So, if this stuff is legit, regardless of the DoJ pulling it (for whatever reason), why is every person named here not in a cell pending trial.

No matter dem, rep, rich, poor, whoever. Like what the actual fuck

Venezuela might actually be closing El Helicoide.

Whatever else happens, actually getting all those prisoners released is a big step.

So we knew the "Internet of things" was spying on us for corporate data collection, use and sale, but this goes a little bit further.

ICE is watching you.

People are claiming Ring doorbells are being used to help ICE
Protesters across the United States are urging people to “smash up” their Ring doorbell cameras for one very frightening reason.

OH I SEE he doesn't want to annex Canada because the continent, he wants it because the CONTINENCE.

Yes this is a joke about him shitting himself in a live press conference. Yes that is extremely funny to me.

So there's something brewing with the CIA and Tulsi Gabbard. I'm not entirely sure but there's a whistleblower and it seems a lot of effort is being made to keep it under wraps somehow, but the speculation I've seen is that she's been selling US secrets to someone... People seem to think it could be fairly major but I don't understand enough to grasp what exactly is happening...

Here's a collection of screenshots about it (linked it seems to the 2024 elections)

She grew up in a fucked up cult, and it's been an apparently open secret for while that she's a Russian asset.

Incredibly dumb editorial in the New York Times today on how to "save the midterms" from Trump: pass a bill that would allow federal officials to be sued for financial damages for subverting the election.

https://www.nytimes....ns-midterms.htm

First of all, they'd need a 2/3rds majority in the Senate to get it past Trump's veto, so it's almost certainly not going to happen.

But even if it did... the editorial acknowledges that Trump would still legally be able to pardon his cronies for crimes committed in subverting the election. At best the threat of lawsuits seems like a minor deterrence. Better than nothing I guess, but almost certainly far from enough on its own.

Would lawsuits have stopped Putin?

The people in your country still operating like there is a rule of law is wild. This man and his whole admin have been ignoring, laws, bills, subpoenas, and all sundry "rules" for the entire time...no law or bill is going to stop them.

I repeat ad nauseam, until someone in your country ENFORCES laws, you have none and are not a lawful country.

Can we stop doing 'make the deadly virus more transmissible' research?

But how will we be able to utilise it to wipe out entire populations in far away lands if we stop doing that? /S

I just wanted to point out that this research is seldom to make the virus deadlier for its own sake. That research exists as part of biological weapons programs absolutely. We know Ebola can be made air borne because that research was done for a weapon. We also need research to counter this research. We cant put the genie back in the bottle now.

However viruses may be purposefully exposed to other species to study how they, in the real world, can jump species and how that often leads to deadlier viruses. Viruses that can transmit easier and become deadlier. Its also one way to make a vaccine. We expose a virus to the wrong host conditions enough times until it adapts to it. That virus can be given to a human whose immune system will crush it because its now maladapted to human infectivity but the immune system will now still be trained against the real thing. No one outside of the military has ever thought let me make the deadliest virus I can so I can publish a paper.

This research if done with proper oversite is safe. A biosafety level 4 lab is double sealed. The inner chamber has negative pressure so leaks suck air in not out. Leaving the lab requires a chemical bath in corrosives. Animal tissue is incinerated inside the containment. Any biological samples are irradiated before leaving. If the Wuhan lab leak theory is real it implies either systematic failure of multiple safe guards or willful negligence/malfeasance by a staff member.

Hey you know how when someone asks "how is Trump racist?" and you have to offer up a bunch of obvious and clear examples because those people asking are either dumb or asking in bad faith?

Well, we have a brand new example as Trump has posted an AI video of the Obamas as monkeys...

I say for the 40billionth time, that if Obama or even Biden did a FRACTION of this stuff, the Republicans would NEVER, EVER shut up about it. But somehow the current POTUS can post VEHEMENTLY racist garbage to his social media and it's not going to upset the apple cart one bit.

I can't.

Boiling Frog theory at work. Except Trump's lies started with the water already at about 50 deg C and the frog (his supporters) going "Whoooo, love this, it's so relaxing!"

Fwiw for now instead of doubling down he's backtracking and trying to blame it on a staffer:

Trump Frantically Blames Staffer for His Racist Obama Video - The Daily Beast

... but once he's America's Putin?... his dream of putting the Obamas in a cage may come to fruition.

So the house voted to overturn the Canada tariffs

Purely symbolic as Trumpalump can veto it (over powered presidential powers much??)

But 6 reps crossed for the vote, is this a sign of hope or a flash in the pan?

I am banned from Reddit for saying I can’t wait till he dies. Implies trump but not stated. Someone please explain how that is a threat lol.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I’m just very happy that the DOJ continues to embarrass itself by failing to indict congressmen for telling the troops to ignore illegal orders. A federal judge has also halted Pete Hegseths revenge pending a trial to determine if the punishment is intended to chill speech. The outcome is already clear.

A Grand Jury Will Indict a Ham Sandwich? Not in the Trump Era.

Something extraordinary is happening in federal courthouses across America: Grand juries are exercising their power to reject criminal charges in high-profile cases. [...]

[...] in recent months, we've seen grand juries asserting themselves as meaningful checks on prosecutorial overreach, particularly in cases stemming from Mr. Trump[...]

This is how grand juries were meant to work. The Supreme Court chief justice Earl Warren once described grand juries as "a primary security to the innocent against hasty, malicious and oppressive persecution."

[...] grand jurors — everyday Americans performing a civic duty — are recognizing the administration's penchant for prosecutorial overreach and refusing to participate in it. They're acting as the conscience of the community, rejecting efforts to suppress political dissent.

Opinion | A Grand Jury Will Indict a Ham Sandwich? Not in the Trump Era. - The New York Times

... but suppose Trump sends in his goons to torture or murder them if they refuse to comply, then preemptively pardons the perpetrators (but keeps the pardons sealed for if/when their identities are revealed)? So long as the crimes are commited on federal property (including federal courthouses) they're federal crimes, so Trump can pardon anyone for anything inside them. They're like a "safe space" for Trump-maga criminality.
