The shade Morn, who is he? Is he Rake? Nothing in his actions or personality made me think of him. However the black women (Mother Dark?) seemed to hint it was him. Yusek also hinted her conversation with Dassem that he could not be killed. So foreshadowing?

Morn is most likely Draconus as he talks about being away for a long time (in Dragnipur) and being committed elsewhere, i.e kolanese/the wasteland

Yeah, I don't think it was Rake, didn't have any of the same sense about him. Course, that could've been the difference between ICE and SE. But I'd have to say, inclined to think not Rake unless evidence to the contrary comes along.

Draconus is a candidate, but I think my preferred candidate would be Endest Silann. No real evidence for it being him, just a preference.

Envy sees her father in Darujisthan, described similarily to "Morn". The choice of name is no coincidence either I guess.

That's just it though, I can't remember any connection between Draconus and Morn (the place), or Morn (the event), or even linguistically -- Draconus was the 'Suzerain of Night,' not the coming of Light.

The way I read it is that he calls himself Morn as in being in mourning rather than Morn the place/or event.

I took Morn to be as in mourning, when MD(maybe?) asked Orchid how he seemed, Orchid said "sad" so I take this as a Draconus tribute to Rake

Hmm. I'm not sure I buy it, as a) 'morn' sounds nothing like 'mourn', so the linguistic connection isn't there, and I don't think ICE would make that kind of tortured connection/mistake either.

He was referred to as a shade though. Which to me implies the ghost of someone who is dead which is not Draconus. That said come to think he was described as having completely black eyes which means it could not be Rake whose eyes were always described as being colored.

Pig Iron nailed it. It's definitely Draconus. We learned he can 'shade' himself in RoTCG.

He also has very black hair which effectively rules out Rake. I go Draconus as hes prominent throughout the book but without actually being involved

It's obviously Draconus. Hints that he's been away but always queried everyone who arrived there (Dargnipur), plus other hints.

When Lady Envy meets a man in Durajhistan who matches Morn's description she says father and faints. Her father being Draconus.

It's pretty clear from his hints that Morn in Draconus. As for the choice of name, I think Mother Dark's surprise at it hints at something: May be he is trying to tell her that he has accepted her "marriage" with Light. Thus, Morn as in morning.

The link between Morn and Draconus actually comes through Kallor. In one of the first prologues of the Malazan series we see Kallor being cursed by K'rul, Draconus and Sister of Cold Nights for basically ruining almost a whole land - before he in turn curses them which leads to Draconus being imprisoned in his own sword.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that ruined place entitled Morn by the three elders? That was the linkage I got.

Its Jacruuku where Kallor was in that scene.
You are mixing up the events of the Memopries of Ice prologue from earlier on, when Kilvea put the Jaghut kids in the Rent at Morn.

Hmmm - could be, right enough. It's been a while since I read the passage, and I know there's already a Morn on Genebackis - but I thought the Elders also named that place something like Morn after putting it in a warren to heal??

ah yeah, the reference to that puts into context a bit, makes more sense now.

but wasn't Morn also where the age of the Tyrant ended... .something about a rock with writing on it stating something like this is jarring in my memory.
