Tattersail's cards could have seen this a mile away. No obelisk in this reading. Memories of Ice content, and more of my stupidity.

So, I'm rereading Memories of Ice right now. For those of you who haven't read it, do not continue, as it is full of spoilers for this book, and minor spoilers for others as well, probably. And yes, as per tradition, this is a stupid thread. Why would you expect anything else, knowing me?
As those who have read Gardens of the Moon know, Nightchill was killed in the assault on Moon's Spawn, torn apart by demons and such. The fact that Nightchill is also the Elder Goddess known as the Sister of Cold Nights is actually only incidental to this thread. In any case, she was torn apart, and her companion Bellurdan then sewed her limbs back together and kept her body in a sack until he traveled out to the Rhivi Plain to bury her. At this point, he encountered Tattersail, who Tayschrenn wanted intercepted. They were at the time within the influence of Tellann, I think due to Tool's presence with the Adjunct elsewhere on the plain. This burned both of them, and the body of Nightchill to a lesser extent, to a crisp, but at the last moment, Tattersail soul-shifted to Nightchill's body. Later, this apparition stumbled into Kruppe's dream, and Tattersail's soul was transferred again (along with the remnants of Nightchill's) to a newborn Rhivi girl named Silverfox, a flesh and blood bonecaster and all that good stuff.
ANYWAY, that brings us up to Memories of Ice, where Silverfox has already aged to the point of looking like a ten year old girl, and the end of the book (which I haven't finished rereading, but somewhat recall), she is pretty much an adult woman. Early on in the book, she expresses interest at meeting up with Captain Ganoes Paran, who was Tattersail's lover. However, despite the fact that by the end of the book Silverfox is of an age, or very close to an age where resuming her romance with Paran would not be gross/creepy, nothing really comes of it. The next time we see Paran, which I believe is in The Bonehunters, he is apparently single, and eventually we learn that apparently nothing came of his reunion with Tattersail/Silverfox.
Why should that be? Especially given how attached Ganoes was to Tattersail in Gardens of the Moon, and given that it seemed evident that Silverfox, via Tattersail's soul, seemed to harbor fondness for him.
Well, as we know, Silverfox is not just Tattersail, but also Nightchill. And the elder goddess never met Captain Ganoes Paran in her previous life, she was dead before he even arrived at Pale. As well, she was not single before she died, having been with Bellurdan for many, many years prior.
And, in addition to all the emotional ties from that... let us remember that Bellurdan was a Theloman Toblakai (or some other variety of Theloman... in any case... a very large fellow).
Yes, I am saying exactly what it looks like I'm saying. Remember how popular Ublala Pung was with the ladies in Midnight Tides. Bellurdan undoubtedly possessed an attribute to which Ganoes Paran, despite being a cool dude, could not hope to measure up to.
While Tattersail's soul perhaps liked the idea of resuming things eventually with the captain, Nightchill on the other hand had been used to Bellurdan's big Theloman phallus. After years of that, even in a different body, perhaps she balked at coupling with a mere mortal human, expecting herself to be unable to avoid the comparison to her previous lover's glory piece.
Clearly, this is the reason that things didn't work out.

You know, personally I never understood the Ublala thing. I think there is a point where we all must take a second look and ask "You want to put WHAT WHERE?!?" I would be much more interested in the potential for 12 souls worth of sexual knowledge/experience than I would some Toblakai schlong.
With that said, I think the issue was more on Paran's side. He clearly had an issue with Tattersail becoming a child, and if I am not mistaken, he spurned her attentions. I'm sure Nightchill would have appreciated Paran's youthful "energy" in the bedroom.

Not always, it's true. Within reason a more skilled lover is likely preferable to a more well-endowed one who is inattentive and clumsy.
However, as stated, Nightchill and Bellurdan were together for a long time, and Bellurdan seemed to be quite devoted to her, given his emotional devastation at her death. I'd guess that he was very attentive to her needs, and knew exactly what she liked. Experience counts, I would think.

True enough, though if I recall correctly, by the end of the book, Silverfox is no longer a child.
I don't think that Bellurdan lacked for energy, however, during his and Nightchill's long time together.
It just seems that after spending years with Bellurdan, in Nightchill's eyes, Ganoes may have been... unimpressive.

For Nightchill, it may have taken Ganoes' forearm to measure up to Bellurdan, is what you're saying?

True, I do suppose that there are some things that Paran could do that Bellurdan couldn't, in that regard.

I can't give you page by page reference to this, but you're leaving Bellurdan out of the Soul-Shifting. He was taken as well... 3 Souls were then reborn into Silverfox... So maybe Bellurdan (albeit mostly inactive as an influence over Silverfox during most things but not all) is the reason it didn't work out... I mean, he IS a guy that clearly enjoyed a Woman... So perhaps he just couldn't suffer the indignity of being a part of an unwanted 4-some.

Maybe, but I leave Bellurdan out mostly because he was so distant within Silverfox as to be almost absent entirely beyond Nightchill's memory, going by what the book says.
Also, remember, this one of my threads, so you probably shouldn't treat it that seriously.
