Got out of the Painted World. That was a rough basement segment there until I figured out where everything was by trial and error. Lost something like 60k souls down there cumulatively.

Once I got out, I went farming and got the Poisonbite ring on the side. It's okay. Not the greatest thing ever. It did lead to me killing someone in Blighttown who just randomly attacked me with weak-ass Pyro (I'd gone back down there to upgrade my Flame to +15 from +11, so I had 80k+ souls from farming and didn't half-fuck around in killing anyone trying to stop me). I think it was the dude who initially sold me Pyro stuff until Quelaag's sister popped up. Why did he disappear from Firelink to get so close to her, the upgrades and then go nuts before upgrading anything? This game is weird as hell sometimes.

Wish I'd gotten the Lightning defense one - I only had enough souls when I ran into the guy selling them somewhere in Sen's Fortress to get the Fire defense one.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

It's funny, I was very, very frustrated with Sen's Fortress at first. But now, I can probably run through it in about 8 minutes back to front. I did lose a couple humanities when I was playing around with the swinging blades and enemies though.

Some of the npcs go Hollow. When they do, they turn hostile and leave firelink, so you can't buy from them anymore. The first guy there goes to New Londo.

Amp, the fireplate ring is in Sens, but its free, in a chest. You can also free Logan, who sells awesome spells.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Have you found your way up to the raven by firelink yet?

Before I even entered the undead burg I did a little exploring, I found that Raven, almost killed it but it flew away. Then I got hacked down by a bunch of skeletons in the Graveyard. I was a fresh player and didn't have the skillz to beat those guys.

I had a very busy weekend so I did not get to play this as much as i'd like. I was in a different city, craving Dark Souls. When I got back I decided to explore Darkroot Gardens a little before taking on the Capra Demon again. I've decided I need to level up whatever helps my composure when hit.

Do you mean poise? If you search the Gardens, there's a Wolf Ring which boosts poise. Otherwise you need to enhance an armor set with high poise - it will stop you getting knock-back.

The Ravens nest is up on a wall in Firelink. If you stand in the nest, and curl up, the Raven will fly you to the Asylum, where you started the game. It has a new boss and the Rusted Ring, which lets you move through water without slowing you down. Good for the swamp and the Hydra fight.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah I am going for that ring, so that when I go and face the Capra Demon again and he tries to hit me and I block I won't be getting hit by the second attack.

I wondered how people got back to the Asylum. There are so many ways in which to go. How do you level up slower but get better stats?

You get far better stats spending souls on good armor imo. Buy titanite shards, and large shards from the guy at top of Sens fortress. If you've got heavy stuff, level endurance to move while wearing it.

So I should not be spending souls on my body un less Endurance?

I have done it in such a way that everything is 16 except for Intelligence which is 18 at the moment.

I have not used any souls on my armour. Or got Heavy Soul Arrows yet. How do I get an extra magic missile? Like fire or ice? I only have soul arrows at the minute.

It all depends on what build you want for your character. For the big swords you'll need high strength and endurance, which means you can carry heavier armor, and increases the green stamina bar.

The best, powerful spells need high Intelligence and Attunement.

You have to choose though, if you don't specialise and put points into everything, you might end up not being able to use big weapons or spells. So if you're not using miracles, don't waste points on faith. It's not like skyrim where you can do everything.

You can increase resistances and defences loads with armor, while concetrating you're levelling into the specific area you want. For example, to carry lots of powerful spells, you might want 50 int. But if you have that, you won't be able to swing the Demon Greataxe, which requires a strength of 50.

I was looking at what gets increased, but I hear what you are saying. If I put soul into weapons and armor I do not have to level up. That is good to know.

Yep. Turning good armor to +5 will give you an instant massive defence bonus.

I'm just playing as a mage for the first time, so not sure which is best. I've just got the gold hemmed stuff which is pretty good, but I prefer the look of my original sorcerers robes. There's some black sorcerers robes in Sens Fortress that I've yet to try, I'll have a look for them later.

I'd say that as a mage, I'm keeping really light and avoiding getting hit at all, so I can put everything into spell power.

If you have it, I'd boost the Black Leather set to a high degree. Then later, get the Gold Hemmed set Traveller is talking about.

If you don't have the Black Leather, put in a little bit into the regular Leather or Bandit set.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Yeah, it is. If you can find the upgrades to that or just rock that with a +5 Black Leather gloves, that's good stuff.
