Gerard Butler as Stannis

Could be fun.

edit. appears that someone did some trolling.
http://winter-is-coming.net/

UPDATE on fake IMDb casting: We have to address the issue of a prank that has gained track and triggered reactions cropping up left and right. Similar to the fake Catelyn casting for the pilot, someone has listed Gerard Butler as Stannis on IMDb. If the listing was for the next season, fine … I would never believe it, but it could make for a fun discussion, and I agree with FaBihoff here that it might spur HBO to release the real name sooner. However, Butler is said to appear in the final episode tonight, and we know that GRRM has been viewing Stannis audition tapes for season two. It’s completely fake, people, someone is messing with the fans. Don’t give them the satisfaction

I can't believe it. There's no way Gerard Butler would decide to go into acting, after having such a successful career in whatever it is he does now.

Anyone with an idea if there's a website where you can watch GoT finale live? In other words, can I watch HBO somewhere online?

Nope, not that I know of. File-sharing blogs and torrents are pretty much the best bets for non-subscribers (though torrents for HBO stuff are kinda risky) and those tend to get the episodes around 10:30 EST.

Guessed as much, seems I'll have to wait until I wake up then. Hopefully the black man releases his review immediately after watching the show so I have 2 hours of epicness to look forward to.

Watched it live.

Fucking fantastic. up to and including the final pyre/dragon hatching scene. LOVED the effects on the dragonette's! My other fave bits, meeting Hot Pie, Jaquen Hagar et al.....but mostly Jon Snow's friends saving him from going AWOL by reciting the oath around him, then having the Lord commander organize the Nights Watch to head out north.

Agree with all of the above. The dragonette's.... I need to watch again. It just wasn't quite how I pictured it from the book, but that's not to say it wasn't good.

The Night's Watch oath and the whole concluding sequence to that arc with Mormont's voiceover were the highlights for me.

THOSE DRAGONS LOOKED SO GOOD. DAMN. SO GOOD.

Also, when Arya was walking past the cage, were the two guys in it supposed to be Rorge and Biter? Because I saw neither filed teeth nor a face with no nose... Also, was there a third guy in the back of the cage who was cloaked and hooded? I couldn't tell on my TV (I assume that if it was, it was supposed to be Jaqen, but since he's not cast yet, they couldn't show a face).

First episode where I was mostly meh. An awful, awful lot of set-up for season two/book two in this episode.

Good:

"King in the North!"
Jon being taken back to Castle Black
Sanya thinking about tossing Joffrey
Joffrey as an absolutely heartless and cruel bastard.
Dragons
Varys and Peter's duel the secondeth.

Bad:

Right... I really don't like Shae. Like... on a gut visceral level I do not like her. I'm not sure why either. I know lots of other people do, but this is my list. :apt2:
Set-up, set-up, set-up... and some more set-up for season two/book two.
Robb beating the shit out of a tree with a sword. I get the frustration and despair and seething anger they are going for... but beating a tree with a sword? Go beat the fuck out of Jaime like your mom, Robb.
Rickon sharing Bran's power? Nope, don't like it.
No mention, at all, of Riverrun other than by Tywin. Right, fuck the Riverlands. Who needs 'em, anyway?

Neutral:

Part of me likes Tywin's acknowledgment of Tyrion... the other half thinks, "nah, he hates Tyrion."
Cersei responding to Jaime being captured... by going back to immediately fucking Lancel? That started already?
Pycelle being spry master actor.... I thought Varys had that one covered already? Guess not.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I did not. Havent' read GoT for years. Skipped it and went straight to Clash (it's the only one I own anymore). Still, Rickon has true dreams too is what it's implying isn't it? And yet, that never happens again in the book from what my obviously shoddy memory can't recall.

Saw it. Have to give them credit for creating sheer epicness (yes, that's a word) without actually having a single fight in the episode.

The AWESOME...

Jon's entire sequence was nicely done, right up to Mormont taking the Night's Watch out. I really really liked his point about the war over who is King being LESS important.

Nice touch having Rickon and Shaggydog in the crypt. Added a good level of creepy to that scene.

THE KING IN THE NORTH was exactly as awesome as it needed to be.

Cat needed to hit Jaime in the head a few more times with that rock.

I really REALLY enjoyed the sequence with Sansa considering throwing Joffrey from the bridge. Have to give the actress credit she's OWNING that role.

Dany's whole bit with the pyre was nicely creepy and desperate. The dragons fulfilled my expectations and the hiss/roar was a nice touch.

Enjoyed Tywin's exchange with Tyrion. So much subtext at work there. Tyrion steals the scene yet again.

The LESS than awesome...

What was the point of the Maester Pycelle/Roz scene?

Or Varys and Littlefinger's chat, which was, while clever, basically the same conversation they've had at least twice already.

I suppose these amounted to closure for those characters' for the season, but they seemed unnecessary.

A finale Renly scene would have been useful.

Overall, a rock solid ten eps and i am so very excited for next season. HBO gets my dollars for this show.

i donno, i loved the scene with catelyn and robb, the raw emotion in his expression when he looks at her is almost frightening. are you sure you're not some kind of lawyer-cyborg HD?

a small thing that i thought was brilliantly done, was to have the removal of the bards tongue happen blurred out in the background. juxtaposing that with joffrey's attitude toward sansa was chilling. really reinforces joffreys assholery.

and of course FUCK YEAH DRAGONS!!!!

i liked how the green one her lap is kind of indistinct at first, and you're like, wait a minute... no... no those can't be, and then the black one peeks over her shoulder and you're like, oh fuck yeah, those are DRAGONS!! AWWWW YEEEEEAAAHH!

so, uhh, when does season two start? :apt2:

Oh, the emotion was great, and I know what they were going for with it. But, using a tree as stand in for "Lannister X" when you have Jaime not so far away just had me thinking... dude, fuck the tree. Go beat the shit out of the Kingslayer!
