@jitsukker
My mental work around for the age problem was that in his youth (I think this is referenced in book 2) he is..gifted? Certain bonuses when the needs arise (excepting the ending, which you would have to run on the assumption he's just a massive kid, possibly altered by the fallout that still remains I the world)
when his age is referenced in book 1 it is kind if a jolt but I switched it off just.
@mark, do you do your own covers or does the artist just keep you well up to date?

Just finished book 1. Slightly underwhelmed given the rave reviews you guys have been giving it. Still enjoyed it, but I really wanted Jorg to be what he was presented as, rather than the backtrack we got at the end. There were some very frantically handwaved moments plotwise, too. Prose, though, was excellent, and dialogue also. But I fail to be convinced that a 13-year-old boy would be capable of the kinds of physical feats Jorg managed -- that felt really like wish-fulfilment, and there was a part of me that read it with one eyebrow permanently raised.
I'll wait for the MPB to read the 2nd, I think.

I worked in a School for orphans who were too difficult for the regular school system. There were several 12-13 year olds bigger than I am. I guess it came easily for me to imagine him as I remember those kids.

I read this ages ago, loved it. Hermaphrodite who taught a hawk to assassinate a monk? That is just chock-full of win
tbh, I feel a bit starstruck seeing the author posting here - well done sir and I would be very pleased to call you my friend.

LOVED Prince and King!!! One of the best new series that I've found recently. When is Emperor scheduled to be released?

If only someone who would know, like, for example, the author himself, had popped into this topic and given the answer just a few posts before yours.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I still await completion of the series.
That'll be on August 1st then! The trilogy was written before the first book hit the shelves.

heh - I've been mistaken for someone famous! Cool
The books in question are these:

http://www.goodreads...-king-of-thorns

& I must admit to have included fewer hemaphrodites and monk-assassinating hawks than perhaps I should have.
If you remember the title of the book you were thinking of, let me know!

I can never tell is something is a result of Mal's particular brand of humour, or if he's just drunk

I thought he meant August THIS year and was speaking more about the cover.

I don't even know what book Mal is referring to, but it sounds kinda awesome.
Not as awesome as Jorg though.

Im kinda surprised at that cover showing Jorgs back. I was thinking we d get an unhooded Jorg with the Crown for the last book. I loled at my 5 yr old son when I showed him both books a few weeks ago cause he thought it was an Assassins Creed books since I ve played most of them while he watches and commands I kill those guards on that roof over there!
I believe the thinking is that if they showed you Jorg (or any other important character on other book covers) and he didn't look like you thought he should you would be far more irked than you might be by not seeing him at all.

Yeah, you could end up with something like this:
"Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life." - Terry Pratchett, Jingo"Just erotic. Nothing kinky. It's the difference between using a feather and using a chicken." - Terry Pratchett, Eric

Enjoyed King, but the time-shifts in this one slowed down my reading a bit. I just wanted to keep reading the wedding chapters!
This series reminds me a bit of Ken Scholes Psalms of Issak with the setting and semi-rediscovery of older age technologies.
Eagerly anticipating Emperor.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Bollocks.
The character in the book I read was named Thorn, wow I really am getting old..
Anyway it was called Raptor and it was written by Gary Jennings. And yeah, it was very cool at the time.
Apologies for the mix-up.

King of Thorns has followed in Prince's footsteps and is a nominee for the Goodreads Fantasy Book of the Year!

How many of the 15 have you read? (Me, just Stephen King's excellent addition to the Dark Tower series)
Anything need writing into the last 5 spots?
Here I try to canvas your vote to get my disabled little girl's charity picture-book written in for the Best Picture-Book poll
