As long as they make it more like San Andreas and less like 4, we'll be set. After I beat 4 there was literally nothing to do, and there were no fun cheats. The only parts of SA that sucked was the story was a hit or miss for people (many didn't like the whole "street" thing), and missions were a horror to replay if you failed. I remember it taking 10 minutes to get to a mission, only to get most of the way through it and die, then have to go all the way to the starting point again, and again, and again. Shouldn't have to worry about that, though, as 4 had automatic restart.

Oh, and I do hope they keep the health bar. Regenerating health definitely has its place in games, but not in GTA, in my opinion.

I actually preffered the early street missions and found it got ridiculous with the James Woods jetpack sections near the end of the game. I found the gaining territory and increasing reputation was the more realistic part and suited more 'The Wire' style of gangsta than the 'Goodfellas/Scarface' style of organised crime weve seen in San Andreas and GTA3.

GTA4 got very old very quickly

GTA4 was really disappointing, shiny, and very much the Modern Warfare generation's GTA.

I have happy memories of GTA3 - the last one I played. I liked the way the missions could be handled in any number of ways. Chase a mobster through the streets and try to catch him before he gets home? Or go straight to his house, park a bus across his driveway gate, and throw grenades at him while he tries to get in?

It was a lot of fun, apart from all the repeated speech from people walking around, and the shit 'jumping' control. Oh, and falling in water that resulted in instant death. Don't know about the later ones, but hopefully by 5 they've managed to recapture the fun of the earlier games.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I liked 3 and the games that came after Vice CIty and San Andreas. GTA 4 on the other hand, while an ambitious game story telling wise, was just not very fun. I completed the game more out of a sense of duty than any real interest in the world. I thought there was a huge disconnect between the character you saw in the cutscenes and the character who was doing all the insane stuff in every mission. Here's a guy full of remorse and hatred over what was done to him and what he had to do during the war in Bosnia, a guy who is only doing what he is doing out of some bitter need for closure and a drive to some how make a new life for himself. Yet in every mission you act like a fucking maniac, killing cops, civilians and god knows who else that comes in your way just so that you can earn a thousand dollars. In one scene you're shown as having a dislike for wife beaters and people who mistreat women, the next you're kidnapping a mobsters daughter and beating her to get a picture. What the fuck. I wanted to like Nico but he honestly just came off as a sick fuck whom I really did not care whether lived or died in the end. By the end of the game I had come to the conclusion that I must have become too mature to like these kinds of games anymore, but after playing Saints Row 2 and loving it to bits, I realised it was GTA 4 that was something wrong with and not the genre.

I hope they put a more coherent plot and character development in 5 and go back to their roots with the crazy missions and fun gameplay.

And if they put a fucking friend meter in the game again I will go nuts.

never played GTA 4 i didnt like what i heard and saw about it,

i hope CJ is playable as i seriously need to represent and shoot me some 'Ballers' in the head lol......disturbing / funny as that sounds they were my only 'legitimate' targets.

i never could understand the whole prostitute murdering thing' or the randoml killing of the general nobodys.....although 'accidents do happen :) ,

hope i can still do my hair, get new clothes, alter my physique, go flying, mountain racing, oh and i want to bunny hop over coming traffic on a push bike again.........they were the days lol

plus i 100 % completed it, no easy feat.....it took me something like 18 months of often painfull dedication.....but it was worth it.

Is it just going to be set in LA or is it going to be like San Andreas with more than one city?

I do hope that they put at least some work in a PC port that has non-infuriating controls. Also, if you make a mission take 20 minutes, either let us save or make checkpoints, ffs!

An unconfirmed "leak" from a guy who works at a game magazine who is doing a feature in December has revealed that the game revolves around one city that is around 4 times the size of Liberty city from GTA 4 and around this city, just like San Andreas, there is a HUGE map area consisting of long beaches, country side, oil fields, dense forests like out of Red Dead Redemption, mountains, what ever. And it is all populated with NPCs and animals.

Yeah, that was infuriating about SA, too, with the absurdly long missions with no checkpoints.

New gameplay trailer has been released.



This looks absolutely amazing. I have been telling myself I should wait and buy the game when it comes out on the PS4 but I just don't know if I have the willpower.

The amount of content that they showed in this video is ridiculous.

Dozens of minigame activities.
A rich diversity of urban and rural landscapes.
All kinds of modes of transportation.
Customisable mission setups.
Multiple POVs.
Smooth and streamlined combat and gaming mechanics.
A complex and deep economy.
Character progression and level stats.
MOTHERFUCKING MULTIPLAYER.

Not at all. With all due respect for Jackovasaurus I think that it is mostly juveniles that act like monsters in GTA games. I tend to unintentionally, when given the choice, to roleplay a good guy in a bad situation. When I play these kinds of open world sandboxes I mostly behave myself. I try to avoid pedestrians when driving, I avoid the cops because they are the good guys and I don't think I have ever even used the hookers in a GTA game more than once to see if there was an achievement.

That was part of why I disliked GTA4 so much. There was just so much unavoidable violence. When I play GTA5 I will surely be going for finesse during my heists rather than the "loud and dumb" option. Part of why I liked Sleeping Dogs so much was because it actually penalised you for hurting civilians and doing unnecesarry property damage.
