Okay, about 250 pages down and I'm still enjoying everything about the book!

One would think that FoD answers a lot of nagging questions we've been pondering for years, right? NO!!! Freak that he is, SE doesn't want to make it too easy for us! Hence, as things stand, FoD raises a panoply of questions that are often thought-provoking...
I haven't perceived any difference in style and tone, but it does feel that SE writes with a tighter focus. That said, the plot is as epic and convoluted as anything in TMBotF.
Too early to tell, but perusing the dramatis personae, there seems to be a glaring timeline error in FoD. Can't say for sure, but I did check the Malazan wiki to see if I was wrong, and I'm not. Will have to wait and see, as this might be addressed later on in the book...
A few bones to whet your appetites:
The POV protagonists are a disparate group of men and women, which makes for a page-turning narrative. Reading FoD is a different experience from TMBotF, for we know how it will all end. A bit like the second Star Wars trilogy, we're sort of along for the ride to discover just how Anakin will turn to the Dark Side and become Darth Vader. Hence, even though we know who the principal players will be when the shit goes down, it is fascinating to follow what transpires at the end of the era during which the Tiste were one people.
As is usually SE's wont, the pace is a bit slow at the beginning. Time will tell if the proverbial shit will hit the fan in the last book of FoD. The novel is split into 4 books, by the way.
Good stuff so far!
