I have no games! I finished AC Origins and Wolfenstein II so I'm at a bit of an impasse. Have a bunch of old consoles and games that I think I'll take to Cex and trade them all in for something. Any suggestions? Haven't played Shadow of War yet.

God of War? Yakuza Zero? Monster Hunter World?

I was playing through Shadow of War with a friend but we stopped half way through. The game was too long and over elaborate. I plan to play through it myself once I've made my way through some more PS4 exclusives but I think the game is more of a podcast game than something you really get invested in.

Finished Wolfenstein 2. Great shooter, less satisfying story this time around. It felt more like episode 2 of an HBO show and less like a great individual story. Too much retreading of the plot from the last game.

On the other hand that game has some truly amazing, must see moments. There's some unbelievable shit that goes down in that game.

Spoiler

Also been playing more Horizon. The game gets better and better. One thing I have noticed is that the story so far is by the books Young Adult hero coming of age stuff. That's not bad in and of itself, it just makes the events very hoaky.

Played some more Horizon today.

I am now a seeker and free to go exploring on the larger map. I hunted some new robots, climbed a tallneck map thingy, helped a psychopath stalk and kill a bandit camp. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Playing this now makes me think that maybe Horizon was the better open world games the year Breath of the Wild came out.

Compared to Ubisofts farcry and AC franchises, Horizon really makes you wonder what the fuck Ubisoft have been working at all these years when a first person shooter studio comes out and makes something that seems like a whole different console generation ahead of Origins.

Oh man. If you only knew what's ahead. Damn, I wish I could experience Horizon Zero Dawn for the first time. Lucky!

Weren’t you just asking about Uncharted...play, have fun

I was asking if they are worth getting. I've probably only got time for one more have before the baby comes so I want it to be a good one!

God of War seems like a good shout based on how many people loved it.

Apt: yes, that ending was just as insane as the rest of the game and the sound the axe made going in her head was gross but quite satisfying!

I still can't pull myself to be interested in HZD.

Playing Blazblue Cross Tag Battle at the moment and Ruby is FUCKING DISGUSTING. What the hell is her 5b, it has the range of Ragna's godleg but it's like 5 frames or faster. And the hitbox extends behind her? VILE.

I finished Brood War, and somehow found myself 5 scenarios into Wings of Liberty on Hard.

The pace feels... kinda insane. It's prettier, but I barely have time to see individual zerglings before they go squish. I'm not sure I like the less durable everything.

Also, any type of defense mission is... well,
hard , lol

Gonna slow down on this though, and finally try to get into Alpha Protocol replay seriously, though.

Killed the Overmind. After a last-ditch sneaky win on Shakuras having run out of resources, killing the Overmind on Char was a cakewalk. The UED and Zerg were well entrenched, but they gave me plenty of time to tech up and expand before their attacks got serious, so it was always just a matter of grinding their defenses down. It also helps that this map had way more resources.

Only 3 missions to go (including the secret one)

That's damn impressive - I've always found that map more of a slog than anything Bakker could come up with (Defilers vs Zerg are nightmarish).

RE WOL - I think the 'lings have the same HP as before, 35?

@Cause It doesn't appeal. Sell it to me. I'm pretty bored of open world sneaky shooty stealthy archy stuff, and the game doesn't really have any draw to me.

Comparing HZD to Borderlands? I'm offended on HZD's behalf :)

Needed a change after finishing the main story of AC Origins so I've finally returned to Dishonored. I say finally because I originally bought it in the Steam Christmas sale in 2012, played it for four hours before I broke my wrist (not whilst playing the game!), which kind of put a stop to my gaming for a while. Since then I kind of developed an aversion to first-person games, so I never went back to it, but all the talk about Cyberpunk made me think I should start getting back into them a little, even after my failed attempt with Borderlands 2 a few months back. Have to say I'm rather enjoying it so far, although my approach of stealth killing everyone (blink plus shadowkill was just too hard to resist) is going to backfire on me in the end, from what I've heard Posted Image

Don't worry about the chaos system. Everybody is a garbage human in the Dishonored games. Better to kill them all just to be safe.

That was my thinking. Plus hiding bodies is a bit too time-consuming (and not very much fun), even if I do end up single-handedly start the zombie apocalypse.

That's my philosophy too.

Though that's mainly because I am so terrible at the stealth in those games.

I'm not gonna say it was easy- enemy counters cause many a save/load whenever I couldn't execute an attack just right

But overall, defending was easier (sunken colonies with a few lurkers mixed in; a stack of hydras Nydus-hopping b/w expansions; packs of lings burrowed in spots favored by siege tanks)

There were also 2 plentiful "free" expansion sites, plus 2 small enemy bases on the starting island to make sure you don't run out of resources.

Biggest enemy threat were combined packs of mutas, valkyries and guardians. But stacks of mutas and devourers doing focus-fire could handle those (and I could always get some emergency scourge for good measure)

Then it was just a matter of taking each enemy expansion, carpet-bombing with guardians while the muta/devourer stack is on standby, with a 'ling pack ready to jump in once bulk of defenders are dead for quick demolition, and a pack of hydras patrolling and intercepting any counter/reinfoircements.

Take enemy base, set up resources, build defenses. Rinse, repeat until the last island.

I'm not saying it was quick (took me better part of a day). But compared to trying to attack Protoss on Shakuras with no air units, it WAS easy, because there were much simpler tactics available.

It is not assassins creed, It is not sneaky shooty stealthy stuff. You are armed with a bow. You will fight Robot Dinosaurs. This would be hard enough but they are robot dinosaurs with weapons. So you first kill a robot elk, that is a robot that harvests grass and turns it into a bio fuel. Kill enough and you can then use its carcass skin and bio fuel to make arrows that explode. Now you need to fight a robot brontosaurus which is like a bio fuel oil tanker that can breath fire, luckily you just fashioned explosive arrows which make its biofuel tanks vunrable. After you kill it you can harvest its robot heart which will be a valuable item to trade at the market place to buy yourself a rope caster. That rope caster will be vital if your going to tie down giant thunder eagles so you can kill them and harvest their parts to make shock arrows. Shock arrows are good for killing giant T-rex killing machines! This is the gameplay.

The gameplay is just the road that interconnects one of the best written stories in gaming of all time. You will become attached to the main character and care about the story. Insomniac games basically slapped ubisoft across the face and said 'this is how you make open world games'

Correction: Guerilla games.

HZD is one of the like half a dozen games that make me muse about considering of getting a Playstation at some point in the distant future.
(Others include Bloodbourne, Shadow of the colossus, God of War, possibly the 2 upcoming titles (Tsushima and Spider-man), and the Gravity Rush games
Edit: Then again, controllers... ugh.
