^^^Pretty much. Again, policy-wise Trump isn't an outlier, he is the distillation of what Republicans have been since at least Nixon. There are no good Republicans. I mean, Ronald Reagan was an amoral, braindead moron who conned Americans with 'trickle down economics' and sold weapons to right wing Iranian terrorists to fund right wing Central Americans in order to subvert people's movements by, among other things, slaughtering nuns.
As far as the parties go, the generational shift thing is happening and it looks to be a pretty steep cliff (esp. from Gen Y onward), but it's slower/later than a lot of people expected because (among other things) white boomers are 1) way worse than anyone expected (well, fellow white people at least -- nobody else is that surprised) & 2) aren't dying soon enough. I'm not saying that would mean the end of systemic racism, sexism, classism, grifting, or other fundamentals of colonialism that sustain conservatism & pervade my country. Only that the death of the Republican Party would be a positive step. In a Necessary But Not Sufficient kind of way. And if our species still exists by then.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
