Let's be clear.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is dead. There is no world in which they chance that guy being able to come home and telling his story...the minute it was clear that he was innocent of any reason to be deported, the Trump admin contacted El Salvador's dictator and had him killed inside. I bet this happened days ago.

Trump and Bukele have a deal in place to disappear citizens. That prison is not a prison, it's a death/extermination campo.

American citizens are being sent there without due process. And Miller just got on the news and says any vocal anti-American's will be treated similarly...

Fascism is here for you lot. Like properly here. He IS IGNORING A 9-0 SCOTUS ruling....

Where are all your 2nd Amendment people who don't want the govt to overreach? Like....what...

We’re scared.

100%. I would be as well. Hell, I'm in a different country and I'm scared of what this means for us if we elect the wrong person who might get ideas.

I get the fear, I'm just baffled how fast this all fell apart. Your whole country's supposedly sacrosanct rules, laws, and constitution are just rags now and it's only been like 3 months.

This is 50+ years in the makings. The "deregulation" and Contra stuff Reagan did, the breaking up of worker unions, Newt Gingrich rising to power and trashing legislative norms, Bush v Gore in the Supreme Court, growing judicial unwieldiness despite less people committing crimes, emboldened police, McConnell's run to destroy Democratic political powers, and Trump's first reign plus the shift rightward of all the health and wellness scammers.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

And other countries don’t want us. I’m “too old” and “too poor” to qualify. These changes could honestly kill me with my health problems.

It also sounds like about 75% of the 850+ people sent to CECOT are innocent of any illegal activity, and I would expect whatever order Trump and Bukele made to off Garcia, was expanded to all of them. That one guy who is a hairdresser? He's very likely dead as well.

The retributive power to punish is something this crowd is extremely interested in expanding and preserving against any perceived diminishment, even if it's flat out wrong, misused, unconstitutional, and shoddily implemented.

It's very police-centered in a way that is not "to protect and serve". It's also a shakedown tactic.

Now why do you think they are dead? Not that I don’t believe you but I haven’t seen any articles to that regard.

Because this Administration cannot under any circumstances allow someone who was sent there (without due process, kidnapped by ICE and whisked onto a plane) to come home and tell any stories...remember this is a place no one has ever been released from EVER, it has 8 pavilions, with many cell blocks meant to hold 60-70ppl that appear to overflow with 100-120ppl per (two toilets), steel beds in high rows like shelving, no mattresses, or any other anything. They are crammed together like chickens at a USA chicken farm. Satellite images appear to show a slaughter area outside (massive merlot-coloured stain on the concrete). No one who has actually been inside (other than the few press ops showing us the photos we've already seen) has ever been out to tell any tales. It is, for all intents and purposes, a place people are sent to to die, be it by the fighting with other inmates (the temperature of those overstuffed cells would be enough to breakdown any social order that exists) or by the prison itself...This is a country where the current leader is essentially a dictator.

If Garcia was allowed to come home and speak to anyone, he would ignite the powder keg that is the current USA...whatever is holding you all back from revolting? Someone would light that fuse and all hell would break loose. They can't and likely won't allow that. The only other option is like that guy who was imprisoned in North Korea and the US demanded him home and when he got here, he was a vegetable and died 6 days later due to trauma that occurred in that NK prison.

He's dead. I would be very surprised if he is alive, and I would be even more surprised if he was brought home and allowed to speak.

There's a reason that SCOTUS would not actually enforce it's 9-0 ruling, and kicked it down to the lower courts again to "define effectuate his return"...because they KNOW that you are in a constitutional crisis, and no one wants to be responsible for lighting that wick. They probably hope that the citizens will do it, so they can enact martial law...cancel elections ect.

I think he's alive at current juncture. And the odd thing about him coming back is that I don't think it would light any metaphorical powder kegs of significance.

The administration's perceived problem with unwinding the shipping overseas of a person is that El Salvador/Bukele is going to charge more money for this guy and future people because the deal changed.

I mean I obviously hope you're right and I'm wrong...but this administration seems to want this violence to start and they keep trying to push all the buttons that will allow the insurrection Act to be invoked and martial law to reign. And I can't fathom them bringing him home. Trump claims he's alive, but without proof of life, that's just more BS to me.

I'd be worried about his political enemies too, people like Hillary, Obama, Biden are all going to be on his shitlist and once the mask is all the way off as a dictatorship, he's going be looking for vengeance.

QT I think you're giving Americans (other than Trump) too much credit (as usual!).

Incarcerating innocent people as supposed "collateral damage" in the battle against gang violence and going from that to mass incarceration to terrorize the population into submission is a large part of Bukele's "success story". I was unaware of this until I read this article:

Quote

A particularly gruesome display of gang violence [...] led Bukele to declare a "state of exception," empowering police to arrest anyone suspected of gang affiliation without telling them why, informing them of their rights, or allowing them access to a lawyer. El Salvador is now the country with the highest incarceration rate in the world. It has also gone from being one of the world's most dangerous places to having the same homicide rate as Canada. [...]

[...] By Bukele's own admission, some of the 100,000 Salvadorans who have ended up in prison are innocent; his government writes them off as "collateral damage" or a "margin of error." Meanwhile, hundreds have died in custody, per Amnesty International, some as a result of "beatings, torture, and lack of proper medical care."

[...] Soon, police came for the families of gang members, for people whose tattoos looked similar to those of gang members, for people with any tattoos. An officer in San Salvador told me he stood by as his colleague arrested the boyfriend of a woman the colleague was interested in.

[...] Union leaders and journalists who criticized Bukele have also been imprisoned.

The constitution sets limits not just for the state of exception, but also for presidential terms. Bukele ignored those too. He ran for reelection last year in a country where consecutive presidential terms are not allowed.
