My first console was a Sega Master system (v.2) in the mid to late 80s, then I got a gameboy, then a SNES despite loving SEGA but I NEEDED to own Super mario world, then switched to playstation and then I didn't own a console again before buying the PS3 and Xbox 360 late in their generation.

My first console was a second-hand Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), for which I owned maybe three games and only really played one - Sonic the Hedgehog (which I'm fairly certain I could still complete blindfolded).
My first proper serious console was the Dreamcast. Still the greatest console ever made, according to me. Never owned a PlayStation till number 4 (though now I also own 2 and 3 second-hand).

Maark. I feel like you're the videogame version of my posts in the movie forum.
Link to the Past is one of the best video games ever made. Like, to this day, it's number one or near the top of every top 100 list.

Argumento ad Populum. I didn't like it. To this day I don't really understand the appeal (nor of Ocarina, which I thought was pretty bad).
In fact I can't think of any Zelda game I'd describe as good. The closest the series came was Smash Melee with Sheik being top tier.
Best role playing game on the SNES was easily Chrono Trigger, with the best action RPG being Seiken Densetsu 3. Coincidentally, Square then went on to make the absolutely dreadful FF7 and then I fell out of love with them bigtime.

He's from Barnsley, it's allowed
I started with the Game Boy (then Mega Drive) but I didn't get another Nintendo console until the Game Cube and Game Boy Advance. Between them, the GC and GBA had most of my all-time favourite games, so I confess I'm a Nintendo fan. Every now and then I get bored with the other consoles and the pc and return to Nintendo (as I've been doing for the past month or so) and rediscover what a joy their games can be.
Oh, and I agree about Chrono Trigger, although I didn't play it until the DS version

I had a period of 10 years where I played a few PC games, a lot of World of Warcraft and not much else.

Didn’t own a PS2¿
Man that is fucking bonkers!
It's quite possible to live without ever owning a console. I'm a living example (though I'm considering a Playstation possibly at some point in my life (unless PS Now gets around to letting me download games on PC, the way they now allow on the console)

Dreadful FF7??? You're a videogame hipster!
Not quite sure why this makes me a hipster, it was bad. Dropped it after five hours. See: Weebl & Bob parody for the reasons why. I can never fathom why something so garbage is so universally loved.

Console wise, I went Commodore 64, SNES, Game Boy, Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, PC, Xbox 360, XBOne, PS4, Xbox (softmodded for retro times).

Back on the topic of games: finished Darksiders. Killed the Destroyer in one go, it was a bit anti-climactic, really (considering highest difficulty).
Started PoP: Warrior Within and it's... not great. Holding up a lot worse than Sands of time, and feels way more focused on combos. I'm presuming it's due to the controller-focused design (which isn't a problem in itself, cuz my mouse has 4 buttons, so I can mimic that), but the overall look is just not really drawing me in.

Prison Architect question - I have an inmate who requires protective custody as he's a Snitch.
Unfortunately despite designating such a wing, I can't actually change his security level at all. Anyone got ideas?

Emo-Prince is a major PITA to steer. binding camera controls to numpad arrows helped somewhat- there were less deaths due to blindly running into sharp and spiky obstacles.
I'm not impressed with the amount of backtracking I've been doing so far. It reminds me of Soul Reaver 2, and as much as I adore the story in that game, the gameplay is mostly garbage, trudging the same set of linear levels back and forth across 3 timelines, with an occcaisonal interruption from the dreary combat for a block of puzzles. I sincerely hope Warrior Within doesn't follow a similar model.

OK found a second menu set with PA. Unfortunately I'd not adequately expanded at that stage so the Snitch got killed. Seems the best way to deal with it is mark any unknown reputations as protected, set up a bunch of phone taps, and see what happens.
Also started searching cell blocks when the prisoners are at meals which has led to some interesting discoveries in the cells (namely a hacksaw).

Finished Fire Emblem: Awakening a couple of days ago and, yeah, straight into my top 5 all-time favourite games. Absolutely loved it. Still got some post game content to do but the story is wrapped up.
Last night I made a start on SteamWorld Heist (3DS version). The gameplay's excellent, it looks gorgeous, and the music is brilliant. Love the old Saturday matinee Western serial aesthetic

Emo-prince is driving me crazy with the auto-lock that can't be disabled. When you're fighting a golem mini-boss, and I point you towards some clay jars because I need more sands, I DON'T want you to turn around and start moving towards the boss I spent the last 20 seconds dodging AWAY from! Argh.
The whole shift to a more combat-focused game was ill-advised, imho.

Yeah, it's so much fun - love those cowbots!
Give Awakening a go. I'm getting ready to dive into the next one, FE Fates: Birthright, but I already have so many games on the go at the moment.

Had to look up a let's play online for the first time. Because emo-prince refused to climb up a puzzle piece despite it obviously being the way to move forward. Finicky controls strike again.
Beyond that, climbing and wall-running to activate gigantic machines is passable fun. The game does a very poor job explaining how I'm getting all these time manipulation abilities (the original game used the Dagger of Time, but that's gone now; instead there's an amulet of some sort, but no explanation of how I got it).
Combat only really becomes crazy acrobatic in those rare cases when there are columns to go crazy off. Otherwise, it's a pretty rote "jump overv enemy with a vertical slice" combo-spam. Except for the vampire ninja-geishas, because they are immune to the jump, so you have to spam secondary weapon attack against them.
I want to finish the game, but nothing about it is really exciting. Wish I had a better idea how far through I am, but I guess it can't really tell me that, b/c it's kind of non-linear now. Since I activated one lock already, safe to assume I'm probably at least close to halfway done.
EDIT: Killed the Empress, with the most wonderful glitch: I tried using my "temporarily speed up to deal ton of damage" power, and she tried to "cancel" it or smth.... and somehow, the Prince ended up stuck in this "Flash Mode". I was able to kill her without taking any more damage, which was pretty wonderful, as otherwise that fight would've just been a very tedious and repetitive "hit her 2-3 times and then dodge far away" affair, chipping away at her enormous health bar.
Game's not over yet, but hopefully there's not much left.

Oh, wonderful. One of my Death Row inmates turned out to be a Cop Killer, so when he kicked off my guards beat him to death. Somehow it didn't count as a major incident so my cashflow wasn't destroyed at least.
Also had another con come in to replace a released medium security with the Deadly attribute. Straight into SuperMax with you.

Nearly caved and bought AC Odyssey, despite knowing I couldn't finish it before Red Dead comes out. It's so tempting!
To punish myself I finally started up The masta' piece Knack (baby!). Knack sure is punishing for a game stylised like a mascot platformer. Had to go back and restart the game on easy because I just knew I'd have an aneurism later on if the difficulty ramps up.
For a game that was meant to be a graphical showcase at the PS4 launch, Knack hasn't aged well but it is entertaining. The gameplay is very bare bones however the actual fighting feels good. The punching animation and the feeling of the impact is phenomenal.

Decided to sort out my games cupboard the other day and found - to my horror - that I no longer seem to have my copy of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for GameCube. I've no idea what happened to it. Can't believe I gave it away.
Anyhoo, after searching the internet and finding out how rare and expensive it now is (cheapest I saw was £125 . . . just NO!) I decided, for the first time ever, to try emulation. I downloaded the Dolphin emulator and within an hour I was playing Path of Radiance on my pc
