me too. hoping to grab a new card my the time it comes out. CDP RED does not disappoint.

Mainly because all my best strategy games are on the pc, and my setup hasn't been good since I moved house, and I hate playing games on the laptop.

Also, decent strategy games need a bit of investment and continuity - I only get a couple of hours to play in an evening if I'm lucky, and it's no good just dipping into a long campaign every few days. It's a lot easier to put a few hours into progressing through an rpg or something.

I mean, Crusader Kings is great but not when you put it on and spend the only playing time you have trying to figure out what you were doing last time.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I aquired The Last Federation. There is too much depth for me to grasp it properly yet, but I think this game is going to be a lot of fun. We'll see.

Been playing some indie games lately. I played:

Gunpoint. It's a 2D puzzle platformer'ish spy/hacking game that got a lot of attention last year. It's made by a games journalist who decided to try and make a videogame. It's really good. The story is well written and funny and the game mechanic, linking electronics inside of building to navigate the level, are really satisfying and challenging.

Papers, Please. Started this when it was released last year and didn't like it and subsequently left it to linger for half a year or so. Went back to it yesterday and played through the whole game over the course of an afternoon and evening. REALLY engrosing game. You wouldn't think checking documents would be a fun game but the game mechanic, checking identification according to government decree's combined with the 80s soviet era dystopian system made for a really interesting experience. Towards the end I got really fucking good at checking documents, even as the amount of documents grew, my routine allowed me to efficiently and quickly go through the papers and cross reference the right issuing places, etc. I occasionally would help some people but most of the time I was just a super strict asshole clerk. I'd take people bribe money and have them detained anyway, dismiss people for small things like mentioning the wrong date, etc, It was great.

Finally I have been battling with Luftrausers all week. The game is pretty simple, fly around and shoot stuff, but the mechanics are really satisfying. The game is frustrating me though. To "win" the game or at least continue to progress you have to find and destroy a blimp, but actually reaching the point where the Blimp appears seems impossible to me. When I initially started the game it was summoned a few times but I never saw it. Now, when I have everything unlocked, I just can't seem to get the damn thing to come fight me. Stupid blimp.

Anyway Luftraussers is super addictive.

Far Cry 3, The Last of Us, AC Black Flag, GTA V.. even Dark Souls 2 to an extent, are all games I've enjoyed initially but, in the case of the first four at least, tired of very quickly and not finished. Tomb Raider is good I hate the previous games. I havent played it but the gf has and ive watched her on it/helped her through bits. Its a decent game but nothing amazing.

I know what you mean sometimes I get sick of games in general and it takes something to grab me. I got sick of open world games so I went back to the linear ones like the batman games. I dunno maybe take a break or get your teeth into something different like a strategy game or something.

Different studio, different story, different location.

Fallout 3 takes place on the East Coast and New Vegas is, you guessed it, on the West Coast.

There was something like a 3-4 year gap between my playthrough of F3 and NV so it's hard to compare them. I think I liked F3 more just because of the novelty of playing it for the first time and Washington is cooler than a desert.

I never truly finished NV. I got like 50 hours in and then discovered the camp location of Caesar and decided to take him out. Completely circumvented tons of quest lines in one go and I called it a day.

Is it a sequel or simply a large DLC expansion?

I know its gonna take atleast 100 hours off me so im reluctant to start. Like I said maybe Saints Row IV first.

It is a stand alone game and story with at least as much content as Fallout 3.

As far as I recall New Vegas touches upon some elements from the first game but there isn't any overlap in the stories.

I'd definitely play Saints Row 4 first. I loved that game so much.

Really? Was advised by someone in work to buy but the gf put it on the other day and played through the intro. Didnt think much of it tbh but if its worth sticking with ill have a go. If New Vegas is a seperate game but on the same engine that should keep me busy. Ill load up SR IV tomorrow night then.

I guess it depends on whether or not one liked the shift between SR2 and SR3 from "gangsta comedy" to just riduculous gangsta superstar rocklegend over the top awesomeness. The 4th game is like the third in that it is not the worlds most serious game, it's pretty silly through and through. But the story is actually pretty funny (if stupid) and the characters are really likeable. I am also a sucker for the open world orb collection from Crackdown which this game somehow manages to do way better.

And it has a fantastic ending.

SR3 and SR4 are some of the most fun games I've ever played.

I've put dozens of hours into Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and I greatly prefer the latter. I think the people at Obsidian are vastly better writers than anyone at Bethesda.

I looked into getting Arkham Origina to keep the theme going like Apt said but even pre owned it was like 18 quid. Not on a budget but still cant do it when ive got a pile of games already.

SRIV it is. Ive never actually played any others so itll be fairly new. Ill give it a go later. Im hoping the open world stuff is like a less serious version of prototype.

Fallout 3 will have to wait.

Also Dark Souls is coming up as the new Games with Gold offer in June. Ive already got the Prepare to die edition but ill likely start a new game when it becomes downloadable to play it through when the servers are busy which ive never done before. Never been invaded at all.

SUBTLE NINJA EDIT- Has anyone tried Dragons Dogma? Someone said it was like a more arcadey forgiving Dark Souls so I thought it might be worth a look.

Dumping more time than is probably healthy into Battlefield 4, and I'm also feeling my old BF3 skills coming back at a steady pace. I especially liked the increased destruction of the environment and the pyrotechnics. Double-edged sword really, because while they can't see me, I really can't see them either.

In short, hectic, frantic, stressful and not really that great for relieving frustrations and aggressions.

Saints Row 3 is the free game with the xbox live this month so I started that rather than jump into Saints Row 4. Playing an older game after playing the sequel usually means it suffers in comparison through no fault of its own. Has anyone played Oblivion recently it plays like a bag of shit yet it was the best thing ever when it came out.

Ive never played a Saints Row game before which is a shame as I didnt know they were essentially the GTA games before they tried top get serious. Its like San Andreas with better graphics which is only a good thing.

It was, by far, the worst TES game, post-transition-to-3d.


*insert giant rant on exactly why it was pretty crap in hindsight here*

Heck, the Dark Brotherhood was the only guild questline with decent writing. That alone should earn it condemnation as a successful TES/RPG title. :rolleyes:

I should have known better than to mention TES on this board as it turns into everyone bumming Morrowind up the arse.

I never played it and I have no desire to play it. The first elder scrolls game I played was Oblivion and I thought the world and the lore was very good with the engine being very enjoyable at the time. It hasnt aged well graphically and the engine seems awful compared to Skyrim but the first time I came out of the sewers into a bright world and could do whatever I wanted I knew id love the game. It was a very enjoyable experience.

'But tiam you dont get it man, all youve got to do is sell everything you own, buy a top of the range gaming pc and get Morrowwind. Then youve only got to spend, like, 5 days constantly downloading mods and youll get the same nostalgia boners I get over Morrowwind. Honestly the story was so much better.....'
