Have quickly looked through the photos - need to whittle them down to a good selection but the whole gamut of BBQ activities appears to be covered I think... Probably try and get something uploaded this evening

Mez's reaction to that pic was the best: "I can't look at it any more, the anus is winking at me!"
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Survived today's shift at work, just. Man, I was rough. Who the fuck invented 2-day hangovers??? ;)

It was a fab night, thanks everybody.

Big thankyou's to Mal and Hetan, you're great hosts and lovely people. A huge thankyou to Couger for getting me there and Fid for the lift (most of the way) home. I did eventually get there. Had to stop by the local 1st and sink a couple of Stellas to try and get somewhere close to feeling normal.... it didn't work.... =(

It was great to see the people I'd met before again and to meet some new ones. Alt146 and Altlady, Silencer, Messremb, Toby, Mac. and Illy and others. Illy, I've never seen anyone eat that much chicken... ever... It's hard to find a superlative for it that fits.

Finally, a massive shout out to Paleman. You sir, are an absolute legend. Thank you so much for the t-shirt. I owe you mate. I hope to see you again sometime and repay your kindness.:p

Yet another great BBQ courtesy of the amazing hosts that are Bill and Hazel. It was great to see so many familiar faces once again and also a few new ones. George Sengar - it's a pleasure mate; glad you liked the t-shirt.

Huge thanks to Dags for the Austrian cigarettes - I can't believe I smoked so much during our weekend there. Along with the copious amounts of alcohol consumed my mouth tasted like the cotton gusset of a sumo-wrestler's jockstrap. ;)

Hope you're all recovered from the excesses of the weekend.

Cheers.

I'll post a more extensive thank you after I've had a good nights sleep!

I'm recovering slowly - Cougar is still here. My liver currently is emitting pangs of protest but I think my sore throat is easing off - not sure if that was from the aquavitt, the singing or the ice water - but probably a combination of all three. Fleetwood Mac will never be the same again!

Huge thanks to all who travelled here - you are all heroes in my eyes - huger thanks to fid for the bbq wrangling and also the photo slideshow etc.
Ice bucket bobbing is now the current party game for the fearless - try it, it's remarkably refreshing after a skinful of alcohol.

Also Mezla's floor show was hilarious - bending over and slapping her own ass - epic. Never seen a girl so happy to have found a pair of bright blue plastic pond-waders ;)

Given the hangovers walking around in the morning I imagine other people didn't like it much either. You were awake in an amazingly short time though, I don't think I've ever seen anyone go from unconscious on the floor to bolt upright so fast.

A massive thanks from us must go to Hetan and Mal for an excellent weekend. Great hosts, the BBQ-master, biltong and to everyone I've met before and those I've not.

I'll make a note to bring more alcohol next time but no chicken. No-one should have to see Illy devouring so much. I saw a newspaper on the drive home with the headline "Mysterious Chicken Shortage in Cambridgeshire" and sped up just a bit when I noticed the feathers still protruding from his mouth.

Safely in Edinburgh with enough time to say a few words. Massive thanks to Bill and Hazel for the accomodation and hospitality, you guys are just amazingly nice and really made us feel at home. Cougar and Mac were great company on a surprisingly hangover-free Sunday (hair of the dog baby), even if Mac is a giant Irish douchewobble for dropping an umbrella full of water on my head. The Palemans are indeed legends, thanks again for the book. Please let us know next time you have a stopover in Jozi, it would be great to see you again. The same goes for you Fid, who was a braaimaster extraodinaire. Everyone else who was there was also fantastic company, I'm pretty sure I managed to have a decent conversation with all the other guests - if any of you can overcome your fear of the four tiny spiders that might harm you (the last news report says three of them have been safely contained in Ellisras), you're welcome to let us know when you're in our part of the world and partake of our cheap beer and plentiful sunshine.

Personal best moment of the BBQ: Watching the hope die in Mac's eyes as he utters in disbelief: "What do you mean drop bears aren't real?"

Pics (mainly of the icescepades) to follow in a while.

So the big cat left us just over an hour or so ago and I have had time to engage brain a little. I am still surprised at the lack of Sunday morning hangover in spite of consuming vast quantities of red wine to keep Mezla company and a drop or two of aquavitt.

So in no particular order but just by way of rounding things off :-

1. Fid - you were epic - thank you so much for the help - the wine was also awesome as I'm sure Mezla will testify. Thanks also for the cd with the bbq montage from previous years.

2. Mr & Mrs Paleman - also awesome - thanks Sandra for all your help, I know you weren't feeling too good and Maccy's big mouth kept you awake all night, but it's always a pleasure to see you both. Yeah you left your sausage (Biltong?) chopper here - we'll have to work out how you want me to get it back to you? Glad you could stay over this time too.

3. Alt146 & the lovely Altessa - absolute pleasure to meet you both. I hope you can make it another time and best regards to the Hirsute one - I won't ban him quite yet for not making it this year as his absence was ameliorated by your presence. We definitely need more SA'ers at the party.

4. Was a pleasure to meet Silencer finally and I can only apologise for not spending more time with you - too many people to get round - too much red wine - too much ice bobbing.

5. Maccy as always - good fun to spend time with you even if I only understand one word in every ten - best of luck on your trip mate and watch out for the drop bears - don't listen to Alt - they are out there and waiting for you.

6. Illy's chicken eating feats have been well recorded already - however I would like to record for posterity that Illy remained upright, didn't throw up or fall asleep by 8pm. Staunchly there until the end of the proceedings and Excaliburger is already a legend here.

7. Cougar - I blame you, basically for everything - end of story.

8. Best thing I heard all weekend - Mezla - "I'm only going to drink red wine because I don't think I will get so drunk!"

9. It was a pleasure to meet Messremb again and he was brave enough to bring along the future Mrs Messremb who was brave enough to come. I don't think we frightened her at all which is a good thing and look forward to meeting her again at future bbq's.

10. Dag, as always - thank you for the choccies - we have enough here to give a small heart attack if consumed all at once. I hope you and Stone Monkey have a great and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing your pics as an when you get back and have time to post.

11. IH, STD - you guys turn up year after year and have the dubious pleasure of watching everyone around fall into drunken chaos. I don't know why you do it (I'm sure it gives you a lot of laughs) but it's always great to see you - and thanks again for the extra ice - just what we needed for the beer can bobbing - you must be psychic - or should that psychotic?

12. George Sengar - glad you finally made it down. Enjoyed your company at Manchester and look forward to our next meeting. I hope you enjoyed it mate!

12. I must also thank Mal, whose patience is not legendary, but he gets up to make sure everyone has coffee, clears up the left over mess, has a good time, re-lights the bbq and is an expert at cold beer wrangling.

13. Toby - I am impressed - I didn't think you were going to make it - but you hung in there like a Bridgeburner in reverse - last in.. and it wouldn't have been the same without you.

14. Finally many thanks to Bubba for the cake - there are photo's somewhere - they sniffed it out even though I tried to hide it from 'em ;)

I love you'se guys - let's do it again next year?

After last year's posts from alt on "The Rules of the Braai" that is sufficient. Respect.

And now to photos... Note there are more...many more. They will form part of the soundtrack of our lives once a full set is available - maybe in the 5 year BBQ compilation

Yeah man it's been too long since I've seen those of you I know (except for the very brief round of hellos at the book signing in Manc...)
