It is. It really, really is. Best abridged series by far, and you don't even need to have seen the original show to enjoy it a ton.

It's so weird trying to watch any clips from the real DBZ now. I instinctively expect their voices to be the Abridged voices!

OK D'rek, looks like you were right. The final RePETIT was a shameless plug for the light novel. I am bereft.

Sadly ;)

But let's turn this into a discussion... everybody, what's your favourite shows that are adapted from a manga/LN/VN/etc and do have a proper end (even if it's not the same as the source), aren't just shameless plugs to go play/read the source material?

Hmmn.

Death Parade? It was a complete show. very complete, beginning to end.

Edit for list:

KATANAGATARI. also very complete, rushed but a nice begining to end with no loose ends or shameless avenues for tie-ins. that way the story had consequence.

Samurai Champloo for same as above.

Disclaimer: Not 100% sure these were adapted from or inspired the manga of a similar name. They just worked as a complete show.

First episode of The Last Witch Izuma has aired.

It's set during the start of WW2 and follows the heir of a small fictional country that is about to be invaded by the Germans (geographically, this country replaces western Austria... or you could say it's a much bigger Lechtenstein). Princess flees to Switzerland for a secret meeting to try and speed up an Allied assault, but the SAS are in pursuit and there's some occult influence going on.

I really liked it! The main character Fine is reckless and self-sacrificing, the German characters already have a variety of personalities so it looks like it won't just be a horde-of-uber-evil depiction of them, everything looks period-appropriate (as far as I can tell... a WW2 history buff might disagree) and the visuals+music are good.

Definitely worth checking out!

Drifters looks okay...ish?

It's looking a bit too ambitious to be honest but It has good pedigree based off the manga of the same name by Kouta Hirano, the same author of Hellsing.

Based off the simple premise of warriors basicly at deaths door being yanked out of time and placed into a new dimension. I haven't watched anything more than the first episode but there's been a lot of talk about it. The MC, Shimazu Toyohisa, was at deaths door when involved in the Battle of Sekigahara. I can see the historians either loving or hating this show.

Oda nobunaga is in it. I feel like there's less reverence to his legend, more real man than great man which is good. I'll keep an eye on it but not sure if I'd rather follow Bungou stray dogs season 2 instead.

Just browsing the TV Tropes Fall Anime list and nothing jumped out at me at all. :p

Mind you, I've been on an anime hiatus for far too long and it just means I've got more time to whittle down my to-watch pile instead of adding to it yet again! >.<

Dragon Ball Super at least is interesting.

See above for Shuumatzu no Izetta recco. 3 episodes so far and I'm still really enjoying it. There's quite a bit of WW2 combat bits, surprisingly not just montage'd past, and based on comments they're being quite realistic with the tactics and equipment used (e.g. in the latest episode, it seems the Germanian tank company used two different types of tanks in the correct roles... I don't know what it was, but some commenters were very impressed).

Spoilery part from episode 3 if you're still not convinced.

3-Gatsu no Lion is looking very interesting. Kind of boring/been-done premise - mopey teenage boy MC is a pro Shogi player, has bad relations with his family but has a super-duper-cheery pseudo-foster family, probably has a traumatic past of some kind, etc. The art and directing seem pretty good though - the tone can shift very suddenly but naturally between wacky segments and morose segments, and its supported by some very cool artsy sections. It's a very SHAFT show, I guess, but I'm hopeful that will make it a lot more interesting and compelling than the basic premise would otherwise.

Classicaloids is pure Sunrise-LSD. I won't spoil the best parts, but here's Beethoven cooking Gyoza while Mozart annoys him (and while Sousuke pretends he's a musician):

Lastly, if you're not watching Yuri on Ice then I don't even know what you're doing here!

I'm actually mostly caught up on this now!

The inter-universe tournament was actually pretty cool, though I really don't like anything with Jaco.

This new future arc has some interesting ideas, too, but it sure does emphasizes how little the time-travel/multiverse stuff makes sense. But if you can't beat the bad guy through combat... and the bad guy says they can just warp to any moment in time and use the super dragon balls at that time... well why don't the good guys, who also have time travel and teleportation, just go to a different moment in time, get the super dragon balls themselves and use those to defeat the bad guy? The explanations for why they can't use the dragon balls and/or time travelling to earlier to beat the bad guy are getting *really* convoluted!

It gets really dumb... like you have a bunch of people in a room in the "present" talking about someone fighting in the future and saying "We don't have much time, ____ is fighting them right now so we have to hurry!". Eugh. Dragon ball writers really just shouldn't do time travel.

Cool clips for the first show. The magic swords in that second clip are hilarious. Btw, your first link is broken due to an appended 'http://'.

Dragon Ball Super just got a "simulcast":

http://www.animenews...nimelab/.107853

Crunchyroll, Daisuki, AnimeLab.

We'll find out this weekend how good their subs are.

I put "simulcast" in quotes because apparently it will air with subs the hour after it airs live in Japan. But, that's still pretty amazing for someone who has been relying on fansubs for months. Even the fastest ones don't come out until about 10-12 hours later, and the good subs were never any quicker than 2 days. (They're weeks behind now.)

Yeah, it's about damn time. Really shows how little Dragonball is a priority of Toei's these days.

I don't know about that. It seems to have been legally very tricky because DB is kind of a relic with some very old (and binding) deals in place. Shueisha has meanwhile established a department ("DB room") dedicated entirely to Dragon Ball.

Speaking of gay, the current DBS arc has very nearly wandered into canon selfcest recently. Sadomasochistic selfcest. (But not twincest.) I love it so much.

I have this on my TWP. The fact you've recommended it is a reassurance - it was a random pick whilst browsing for new things.

Updates on what I've been doing:

Finished Asterisk War. It was excellent throughout up until the last few episodes where it sort of fell apart a little. Still very enjoyable overall.

JoJo PT4 finally got good when Kira came onto the scene. I'm now fully caught up with it.

Keijo is just straight up stupid fun, and I love it for that.

I'm off most of this week with the missus at work so I'll sit down with LWOI and see what I reckon.
