Can I ask Americans what might be a silly question?

Why are they talking about voter fraud in places like PA, AZ, MI, WI and whatnot...correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those currently Republican-managed States, with elections being administered by the Republicans in power there?

Am I missing something? Why would Republican states be "allowing" Democrats to cheat?

Why do you think people who work themselves into emotional responses can be reasoned with?

People don't WANT to accept, or CANT accept, that they lost, so they'll grab onto the thing that emotionally makes them feel good. Literally the reason Trump won and almost won again. He tells these people that their feelings of hate and anger are justified.

That's crazy. It just seems so batshit from the outside to assume that currently Republican states are hiding Democratic cheating.

Better question, how do you beat that? How do you deprogram such people?

Best I can give you is a resounding shrug.

This may very well continue, in a huge amount, until the generations of people who taught us 'don't believe everything you see on TV', but believe every single meme their racist friends send them, die off.

How do you deprogram a cult of 30-40 million people? I don't have an answer, and certainly not one that is doable in 4 years without any control over congress.

A bounty on fraud evidence? Well I expected stupid to happen no matter who won so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

re: do Republicans really think that Republicans are allowing Democrats to cheat: Georgia's two beleaguered incumbent senate candidates, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, have called on the Republican Secretary of State in GA to resign. He basically told them to sod off because he knows that the claims of fraud are bullshit and he's not going to let them challenge his own integrity without a fight. It's really stupid; the senators in question know that if they don't go with the Trump narrative that he'll mean-tweet about them and they'll lose. Trump doesn't give a shit because, though he is going to try his damndest to stay in office, deep down he knows he is unlikely to succeed and therefore losing two senators in GA wouldn't be even a tiny thorn in his side.

They're all so captured, it's insane. Lindsey Graham just won 6 more years and he was one of the first to jump on the sycophancy bandwagon.

Best comment I have seen.

The republicans seem happy to accept the house and senate seats they won. The votes are on the same ballots

Monbiot is probably the most left-leaning columnist at the Guardian and at times goes a little too Marxist for my liking, but he makes some interesting observations about the state of US politics here, I think:

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I have previously been known to make a few comments here and there, describing the "crazies" interviewed by Daily Show correspondents as the "lowest hanging fruit".

With the last few days events following the election, I am beginning to slowly suspect tgat maybe it is not just a few low hanging fruit, but in fact several low hanging branches.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I can't read articles by George Monbiot. They scare me too much because I always kind of think he's right.

That Zeynep Tufekci Atlantic article on competent autocrats Monbiot refers to is ... chilling.

Caught some highlights of Trump making his first public appearance since, what was it, a week now? He attended a Veterans Day memorial. Does anyone think he looks fatter? He must be an emotional eater, cause he looks fatter to me.

When is the election certified? That happens sometime in early December, right? Asking because when that happens Trump is supposed to announce that he will run in 2024.

Deadlines vary from state to state, but the electoral college votes on December 13.

Ah, okay. I wonder if Trump will try to outdo his golden escalator ride. That's his thing, to always do things biggly, bigger and yuge.

Is there actually any fear of faithless electors changing the outcome? I’d imagine they’d be assassinated if they actually tried something like that

Not much, no. We've never had more than one at a time. The parties choose real loyalists to serve as electors, and considering the political landscape right now, any faithless electors are more likely to be Republicans than Democrats.
