Yip. I know it’s riel 34 of the internet that eventually we accuse someone of being a nazi but I had a conversation with someone the other day where I said this has been enlightening for me. As a child studying the Holocaust and they taught it to us extensively I always wondered excavtly how so many people bought into nazism and how many people who though they might not have bought in completely allowed it to happen. They can teach you about the treaty of Versailles and corbels but it’s missing something real. Now I know because I’m watching it live. A person I know back in South Africa has been politicized to the point that she posts about Qanon. No real skin in the game and they got to her.
After hitler died lots of people defended Germany and said most people were not Nazis. I think that missed the the point. After 1994, I was 8 but I have never met a racist who would tell me they thought apartheid was a good idea in all the years since.
The simple truth is that a lot of republican voters believe in separating children from their parents, that America should be white, homophobic etc. the rest would never say those things out loud but are happy if it happens. If the power shifts far enough they will act like it was all a bad dream and that they never voted for a man who did all these things but he got 70 million votes. No hiding that.

Rule 34 is that there's porn of everything, even Trump and Pelosi.

Time to get nostalgic about the good old /b/. Rule 42 is pretty close.
Edit: You're thinking about Godwin's Law or something similar by the way.

I'm so sick and tired of seeing news coverage of this fat fuck always playing golf.
Do you guys know if Biden plays golf? I sure hope the hell not.

I imagine all politicians play golf in the US. It's like how all business people are into bike riding or extreme sport here in Denmark.

The way the "old boy networks" operate is via country clubs centered on golf + dinners and by going to "the right colleges".
So if you want to get bumps up the ladder in the corporate world or the government world, you gotta play golf and it helps to play well enough to be included with the people who play well (the rich ones who can spend lots of time golfing). People usually go out in a foursome and talk deals during the non swinging times.
It's very common in the lawyering world, the business people world, and so on. I don't play golf regularly, but I have played a little and see why people do it beyond simply enjoying the game.
Trump isn't playing alone most times - he's got three players with him that he's schmoozing and they're schmoozing him (more of this than the former). So he's doing stuff while on the course, but it's not actual President work - it's putting $ in his pockets work.

The only things preventing actual genocide at this point is the multilevel lack of competence in the presidential administration. McConnell is competent enough and willing enough to fund it all.
That's how scary this shit is - the big reasons why they can't rip more migrant kids from their families and beat the shit out of black and brown people is that they aren't competent enough to do it.
Kyle Rittenhouse is getting paid to do endorsements of stuff like coffee bc he went out and murdered protestors.
There is a real appetite for this among us as an American society. This isn't just one side vs another.

The Rittenhouse thing, and the fact that people donated enough money for him to have a multi-million dollar defence fund and put up a two million dollar bond to walk free brought me to despair. There is no longer any attempt at hiding their true purpose. They want to kill 'colored people' and god damn anyone stopping them.

I get the despair, but they have been doing this for years. Remember George Zimmerman? They made that scumbag a hero and crowdfunded his defense. And they loved the fact that he was Latino, which they think means he couldn't possibly be racist against black people! (And Rittenhouse just killed white people who were protesting on behalf of black people.)

Speaking of the attempted coup, the Trump campaign just got excoriated in PA federal court today and lawtwitter is going nuts about it because the judge called Rudy's arguments a "Frankenstein's monster", among other things. It's a really, really harsh ruling, with prejudice meaning they can't refile. The Trump campaign is hailing this as a win in their strategy to get this quickly before SCOTUS (lol) and they have tried to dismiss the judge as an Obama appointee, but he's a conservative and member of the uberconservative Federalist Society (where Justice Alito recently gave that painful speech that you might recall). He was only appointed by Obama as part of a deal with Republican PA senator Pat Toomey because of an old Senate tradition where home-state senators can blackball any judicial nominee from their own state. In order to get past the "blue slip" blackball for another nominee, Obama had to agree to appoint Toomey's guy, and that's the guy who delivered this ruling today. So after the ruling, Toomey finally came out and declared that Biden is President-Elect.

I have seen parts of the judgement. Honestly, it is what I would except reading from a judge in such a ridiculous case and I'm happy that even Republican judges can rule correctly on this issue.
If the upper courts stay within their sphere of authority (meaning they don't go deciding that the trial judge's facts were incorrect), I can't see how any appeal could overturn this decision.

I just hate that were are being forced to treat this literal clownshow as serious business. Everyone knew that Trump was hoping there would be a situation like 2000, really close calls that could be litigated up to a friendly SCOTUS, but this is not close, and there are half a dozen states he's trying to pick off because he can only afford to lose one of them. He has no chance in hell of pulling this off on any kind of legal basis, but we just have to sit here and wait for Rudy Giuliani's corpse to finish farting.

So Biden has announced some key position appointments in his administration. For you government wonks who follow closely the functioning aspects of the presidency, what do you think of these recent announcements? I recognize Janet Yellen and John Kerry. I mean any one of the Biden posts is going to hop over the low bar Trump set by his appointments, but just curious to know what you guys think so far.

I'm very much hoping that Biden listens to the wise people and doesn't hire Rahm Emanuel. The guy is toxic and left Chicago with a lot of bad feelings. There's not much he brings to the table as a person who can push a legislative agenda or be anyone other than one of the 3 Emanuel asshole brothers.
