Shadow of Mordor
Game just begins like you put down the first game a minute ago and picked up 2. Just throws you right in, very little backstory or gameplay mechanics explained. First few hours felt repetitive and grindy, then the brakes on gameplay are removed and you can brand followers agaian and start conquering forts it gets fun. Having said that I have only conquered 1. I could potentially see how that by the time I am taking down fort five things could get boring again.
Despite appearances from trailers I also feel very little was added mechanically. The forts are just a slight evolution of the nemesis system actually. Also now that there is like a 100 orcs its hard to really keep track of favourites or hated enemies. Also the new mechanics like your glaive, or using it on mounts etc looks better than it did in the fist game but plays essentially identical.
That said I liked the first game. I like this game.
Been playing a few hours of Shadow of War every week at a friends place.
Like you say it feels like more of the same, just expanded and adjusted. The story is forgettable and the characters are strangely ugly. Talion looks like he doesn't have any eyebrows a lot of the time.
The Orcs however are amazing. Just the addition of Orcs that actively hunt you and ambush you makes for a much more fraught and tense gameplay. You'll be carefully planning out your sneak attack and then just when you think you've got the upper hand, behind you you her "MAN FILTH!". I just love it.
I think the game has moved so far from Tolkiens themes now that it might as well be a completely different IP. The orcs are way too colorful, funny and rich in personality.

Tried Doom. Not a big of fan of the movement controls. I don't really feel like I have control of my character. I'm playing Metal Gear Solid 5, I've only played the original Metal Gear Solid on the original Playstation before this. It's a little different than I remember back in 1998.
Doom as in Doom 4 2016? How can you not like the movement? It's so fast and fluid. Just keep moving, always be charging, strafing, mantling and jumping. You should be assaulting to Demons, not the other way around.
MGS5 is very different from every other game in the series. MGS4 took steps towards making MGS a more modern streamlined third person shooter but it's only with MGS5 that Konami perfected the formula. It's probably the tightest game of its kind.
My advice is that you should always be kidnapping soldier and stealing resources, to boost you research. Always be researching new stuff because it's very time consuming.
