2 notes... WATER WEED, the second to most recent GN/collection, is fun, if not as interesting/epic as the previous volumes. It's very cop procedural with a few magic notes, as opposed to the more magically inclined stories in previous GNs. I have the most recent, ACTION AT A DISTANCE up for a read shortly.

FALSE VALUE, the next Peter Grant novel, is for pre-order sale on audible.com for $14. That's not much of a savings from the usual $15 credit price, but hey, there it is. If you're gonna get it anyways, save the dollar.

This was good. Not nearly as revealing about Nightingale's WW2 history was i wanted it to be, but still good. As usual, Molly steals every scene she's in and Aaronovich should just stop fucking about and give her her own LS already.

He wasn't outright fired at the end of Lies Sleeping, but it's made clear he might be and even if he isn't it'll probably be a while that he's out and may leave of his own accord.

The 'uncertain' line in the blurb doesn't make it seem like the situation's cleared up.

Obdi was wondering whether he missed Peter's split from the police and Folly at the end of LIES SLEEPING.
Various posts said 'no' and ''split not final based on blurb'.
My point was that Bev pregnant, revealed at the end of LIES, is likely what makes Peter split and take a job less likely to involve magic balls of fire flying at his head.
We don't know whether he actually quit, took a leave of absence, etc.

That seemed, and i think Peter even said, that it was pro forma because magic aside the mere fact of a suspect being killed in those circumstances required a ful investigation.


...which might mean he took the tech job on while suspended pending the outcome of the investigation and Bev's pregnancy has nothing to do with it, now that i thunk about it.

I might have misread the blurb too - here it is
Peter Grant is facing fatherhood, and an uncertain future, with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with emigre Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand new London start up - the Serious Cybernetics Company.

I guess that means he could still be employed by, but under suspension for investigation, by the Police. My assumption is that the 'uncertain future' and 'takes a job with' would mean he's no longer with the police force, but I guess he could just be on a very long suspension while they investigate.

Ahh well, I guess we'll find out in 21 days.

He did say that they had to, but it's definitely not just pro forma. It may be one of those situations where the language screams out to a Brit what to not-Brits just seems vague worry, but he's legit concerned for his career.

He and Bev also do talk about her potentially wanting him to quit coz of the baby, but it's in the context of 'would it be so bad if you did have to leave'.

That said, I'd wager that you're right and he's taking this job in the meantime while waiting for the results, hence the 'uncertain future' bit.
