Is ICE basically TSA gone wild? Seems like the government has a way of just fuelling assholes into pr disasasters.

Nah. The TSA is a useless measure meant to re-assure the public that flights are safe.

ICE is that bully you knew in high school that couldn't get into college, but refused to learn to stop bullying, so he became a law enforcement officer. Take that starting point and multiply it by 10 years of watching nothing but fox news and being given all manor of both extreme powers and a lack of any kind of oversight, and you see what ICE has become.

I'm not on the disband ICE train.

I'm on the fucking disband ICE and start charging people for crimes against humanity train. 'I was following orders' doesn't work for Nazis, it doesn't work for ICE.

Speaking of abolishing ICE, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just trounced -- by double digits -- Representative-since-1999 Joe Crowley in NY and I feel like crying and grinning at the same time. I don't expect a huge lefty wave this cycle or anything, but I love seeing establishment has-beens seeing who's knocking at their door. And I especially appreciate people who genuinely care getting involved in politics, and people who care and vote taking interest in primaries.

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

That didn't take long to turn out exactly how most people said it would.

For what it's worth the rational talk I've heard so far suggests that this isn't necessarily indicative of weapons manufacture. Just work on their nuclear power facility.

Let's not repeat 2003.

This is the last 2 days at the SCOTUS:

1. Voter suppression/gerrymandering upheld.

2. Muslim travel ban declared legal.

3. Organized labor Unions dealt a massive blow.

All 5-4 decisions with Gorsuch being the deciding vote.

Did I miss any? This is bad.

Except the one definitely allows the other. The only difference between nuclear fuel and nuclear weapon fission able material is the percentage of enrichment.

My countries nuclear facility after apartheid ended is used for creating medical isotopes and research. However having once had the bomb we can get another if we want to spend the money and suffer the sanctions. North Korea already has both of the latter.

Re: a case out of California, anti-abortion "crisis pregnancy centers" are allowed to essentially commit fraud, including not disclosing that they have no medical license. Apparently being required to disclose whether or not you're an actual medical facility is a breech of free speech.

Can I guess that one was 5-4 with Gorsuch as the deciding vote too?

Ugh.

And now Kennedy is retiring....giving Trump a SECOND seat to appoint someone to on SCOTUS.

When it rains, it pours.

Can the Dems "McDonnell-Rule" them to keep the seat empty for 2 years? Asking for a friend.

Oh I'm sure they could but how likely is it? There will be loads of memes about it but the republicans will just steamroller through and do it regardless.

Nah, Dems don't have a majority in the Senate, and McConnell has said he's gonna try to fast track it to before the November election (my paraphrase, he didn't use the words "fast track" but it's what he means). It would take a Republican or two to stymie it, and let me be clear: every single Republican, including so-called moderates like McCain, Jeff Flake, Murkowski, etc. agree 100% with what Trump is doing, even if they sometimes make hay of not liking him personally. In other words, it's not gonna happen.

Edited cuz I was speaking too hastily, sorry. Take the above only as a matter of votes, not procedural options.
But this looks like the future:https://www.vox.com/...t-supreme-court

2nd Judge !.... Sweet. Thought this would happen with a Trump win.

The leader of the pack seems to be :

“Brett Michael Kavanaugh (born February 12, 1965) is a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He was Staff Secretary in the Executive Office of the President of the United States under President George W. Bush.

Kavanaugh himself was nominated to the D.C. Appeals Court by Bush in 2003. His confirmation hearings were contentious and stalled for three years over charges of partisanship. Kavanaugh was ultimately confirmed in May 2006 after a series of negotiations between Democratic and Republican Senators.”

I wonder if Trump will get a third If another retires in the next 2-6 years ...?

Reading that Amy Coney Barrett would be a solid choice too.

I'm not even going to read your idiocy, Nic. The celebration says everything I need to judge.

I hope all those poor white assholes who hate people who aren't taking their jobs, and still are losing them despite fuckface's promises, enjoy their just fruits.

Lots of civil liberties now under threat.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Donald Trump isn't going to nominate a judge who opposes the Citizens United ruling, but they are going to oppose Roe vs. Wade. That's all you really need to know about any of their so-called civil libertarian priorities.

Those are all core law school classes other than federal court litigation.

That isn't rocket science. For fucks sake that is 1L and 2L beginning information.

Civ Pro is hardly problematic for a Supreme Court Justice. They only hear cases they want.
Constitutional Law is........... Supreme Court case law. That's it.
Statutory Interpretation is called "Legislation" in law school. It's grammar rules with lots of nuances. Not hard.
Evidence is very nuanced. I'll give you that it is difficult to determine outcomes, but only because the rules are ever changing.
Fed and Fed Lit are specialties that I'll admit I'm not as familiar with other than general Fed Law.

The Congress has a job to make sure a qualified candidate is selected, and I seriously doubt assfuckmcghee is going to do a thorough selection process.
