News this week. They are still a go for September (I sure hope that holds). And they are supposed to have something to show that will replace what they were preparing for E3.

Meaningless fluff. A release date can be postponed any time until the developer announces the game has gone gold.

Edit: more interesting was the announcement that there won't be a next generation version of Cyberpunk on launch day. Making it a bit more likely people will buy old gen versions.

I'm an optimist, to a fault. So I love fluff like that. I'll be counting the days until Sept. like a kid counts down the last hours of the last day of school before summer break.

I really want to see the presentation they are working on, hopefully that will be coming soon (around what traditionally would have been E3 by the sounds of it). And whooboy, it they throw in the DLC deetz with it; I think my head will explode, because the DLC for Witcher III was the bees knees.

CDPR are an unusual companies in several respects. Their reputation is hinged on integrity and fairness towards the players and also a belief in the long-term viability of their projects: Witcher 1 and 2 were both rough around the edges until they got "enhanced editions" a year after release, and Witcher 3 took several years of word-of-mouth to become the all-conquering sales juggernaut and critical darling it's now become. CDPR are less interested in Day One sales than other companies because of that.

Sony delayed Last of Us II because they couldn't guarantee a proper Day One launch of the scale they wanted to guarantee the return they wanted for first week sales, probably influenced by how the pandemic has seen retailers across the world completely disregard the Final Fantasy VII Remake release lock and just throw it out whenever. Naughty Dog have admitted that Sony could release the game on schedule, no problem, but they won't because of the practicalities of hitting the dates. CDPR don't care about that as much, they'd be happy to just get the game out there and if that means the normal Day One sales are scattered over three weeks instead, who cares? It's still going to be one of the biggest games of the year (if not THE biggest, being multiplatform which the other two candidates are not, especially if Last of Us II falls back to 2021).

This latest delay seems to have even been down to a decision to not actively kill their staff with months of crunch, but extend the last cycle of polish across a more reasonable timeframe (a result of their experience with Witcher 3, where they crunched heavily and lost a large chunk of the team after release). They could have hit the original date (this week, sigh) if they'd gone with the crunch, so that means the work that's remaining to be done (mostly QA and bug fixes) can more easily be done from home.

I wouldn't rule out a further delay maybe for technical reasons, but I think CDPR can get it done on time without too many problems.

Don't know if you've got a better source then what I read but story I heard is that CDPR have been crunching for months if not a year to reach first the April date and now the September date.

As positive a consumer reputation CDPR have built for themselves, they're notorious for treating their studios like a sweatshop. If it wasn't for the fact that I have little moral integrity I would boycott CDPR but their games are so good!

CDPR releases buggy games and then fixes them over time. I played Witcher III at launch and one of the frustrating things were the bugs, and the weekly updates that had to be installed to fix them. I remember that routine was pretty regular for at least a month. I anticipate Cyberpunk 2077 will be similar.

They have talked about this at length in different places, especially after the working practices was the subject of a book (Blood, Sweat & Pixels by Jason Schreier, which is a great read). They noted they had a great team with The Witcher 3 but they burned too many staff out and too many people quit after it was done, taking all that expertise and experience with them. Some they coaxed back later to work on CP77 but others they lost permanently. They don't want to go through that again, which is why they throttled back on the crunch on CP77.

It might turn out in after-the-fact interviews that they're full of crap and they crunched anyway, but that seems to be the case now. I know Schreier has kept his ear to the ground on CP77 and hasn't reported anything like the pains they had on The Witcher 3.

Images leaked for the Xbox One X bundle. Looks good enough to make we want to buy an Xbox One X, but I will have to resist and wait until the next gen Xbox comes out.

CDPR teased that there is going to be something they reveal next month sometime. A comprehensive walk-through of the character creator would probably need to be streamed from pornhub. Posted Image

They've got something planned for June 11th I believe. September is not far away now.

Info dump came out about the various factions (damn there are a lot of them). If these are sides you can join, looking over the blurbs, I think I might throw in with the Voodoo Boys on my first go around (need to know more for it to be a definite first choice though). That Voodoo Boys description really scratches an itch for me. But damn, the descriptions on some of the other groups are making me salivate too. I think this will definitely be a title where you have a number of concurrent playthroughs happening.

Voodoo boys definitely sounds like it could be classic cyberpunk faction. Tyger Claws also appeal to me. I want to be a cyber samurai.

Unless the fall is packed I don't think I'll be able to wait with playing Cyberpunk till the next gen version arrives.

Booooo! But it will spread things out more, yeah? Or will it scrunch things up? dunno. September is usually the busiest holiday month, yeah? With November second busiest? dunno. Maybe it doesn't really make that much of a difference.

I believe October and November are usually the busiest video game months of the fall. It probably changes year to year.

With every company seemingly keeping their fall line up close to the west and no release dates it's hard to guess what's planned.

I'd expect at least a few companies to try and get that double dip from releasing a game before the new generation launches.

I'm sure more than a few companies are happy Cyberpunk got pushed though.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they announce another delay. Which could harmful to the point that they find themselves in a damage control situation. A delay is not out of the ordinary, but this is the third one now, yeah? Can't be good for confidence.

I don't care about delays as long as the developer is transparent. It's when they go quiet, won't give previews and stealth launch a game you need to worry. Look at The Last of Us 2 that game got pushed a lot as well.

There's going to be a Cyberpunk event next week. That'll build up more than enough hype for three video games.

I am rather pleased its been postponed. Makes it easier to hold off on buying until I get a PS5.
