one-line minimalist poems that we know was a Tiste craze for a while and we apparently get a few of, as Gallan quotes peppered throughout by characters (in a story conveniently told by Gallan himself).
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The "blind" desciptor might just be a poetic addition I suppose - "I have eyes, and yet I recognise I see the truth of nothing" etc - just the sort of thing I'd fancy Gallan to do!

Have to say, I'd assumed Korya was Korlat, had completely forgotten about her being Sandalath's daughter somehow, so the thread;s been very useful in reminding me.

Does anyone feel like pontificating on those new "warrens" from DoD?
I feel like in ever really understood anything that was going on there. The 1st time I read it, I just assumed Kruls warrens became "active" on Lether, the 2nd time I think I edged closer to understanding, but not much.
So if there's a thread that breaks it down best and you want to kinky link.. Or if you just want to expound on Malazan arcana..

Potato salad?
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

I only just started reading it, but on page 14 had a sudden thought: Could Arathan be Ruthan Gudd? Transfer the nervous nail biting to his always raking his fingers through his beard. The "she" that he is constantly referring to in the Malaz books would be his mother. Probably too soon to tell but that was my epiphany!

LMAO! I didn't read the entire thread and just noticed others had the same idea :)

I'm guessing "Draconus" is just a vestige of the earliest stages of this world, when mother dark really might have been the mother of darkness and Draconus might have been a lot more T'iamy and that coupling of void and chaotic potential resulted in creation..
Days and corresponding creations:
1. Mules2. Mules Deux3. Mules: getting the hooves just so4. Boles5. Time Traveling Jaghut who can fool the Boles into not asking questions.6. Just gonna work on this mule's tail for a few hours and then watch the NBA All Star Game for a bit7. Rest
No problem with Fiddler.. It seems like a believable dumb nickname origin story amongst young men if one decided to strap a fiddle to his back.
Throatslitter and Deadsmell bugged me for about 5 seconds until I realized what delightful subversions of Descriptive Fantasy Names they were.
It's really too bad we didnt meet a sarcastic pair of k'ell hunters named Sword Arms 32468986432136 and Sword Arms 3497654741179

This ipad REALLY hates formatting. And I love that it's underlining "ipad" in red. Never change, iPad that recognizes the spelling with the uppercase P, never change.

You're like Kruppe if he snorted his whole bottle of adderral.
