I could not tolerate alteration of the books in details, especially the timeline...

Seriously, the idea of using the framework of the world & characters to carry anime would work well as long as it adhered to what we would think of as canon, and was written by SE & ICE. There would need to be some heavy production oversight as well by the creators. Then no one could say "I always thought he had blue eyes" or some similar thing.

@ Silencer - did you retire from Mafia?
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Hunter X hunter started again? Weird, it hasn't shown up on any of my usual manga sites.

@Chance: Thanks, I am sadly also reading berserker, but forgot to mention it as the update of it is kinda slow :)

Edit: Hunter x hunter is still in hiatus, you are probably thinking about the anime? As I wrote in my post, I am only interested in mangas due to a number of reasons :p

I just double checked, I'm not current so hadn't noticed the pause. Mangareader.net has the last update almost a 6 months back. Why would they need to do that? Anyways I see now the manga is indeed on hiatus. That sucks. It was developing nicely after the superant arc.

If you're following OP, bleach and naruto manga I'm curious why you're not enjoying Naruto? The latest plot lines are, in my opinion quite interesting. I stopped the OP manga to try the anime and its really not as good. Bleach is just not working for me either fairytale might be worth a revisit. I think I enjoy it more than OP.

I'd agree on Naruto some of the more recent plotlines have been interesting and enjoyable but the same big fight going on for dozens? a hundred? chapters really does little to keep tension high. Also the big boss reveal was pretty much an anti climax especially with several chapters of backstory interrupting what seemed to be the last part of the fight. Sure we need to know that the BBEG has motivations and ain't completly stupidly evil but pacing the story doesn't hurt especially in such a slow storytelling media.

Fairy Tale really did get a lot more interesting from s-class test and forward and some of the recent chapters have been excellent :)

Insufficient time to play and a general disenchantment with the unchanging nature of the game itself, let's say, has led me to take another prolonged leave from the games. :) I'll get back there once I have time to play again, though. :p

ETA: Just finished Fate/Zero -

Spoiler

Still, all that backstory should actually make Stay Night a lot more interesting, so I think I'll restart that and see how it goes this time. :p Thanks for the recco' guys! :p

SWORD ART ONLINE. Episode 14 FINALLY managed to just scrape the bottom of the glory that is the light novels. FUCK YEAH!!! :)

Also...where ARE they going to go from here? I can only assume [MASSIVE SPOILERS]

Spoiler

Which is awesome, but weird. Why that doesn't deserve its own season, I don't know. But the adaptation's pacing has always been off. Really, this should have been a ten-or-twelve episode season, with a couple of bonus episodes taking the place of the side stories that took up the entire first half of the thing. Then they could have spent more time developing the world and the characters, and double-episoded some of the stuff that ended up being rushed. Then you move onto the second season for the aforementioned massive-spoiler block and the continuation of the story. If you didn't think that had enough for its own season, you combine it with the third LNs arc. You don't combine the second arc with the first one, though, because the first one is considerably longer, AND the second one needs its own time to develop, ffs. PACING, DAMMIT. (This is all assuming that I'm right about where we're going next, which may not be true...but there isn't another ten episode's worth of content outside of that route, especially seeing as the content is considerably squashed in this adaptation....)

That being said, I'm still pretty satisfied with the way the last four episodes or so have played out. Still iffy distillation of the novels, but considerably better than the rest of the season. Definitely crafting a proper viewing order for this one. Not that doing that will help with what amounts to omitted content, but whatever. XD

Also, did I mention, FUCK YEAH! (Practically made me forget about Fate/Zero's ending, actually, lol!)

To answer why I think naruto suck, is that all he ever does is rasengan bla bla bla. And as mentioned above by Chance, the current arch is pretty anti-climatic in my opinion. I think I lost my motivation for it at some point 200 episodes ago, and now i am just reading to see the end of it and get a conclusion. Basically the same with Bleach, I honestly do not understand why it didnt end with the aizen arch. That would have been a great ending in my opinion.

Regarding FT, I think it has a lot of good points and the magic is quite nice. However, the "friendship triumphs everything" is so massively big that it takes away all joy now. If you read the last 5 chapters, you would know what I mean.

Honestly, the only manga that has kept a consistently high value, story and characters is OP.

heh ok, Fact is naruto is one of the poorest characters in the series. He is, at times, quite 1-dimensional. But I think the world and history in naruto is epicly vast and very rich. I genuinely still enjoy it, I see where naruto is today and what he started off as to be a hint that as we get further into the story Naruto will become a much more serious character that actually thinks, which is a must for him to become hokage.

Characters like luffy or natsu get away with being dumb because they just dont give a damn. They laugh at how things should work and do their own thing anyway. But Naruto faces genius level enemies. Madara as a concept is epic all on his own. Its a mountain of intellect, conviction and personal growth that Naruto has to climb and I think kishi is quite good at slowly maturing the guy.

Naruto has potential to be a really good story. Its unfortunate how childish and dumb it can get but unlike bleach I think the best is ahead of the series and it is getting better.

Im watching clannad right now. I didn't expect it to be this entertaining. Really funny.

Yeah, get back to me at the end of After Story, and tell me if you still think it's "really funny". :)

:p But no, in all seriousness Clannad does have some EPIC lulz in it. Tomoya is a brilliant prankster, for a start. Well, that and Sunohara is very easy to laugh at. XD Awesome show, all around. :p

Also, how the hell is Fate/Stay Night so bloody different from Zero??!?! They should remake FSN with Zero in mind as the basis. I swear, everything from the animation to the dialogue is better in Zero, and while I appreciate that the inconsistencies I'm spotting are actually technically Zero's fault, that whole story was so much better from the outset that I really don't care it was the prequel. >.< Back up to where I was before I dropped FSN, though, will continue with it this time.

And finally, Shin Sekai Yori (just started airing now, I believe) had a pretty good first episode. Looking forward to following this one. :p

Yepp the last five was kinda a let down after some really good chapters about 10-15 back.

I used to be of that opinion but I'm wondering if it ain't losing alot of its charm from being more and more tell and less show more denser text and less interesting art. Might just be me but it its been losing me since fishmanisland...

Is it just me or does this fall lineup have an amazing unprecendentedly awesome lineup
Jormungand season 2
Civilisation buster
Muv-luv TE
Psycho Pass
Shin sekai yori (which im waiting for it to finish thats how good it is. I know i wont be able to wait a week per episode
Evangelion 3.33
Hellsing Ultimate ep 9

Usualy i watch 1-3 shows a season where 1 is good rest are ok. Never awesome.

and theres also a show thats a shounen series but all the characters are either from sega and nintendo games. The main story involves how the nation of niltendo has almost completely defeat the nation of segua. I don't really care for it but it is out there.

It's a pretty good lineup. You're missing second half/season two of Sword Art Online is ongoing, though. :) And I'm pretty much watching that and Shin Sekai Yori exclusively at the moment. It burns to wait, but SO WORTH IT.

Honestly, the best thing about SSY at the moment is its ambiguity. And the really awesome art shifted/abstract sequences at the start and the ED. XD The rest of the show is brilliant, of course, but those two elements are what make it exceptionally intriguing. :p

The easiest way to have made this a better lineup, though, would be Haruhi season 3/a new movie, plus FRIGGING DARKER THAN BLACK SEASON THREE (why couldn't that rumour have been true?!?!?!?). :)

I just rewatched the ending of FATE zero then watched swordart ep. 14 directly after. My mind was completely blown. Awesome stuff.

I also rewatched Vampire Hunter D. I really wish I could source more on this movie. Its really good world building. I would like to add that Giant Killing season 2 is on the cards and the end of season 1 really gripped me. Its IPPO all over again. Sport anime fans have reccomended Eyeshield 21 but I havent really followed american football. Might experiment later this week.

I'm hearing rumours of a new Claymore season but nothing solid. other than darker than black S3 I most would like to see claymore S2 happen. Claymore is epic anime. A top 10 for me, maybe even top 5. The manga seems to be getting somewhere but been lax abt following it. I am solidly into Fairy Tale though. Reminds of what I used to enjoy most about One Piece.

@silencer, due to the failure that was DTB s2 i doubt we'll be seeing another one.

also there is a rumour about a new claymore season every year. So far it has proven untrue time and again.

Yeah, SAO ep 14 was epic. As I said upthread, it was the first episode to actually get close to making me feel how I felt reading the novels. :p And so far the next two eps actually do not disappoint. I wonder if the studio has finally hit its stride? :S

@BL...come on...Gemini was not that much of a failure. I actually liked it MORE than the first season the first (several dozen) times I watched it. Though granted, I switched to subbed for watching that and everything is better subbed. And the dub of season two just makes me want to kill myself. But it has young teens as major characters and that is NEVER a good thing for the dubs. *sigh* While I know it did not have that epic set of two-episode mini-arcs, and it didn't have that awesome mystery and suspense of the first one, it definitely had a tighter story to tell. And it had many brilliant scenes throughout.
HOWEVER, none of that has anything to do with season 3. Why? Because season three should be a prequel, set in the years prior to and including Heaven's War, focusing on Hei and Bai with periodic step sideways to visit people like November 11, April and July, etc. It should revert to the season one format. And be just as long. Now, tell me you wouldn't KILL to see that? :p (With the caveat that they do not, ever, reveal much more about the mysteries of the Gate, et al. That would be terrible.)

...have I mentioned that Shin Sekai Yori is super awesome yet in this post? I don't think I have. SHIN SEKAI YORI IS FREAKING AWESOME. There we go. XD

OK, so, I've already figured out that Shin Sekai Yori is one of those shows I'm going to rewatch a truckload. And in fact, it's one that you may NEED to rewatch a lot to get the full story. But I have no fucking clue what the hell just went down in Episode 5. In some places the art style got pretty abstract. XD I'm gonna need to watch that one again several times before episode 6 rolls around, I think.

Still, Shin Sekai Yori for new anime of the year, I think! :The Force:

I am pretty sad that Witch Hunter seems discontinued. I actually throught it had a really interesting story and characters.

Also, Bleach continues to suck.

And Zoro is a fucking beast in the latest OP - god I love that manga.

I need your help. I need more anime to watch.

Watched:
Bleach- Love it
Naruto- Love it
Eureka- Meh
One Piece- Never really got into it (mean to go back)
Evangelion- Difficult one. Loved the action, found the story weird. Also was his girlfriend the reincarnation of his mother? WTF!
Guilty Crown- Liked it. Strong first half, weak second half
Hellsing- Liked it, but the main character is just a bit overpowered dont you think.
DBZ- Loved it, too much filler though

Plan to Wacth:
Fate/Zero
Fairy Tale

Based on the above can you suggest any shows/Movies I may like.

Witch Hunter Robin is a big recommend from me. Short too.

FLCL is another shortie, but goldie.

And you go back to One Piece right now.

Also, Daily Lives of High School Boys is a weird shortie but goldie too.

No idea on the rest.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.
