Another great anime is Un-Go, a Sherlock Holmesesque mystery-solving anime, but with some fantasy thrown in there. Once again, pretty short anime but interesting premise, the episode plotlines are often surprising and entertaining.

Zombies in Ga-Rei? Seriously?
Ga rei zero was thoroughly enjoyable. I'd say episodes 1-2 sort of ruin the suspense but such is life. And before you say anything, no this isn't your stereotypical zombie apocalypse group of survivors story. Zombie are just one of the many foes the protagonists have to face (some of the monsters are quite imaginative)
I've seen Ga-Rei a couple of years ago. And there are no zombies in it, only Japanese mythical creatures like nue and similar. And also I thought of them more like ghosts, or possessed people, not actual zombies.

Just finished watching the latest episode of sword-art online.
I remember mentioning Ga-rei Zero years ago on the forums, no one sounded interested, but glad to find someones enjoying it. Definitely one of the better animated stories of 2008.
I am now being forced to watch Campione with my brother. Its...I don't really know. when people started throwing boars at each other I just lost all general hope :-/
EDIT:
Has anyone started watching Hunter X Hunter 2011? I'm on the fence about it right now. The manga is a huge favourite for me and I'd like to know if its worth watching.

Good article!
I do tend to imagine how awesome a real-life SAO would be, and it would be atrocious if it incorporated half the crap that WoW does. Instanced raids, for example. Lack of truly unique weapons/gear/skills. Let's face it, if it didn't turn into a death game, SAO would be just about every video game player's wet dream, when it comes down to it.

Great article indeed! I think SAO hit us at the perfect time. Its easy to believe in the virtual trap. I get that they all start to develop something very similar to en mass stockholm syndrome. I have never played online before but I can easily see myself loving and hating being trapped in one.

Well in another perspective it's a literal metaphor for mmos. What i mean is that mmos tend be to be escapist. You are no longer John Doe, you become Sir Mcawesomes alot the first or whatever else you want to be. If your community is small enough, or you just end up being lucky/have a lot of time you can get a significant amount of recognition from other players that in real life you would never have. Its an escape from an otherwise boring life sometimes, and often some e-friendships are considering more important then real relationships. You go from a dull life to a "magica" or otherwise fantastic one. They become more important then your actual life. In SAO lo and behold this is what happens. The center of your focus is this fictional world.
Either that or i had an incredibly bizarre experience with mmos myself.

@BalrogLord: I hear MMO players tend to get addicted to the experience and go through actual withdrawal when denied a chance to go online and play. Honestly I can't say thats much different from being trapped in the game.
Hey guys, I am looking for an anime with good kinetic animation. What's good out there? Off the top of my head I thought Sword of the stranger was the most fluid animation I've seen, can you guys suggest anything on par with it?

Someone should just do an Anime series based upon Malazan Book of the Fallen...that way you can keep all the beautiful complexity and go all crazy on the Warrens.

I get the feeling they would fuck it up more then anything. There's too much material in the book. The fact that the book doesn't explain itself is a turn off for the majority of people. Now only that but is it possible to condense a book into a 24 episode season (480minutes or 8 hours?)

I think I agree with you BalrogLord but heres my thoughts on the subject:
If you convert an epic into an anime It would likely go the berserk route. I think Berserk is not a story that spans a great deal of content, successfully telling a huge story fairly quickly. I also think They would never get the whole series into a 24 episodes but a book? maybe two? that I believe is doable.
I think MoI or Return of the Crimson Gaurd would be the easiest to convert with a plethora of scenes that need little backstory to appreciate. for this same reason such an anime will fail as you will almost always struggle to maintain the gravity of the convergences since so much character content would very likely get cut. Regardless of how successfuly the story can be carried over it is the animation that would make or break a malazan anime. The characters would have to be drawn in a certain way with clear facial naunces. Seriously speaking the malazan world is better off acted than animated. Not in a Game of Thrones kind of way, more in a Lord of the Rings meets Avatar type way.

I need more mangas to read.
Reading the big three aka OP, naruto, bleach (only enjoy OP, just feels forced to cont. reading the others).
Then we have Hunter X hunter (on haitus), Tower of God (sooo gooood), Fairy Tail, Claymore, Beelzebub (great fun), Historys strongest disciple (kinda boring), Gantz, and probably a few more that I cannot remember. Reading Sword art online also, but the manga is only at episode 7?
Any recommendations? (Ye, I know its the Anime thread but bear with me).

Anime buff for some time..
Should check out Legend of Galactic Heroes..Lets just say its something you dont come by often.the sheer scope of the story puts movies tot shame.Character wise its epic. For history ,war, strategy and antihero lovers.
Code geass is just as good but from a different perspective ..Should try it just for the torn hearts of Lelouch and suzaku..
Anything Myazaki is just beautiful and heartwarming.

Pretty much my reading list too thought most of it is more reflex (Fairy Tail has been pretty good recently however) then real interest but if you haven't tried berserker do so immidiatly, it sucks to follow once caught (so slow updates) up but the material which is out is very good especially artwise, much the same with Ubel Blatt which has occational moments of brillians especially after a rough start both are far from the standard anime/manga and more towards fantasy in my oppinion. There are a few others but the names elude me there was this detective story a finished manga...

hunterXHunter is off its haitus, both anime and manga have been getting updates for some time now...just thought I'd pop in to correct that...and the new stuff is brilliant. already my favourite "forever" manga again, pure win.
I'm trying Legend of Galactic Heroes...really couldn't handle the beginning. so old and slowwwwww...but I feel the scope and the intrigue. I wish it was dubbed. reading subs feels a bit tiresome. hope it gets better, I recall feeling the same way about code gaes and it drop kicked my awesome-meter after the third episode.

Hunter X hunter started again? Weird, it hasn't shown up on any of my usual manga sites.
@Chance: Thanks, I am sadly also reading berserker, but forgot to mention it as the update of it is kinda slow
Edit: Hunter x hunter is still in hiatus, you are probably thinking about the anime? As I wrote in my post, I am only interested in mangas due to a number of reasons

Well, I wouldn't actually do a "straight" adaptation that follows the books, to be honest. It can be a series "based upon" the Malazan Book of the Fallen, but follow it's own chronology but keep it in the same universe, with all the great characters. I honestly don't believe the novels can be adapted as they are. Whenever folks talk about movie or TV adaptations, they keep referencing Game of Thrones. "Look what they did with Game of Thrones," they say. But that series is really nothing like Malazan. Or rather, Malazan is nothing like Song of Ice and Fire. SE and ICE's shared universe is so complex and deep that rewards readers with repeated readings... trying to adapt the books is like trying to adapt Finnegans Wake or Naked LUnch. ...in order to do it, you would have to come up with a new, imaginative way of depicting the same universe, so that it achieves a dramatic effect on the big or small screen.
So what I like about doing an Anime series...is that it can actually take its time on all the "boring details" that us fans love so much. I don't know. I'm not a purist when it comes to adapting books to TV or movies. The books are books, the movies are movies. Completely different media and approach. One of my favorite adaptations is Naked Lunch. Cronenberg knew that it was impossible to make a straight adaptation of the actual book. so he came at it from a completely different angle...about the writer being able to write such a book in the first place. Also, Jackson's Lord of the Rings movie version took liberties with the chronology of the books and, in my opinion, it made the story much better, much more dramatic than the actual source material.
In the end, I would get a kick out of a comic book version of Malazan, a TV series, a bunch of movies, an anime series, whatever...so long as it is done with imagination and respect for the work, it will have it's own merits. Nothing can touch the books...but it is quite obvious to me that the books can certainly touch other things...as it has touched many people.

No, seriously, where does Gilgamesh GET all this stuff? >.< Fate/Zero...if Stay had been even close to this, it would have been a really awesome series and prequel. As it is, Zero is pretty good all by itself.
