While this certainly was that, comparatively, it still had a reasonable amount of action/drama - we saw what must be about our first Titan kill, iirc, and while it was handled with little to no fuss, that fits the image of Mikasa; an image which was then expounded upon for pretty much the rest of the episode, to reasonable effect. It could have been handled better, specifically the horrendously typical "rich merchant blocks the way" thing - though I heartily applaud Mikasa's response and solution - and there hasn't really been enough character depth to give much weight to Mikasa's backstory, imo, which is a shame because that's a pretty epic(ly sad/horrifying) backstory, that if played right could have been pretty powerful. Then again, this is fundamentally a shounen anime, with the focus more on badass people doing badass things in (in this case) absolutely horrifying situations that (for once) tend to result in the vast majority of the redshirts dying (by reputation, and so far in practice, including a LOT of the named characters). So I appreciated the fact that they did spend a bit of time and effort on the other stuff, even if it wasn't perfect.

And more to the point, this was a breather episode. Look at all the blood and death! XD I'm now pretty much convinced that Eren will make a comeback though. Glad they left it hanging, too, 'cuz taking their time with that is worth it, either way.

So yeah, overall I enjoyed it, it just wasn't ever going to live up to the last episode, for me.

Fair enough, lol - if you were expecting immediate resolution/continuation of ep 5 it would be a bit disappointing, for sure. You haven't missed much in the preview for 7, though, it was pretty vague-but-specific, if you know what I mean (i.e. it didn't tell us much detail about the episode but was pretty specific about one of the scenes it showed, lol).

Looking forward to it, either way.

Good episodes 6 and 7. However, I'm a bit unsure about one thing. How is the Eren of episode 6 the same Eren of the beginning of the series?

It seems to be very inconsistent for Eren's capabilities, even if it's a good/very sad origin story for Mikasa.

was probably not deus-ex machina. It is likely that they will expand on that flashback a couple episodes back. They planted seeds in the show to possibly explain the new titan, though perhaps not immediately understandable. A buddy of mine figures that the father's injections might have something to do with the intestine genie.

What the fuck kind of doctor injects his own son with a bunch of untested mystery substances, disappears for three years and hopes his son gets eaten by a Titan to fully realize the magic of the untested mystery substances?

If Mikasa is part of the injected crew of kids, this is even more bizarre. This is some sort of demented accidentally on purpose Mengele shit.

Mikasa is definately on team titan. the fact she has super strength when in human form hints at her being a next-gen. What we do know is the new titans and Eren are related. We also know that the doctor is up to mischief and as he travels alot its safe to assume he has made many other such experiments. I would not be surprised if we get more Titans popping up of higher intellect. One thing is baffling me, if he experimented on the son why not the mother?

This show was IMMEDIATELY addictive, and has ramped up my interest and enjoyment with every subsequent episode.

Wow, I've not been this impressed since SHIN SEKAI YORI.

Crunchyroll is the best place to watch, in my experience. I watch nearly everything there.

As far as I know (seeing as how the theatrical release in Japan was last November I think and the DVD was April 24th this year) the English dub will be handled by Funimation (who handled the first two films), but they've not posted word one on if they've even started work on the dub yet. If we go by the timeframe of the previous films it's something like 2 years from Japanese theatrical release to North American theatrical and subsequent DVD/BluRay release...so you've still got a LONG wait. I'll be optimistic and say it won't show up till AT LEAST 2014.

That said there do seem to be Subbed versions floating around the net, but the translations are likely as iffy as old fansubs were. Depending on who did the encoding, it could be a garbage translation. I don't know.

I'm waiting for the English dub to hit theaters here, as I've attended screenings of both previous films in the theatre (it's so rare we get any non-Studio Ghibli releases in theatres in North America) with two friends.

But I'm prepared to wait.
