I cannot believe that no one has mentioned Gesler and Stormy. Their intro was fantastic. The part where Gesler mouths off to Coltaine and gets an ascendant-powered knuckle sandwich to his tellan-fired golden dome was spectacular.

I also really liked Kulp. I still miss Kulp. Hell of a way to die.

A slew of cool characters for me. I think I liked the tandem of Icarium and Mappo. I thought Erikson did an excellent job portraying the compassion between the two. Along with that the character Icarium facinated me, I found myself hoping to read more of his background, advice, thoughts on situations, etc. I also liked reading Fiddler, Kalam and Coltaine as well. Coltaines ending was well done, very suprising and heartbreaking too.

There are too many wonderful characters in DG.
First time I read the book, I found Duiker the worst characters. Some days ago finished re-reading DG and Duiker is now one of my favourite.
Gesler and Stormy, Mappo and Icarium, Iskaral Pust, Coltaine, Kulp, Kalam, Fiddler (of course), Apsalar, the Jaghut ghost.

Just finished DG for the first time and I have to say that my mind is blown. This was the best piece of literature I've ever read. The way Erikson draws you in I became emotionally attached to every character to the point that I was actually shaken when Duiker and Coltaine were killed. The things Duiker said and thought were some of the most philisophical things I've ever read, it really made me think. He was my favourite character for sure. The way Erikson wrote it I could actually feel Mappo's pain regarding Icarium. What a fantastic book.

DG is fantastic, still get the chills when the end comes. Favorite is hard to pick but I think the Mappo and Icarium relationship makes the pair so compelling to read. Baudin needs a mention as well. His willingness to sacrifice himself when he could easily have left when Felisin pushed him away makes him a great character.

My favorite scene was undoubtedly Coltaine's crucifixion, followed by Kalam and Pearl fighting off the pirates on the Ragstopper. But my favorite characters would have to be Mappo and Icarium. I found their relationship heartbreaking, and they were both so noble.

My favourite has to be Mallick Rel... I mean, the whole way through DG I was thinking "Are these horrible Wickans/Marines gonna get away with this?"... and then ole' Mallick, with an adorable twinkle in his eye, is able to save the day just in the nick of time... I wept with joy when that foul, twisted maniac Coltaine got what was coming to him!

P.S. Special mention has to go to Kamist Reloe for heroically holding back those crows so that they wouldn't peck out Coltaine's eyes... talk about honourable!

Coltaine for obvious reasons and Mappo Runt because every time he thought he was closer to losing his friend my heart broke just a little bit.

I would have to say Mappo. I felt so bad for him, he has such a difficult role. I think I would have done the same thing as him. I wouldn't be able to give up my friend no matter what they did, even if they wanted me to.

I agree with you completely on both of these. Duiker and Heboric Light Touch. Behind them I also liked Mappo Runt.

This book alone probably a close run tie between Duiker and Coltaine. However Fiddler should also get a nod as he's my favourite character in the overall series.
