Which weapon in the Malazan series do you consider to be the most awesome. Some are powerful artifacts in their own right, with magical or anti-magical properties, and others are memorable because of the one who wields them. Still others are notable for their uniqueness.

I sense that Dragnipur might win this poll, but I'm going to be different and place my vote on Redmask's weapons, for their originality and singular use (not that the same couldn't be said of Dragnipur, but what's not to like about a whipsword!)

I voted for Kallor's sword. It was between that and Icarium's for me. Not that they seem to be special in any obvious way. But when you think about what they accomplish they are impressive. Icarium's sword is described in a throwaway line as 'indestructible' and has been with him for untold millennia and destroyed cities. Plus it cut through Karsa's bloodwood sword like a piece of cheese.

And Kallor's sword seems to be pretty old as well. TtH Spoiler

I thought the CG's sword (also Rhulad's) was one of the most memorable and that SE did an amazing job writing about its special ability and its effects on poor Rhulad's psyche as it resurrected him over and over and over. The whole circumstances surrounding Rhulad and his downfall were excellently written IMO.

Very, very, very close second is dragnipur. The idea of a world within the sword, and what horrifying things happen within that world...terrifying. I have had nightmares about it.

That's a difficult one... I went for Trull's spear in the end.

What I'd want to see was more fighting action from Leoman with his flails, as they are reputedly impossible to block by swords and spears. They are very difficult to master, but even more difficult to defeat; should have made for great reading!

Also, what Dutch said.

Poll has been edited to include an 'Other' section, as two things I forgot about - the Hust sword and Moranth munitions have already been mentioned (but I could only include one more option). If you select other, make sure to say in a post what it was!

I have to say, this poll is a lot more even than I thought it would be at the moment. Shows how many great objects of fearsome death (and their wielders) are found in the Malazan books ;)

Oh, and I'm yet to read tCG, so there's probably some awesome weapon(s) in there not included in this poll :)

As neat as some of the concepts are, i have to go with Dragnipur... a two handed black metal sword that enslaves dead souls inside it's own dimension to power a spell that keeps the gate to the center of the universe away from Chaos by way of a symbolic wagon. And it weighs so much that stone breaks if the bearer puts it down. Genius!

Most of the others are more functions of who uses them. Dragnipur is a brilliant concept all its own.

Btw, Shimmer's whipswords have a real world basis - the Indian urumi .

I don't remember the whipswords, but as it happens I'm re-reading RotCG right now, so will keep a look out for them!

Oh I agree, Dragnipur is the coolest concept (and probably the only original concept besides the singing swords), I just decided to go for the whipswords because obviously Dragnipur is going to win anyway. ;)

i like the idea behind cottilions rope. It could be a multi-faceted, spear and flail ended chain of death, spewing shadows and lightning as it tears men apart...or it could just be a bloody dangerous stretch of dental floss. Its cool either way.

I chose 'Other' because I like the Moranth munitions and the idea behind Hust swords and Cotilion's Rope
