Is it just me or has metal been going downhill ever since Crest of a Knave??

Currently listening to Eluveitie's Origins album. Getting ready to see them co-headline with Epica at The Forum in London in a couple of weeks

Death Jovi are opening that tour.

Yeah! I'm not familiar with their music, any recommendations?

This is currently my jam... 19 minutes of prog brilliance! Also, those more into their power metal will probably like it too as the singers vocals are similar to the conventional power metal style...

Holographic Universe and Pitch Black Progress are essential melodeath. They started experimenting from Dark Matter Dimensions onward: that stuff is worth a listen but albums 2 and 3 are the ones I tend to go back to. Although that said their current album (The Singularity part I: Neohumanity) is excellent as well.

^^ Listened to Holographic Universe last night, liked it a lot. Really looking forward to The Forum gig as I think I'll enjoy all three bands. Actually looking forward to seeing Eluveitie as much as if not more than Epica - didn't think that would be the case a couple of weeks ago!

So was driving yesterday and in order to pump myself up i decided to listen to some good old maiden. I then tried to sing along, which failed spectacularly. Im by no means an expert in singning (10khours is many years away) but jesus christ it wasn't until that moment i'd grasped just how good bruce dickinson actually is. It's humbling.

Recent discovery for me - Ancient Bards. I would suggest if you like stuff like Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot etc.

Haha funny, summoning is said to be really similar to a band named Caladan Brood (Think they have been discussed before on the forum). They make malazan themed black metal. I do like Caladan Brood, but never could really get into Summoning. Agalloch has really different albums. They reminded me of a milder form of Moonsorrow

I think you could call CB for a Summoning-Malazan-clone, but for some reason CB sounds so much better in my ears too... wonder why? :( :D

Those two bands aren't selling it to me if I'm honest...

Certainly, but I listened to Serpent and the Sphere so often I don't really like that album anymore :/ Shouldn't have done that.

I don't really go to concerts, but a couple of weeks ago a friend took me to a festival. I was especially impressed by Ufomammut:

Is that up anyone else's alley?
