Roe v. Wade is going down.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

That's so stupid.

This guy insulted every minority he could find. He lied hundreds of times. He approves waterboarding. He is a sexist. He has no fucking clue about international politics.

Why? Why? Why?

Just because he promised he would make America great again?

yes. it's called populism.

You have a system in place where the media, peer pressure, even education to an extent- all push you to live your life in a rats' race, always consuming, buying things on credit, accumulating debt, and then working like a dog to keep up with the debt- working so much you don't actually enjoy the things you bought, because you're too busy working to keep them a, and you're stressing about losing your job because then you'd lose the things you don't have time to enjoy. In all this, you're too busy to actually question or give a damn what politics means. you vote, usually the way your parents do, but you rarely take the time to educate yourself, and the whole thing is meaningless.
eventually, at some point, this life starts to frustrate you. You feel trapped in a cycle, and there's no way out. People on TV say your life's getting better, but you're not feeling it. *add in all the stuff about racism, mysogyny, etc, as it applies to your own region/culture*

You become angry. You can't articulate why you are angry- but you are. Life is not getting better, it's getting worse.

Then along comes A Populist- who is "not part of the system". He doesn't speak in fancy college-talk, and he's telling YOU he will make everyone's life better.

And so you vote. As do a TON of people who feel the same way.

I'm calling this phenomenon "The Identity Crisis of the West"

This is an amazing post. In so many ways...

For the record, I'm not supporting or endorsing populists, and I'm seeing this thing as another step towards a global disaster.

But the system does need an overhaul. Bernie might've started it. Clinton would've kept the status quo of slow degradation/stagnation and in 4 years there'd be a chance to try again.
Trump is a straight up great leap backwards and then sideways into mutual destruction.

We had this phenomen already in the 20s and 30s. Here we got Hitler. People should learn from our shitty history. No need to try everything by yourself.

History tends to be cyclical. And we rarely learn.

They declared Iowa (on Google) for Trump 244: 209

Clinton leading in Nevada (6 votes), Pennsylvania (20) and Maine (4)

Unless she regains lead in some other states, this it done.

Eh, it's pretty hard to emigrate. It's a long process. It'll take me a while even with a professional degree.

Not surprised. Canada is somewhat sane. Somewhat.

I'm gonna say it's about 1/3 Clinton-hate, 1/3 the populist economic con, and 1/3 the -isms, in particular a repudiation of POC movements like Black Lives Matter. There's overlap in things like anti-immigrant & refugee rhetoric. It's all the worst humanity has to offer.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

For Law you'd need to do equivalency exams, then the Bar and articling. Job market in our profession's not the greatest.

Just like here, but a better chance than most. A man can dream, Ment. A man can dream.

Worry, you can be my gay husband if I make it. Bring that legal weed.
