Got a free copy of Anthem by Ayan Rand on Kindle.

Which reminded me I've been wanting to read Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead for years. Looking then up I see they're both big bricks.

Anyone read them? Besides the political aspect what did you think of them?

They're dominated by caricatures that preach extreme libertarian positions, take advantage of collective efforts, and the storylines are often terrible. Rand was a crappy writer who managed to hit the right zeitgeist to get a devoted fandom along envious white teenagers who grew into Chicago School economists and GOP political figures.

You can read the books, but they're pretty terrible and aren't going to be as good a use of your time as reading a Warhammer 40k book.

That being said, if you've read Rand, Illuminatus! by Robert Anton Wilson gets even funnier as a biting satire of it (and many other things).

Surprised someone like Rand has so much support with GOP types what with her rejection of religion and her view that initiation of force is immoral...

I'll add Robert Anton Wilson as an eventual follow up

Yeah, several of us read it a couple years back. Most of us liked it, though it does have one member that ended up hating it (looking at you Maark, lol). Overall, it's a fun rpglit adventure with an interesting band theme running throughout it.

Read it, enjoyed it... very easy and fun read though it does get wrapped up a bit too quickly for my liking. I will read the sequel...

What's the best Janny Wurts book/trilogy? I've got 3 Audible credits and I'd like to check her out as I've heard good things.

Looking at what Audible has for a selection, you're likely best off getting the Empire trilogy that was cowritten between her and Fiest. I read her Whitestorm trilogy like 15 years ago, but I don't remember it particularly well.

The Master of Whitestorm was a one-off.

You're probably thinking of the Cycle of Fire trilogy (Stormwarden, Keeper of the Keys, Shadowfane).

But yeah, the Empire trilogy with Feist is great.

Yeah, I was mixing up Stormwarden and The Master of Whitestorm specifically.

Do I need to know anything about the Riftwar Saga? Audible is telling me that it was book 1 of the Empire Trilogy and book 5 of Riftwar or something!
