I guess Ser Rodrick just stuffed up, but still you would have thought that he would have been alittle more weary. I guess I'm just thinking too much. My head hurts Posted Image

A Song of Ice and Fire is hands down the greatest fantasy series out there, even surpassing the Lord of the Rings. Best character? The Hound, Sandor Clegane. He BETTER get is own perspective in the next book. Tyrion kicks ass too, as does Arya. So is the Greatjon, who is still alive I think...... What characters deserve a good crotchpunch and more? Gregor Clegane and Roose Bolton!!

b/c Martin is hardly fantasy...

Riiiight, because dragons, the living dead, sorccery and prophetic dreams are every day occurances. Posted Image

Just out of curiousity... what exactly constitutes as "fantasy" to you?

@Falco

I care about Jordan's characters too. In the regard that I despise almost every single one except Mat and Rand and want them all to die horrible deaths.Posted Image

Seriously tho, Jordan has managed to make most of his character into complete idiots in teh later books. The evolution of them during the first half of the series was tremendous, but progression has, seeminlgy, ground to a halt with the character becoming whinier and bitchier with every turn of the Wheel.

To each his own, I guess.Posted Image
For me, in aSoS, I was genuinely afraid for Jon every chapter after the Red Wedding (after which, when I read it at 1am, I couldn't stop reading until about 6am)and was convinced he was dead meat. :/
And I was overjoyed when Dany didn't sell her dragon and when Arya got on the ship to Braavos.

Conversely, with CoT I just plodded along not caring at all about anyone, except Mat, just getting pissed that nothing was happening.

I always think, present company excluded of course, that there's something unpleasant lurking in people who avoid drinking, gambling, table talk and pretty women

Actually, there are two new POV's. GRRM has revealed that Cersei is one of them, while the second is still a mystery. The leading theory right now is that it is either Brienne, The Hound, or Asha Greyjoy. My money is on Asha.

By the way, I'm new here. This is a great board.

For the ordinary people it must be very confusing though, only way to keep track of the time is ti counting the days...
The whole "year concept" must be almost pointless. So they must have a totaly diffrent view of time than us.

Now when I came to think about it isn't it like that on some of the other planets in our solar system? Think I heard it somewhere...

Hey Pale, what's the writing like in AotK? It probably doesn't get mentioned much, but the prose itself is one of the things I like best about it. Is it as good as in the previous books?

The biggiest thing people had against RJ for selling his prolougues though was that he was making you buy something twice. Martin is doing the exact same thing. Giving you something extra along with it does not change that fact.

Personally I have nothing against selling prologues but I do have the a proplem with the double standard.

CaladanBrood: I don't know. People do survive injuries like that sometimes. However Bran didn't come out free of harm, as you will see or have seen already.

Probably don't read further back in this thread cause of spoilers, since there is a lot of shock in this series you don't want to wreck yourself the experience of it happening to you. If you have questions you can send me a private message through the board or at my email on my bio thing. I'll make sure to not give you any spoilers.

Emma - would have to agree with US getting VERY poor covers. I think they take a good cover and destroy it on purpose (David Brin, Iain M Bainks, Terry Pratchett are all victime of this as well!)

One good thing about Oz mainly getting UK versions is the art.

@ Brood - If you think names are bad, you should try Steven Brust in one of his Vlad Taltos novels - Each chapter title is a part of a list made to the Main characters laundry man... now that is unusual!

Who also likes a song of fire and ice?
Actually I can better change the question into: who doesn't like a song of fire and ice..

I haven't met anyone who didn't like this series. I actually consider them as a little bit better then the Malazan book of the fallen (but not much). Hope that Martin finishes his fourth book soon, but the same goes for Erikson. Luckily Erikson writes a lot faster than Martin.

Posted ImageGood news indeed Ben, I will be watching for that one. Btw, was it just me or does Dunk become Ser Duncan the Tall, Kingsguard?
Also, which Aegon does Egg become? I think I knew this once.

I think the latest best guess is late summer early fall for the fourth book in aSoIaF - A Feast for Crows.
