The black sorcerer set isn't much really, not as good as the gold hemmed robes.

I just freed Logan and bought the Soulspear spell, and still got completely thrashed by the Stray Demon. It takes a while to learn it's moves, and it sure doesn't give you much time to do anything but dodge.

That's the first boss that as a mage has got me that wound up. I thought it would be easy with a few heavy spells, but nooo.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Stray Demon is always a hit or miss for me. Lately I've been killing him on the first or second try, but I've had a few playthroughs when it's taken me 5 or 10 tries. I find him to be the most difficult out of the 2 others like him that you fight (Asylum and Firesage). The amount of maneuvering room you have is really minimal, especially given the range of his axe. As a result, I find it best to get up close and personal as a mage. Forget any heavy spells - use Soul Spear and Greater Soul Arrow. When you're up close, you can roll behind his attacks, plus it'll make him do his butt smash occasionally which gives you a free attack or two.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

Haaaah, the last thing I did in Dark Souls tonight was to go and kill the Stray Demon.

I bought Fall Control and went in with my biggest sorceries equipped in my other three spaces. Died and died and died and died and died.

So I decided to try and plink it with poison arrows after falling. Triggered attacks and died.

So I tried to dung pie it. Worked. The pies eat like 3/4s of its health if you toss 4 or 5 at it and then the beastie is killable by an unskilled sorcerer/melee mix like me.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Yep, Fall Control, soul spear, and 2 other types of soul arrow.

Totally forgot about the dung pies though.

I just remembered to not use lock on - ran round to his back and kept moving, locking on only to fire spells. Soulspear is good, but you only get four so I had to use my other soul arrows too.

But yes, you have to get close, but not too close. I haven't died so much in the entire game as I did in that fight.

Keep trying. Its different each time you go through,so you have to adapt within the few seconds you have. If you block the first dog attack, and roll or run around without locking on, you should be able to get up the stairs.. running and rolling, as the dogs will be on your heels! I got onto the ledge, turned, blocked, and killed both dogs with a sword, hitting the wall too.. a spear might be better. Then I could target Capra.

Just keep at it, it's a pain but do-able.

Did you free Griggs the sorcerer yet? He sells the heavy soul arrows. He's in a house on the street at the opposite end to the capra door. (You can buy the residence key from the undead merchant.)

I'm going to buy that key tonight and get those arrows.

It's scary this game. I cannot play it for long periods of time. I just get freaked out. I want to play it all the time but then I play it and need a rest.

I freed him. Where is he selling? I also did the stingray frog things and a few of those statues. Gollum? I have just saved enough to buy the key from the blacksmith. I have not faced the capra demon yet but got the wolf ring, and I think i'll attempt him tonight. I forgot to equip armour and stuff when fighting things and I was dying a lot.

Also I know I'm going slow. I'm not rushing it, I take my time in each section. I don't want the game to end ^_^)

It's worth taking it slow as you'll find the hidden stuff. Not all the barrels are empty! There are crystal lizards too - usually you first see them running away, but if you don't catch them before they burrow into the ground, they'll respawn after a bonfire visit. (They drop varying types of titanite).

Griggs will go to firelink once freed, like other npcs. Walk around a bit and you'll find him.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I have not been back to Firelink since entering the Undead Burg.

If you freed the sorcerer and the pyromancer they will be there. You can farm souls in the forest so you can buy them, and upgrade the pyro flame if you get it.

Im gonna go back to fireshrine. Is the pyromancer the guy you free in the sewers? Otherwise i havmt come across him yet. Gonna train in the forest tonight i think and sink some souls into my armour and that. Probably stick with the gold robes.

How do you equip the heavy soul arrows? I've purchased them but I'm not able to use them

While sitting at a bonfire, choose to attune magic. You can assign your spells, depending on the number of slots you've got.

Why cant the smith upgrade my gold robes and should i clear out the forest demon behind those big doors before going through the big two bells door. That would leave the fire demona and the hydra before i go through the main quest gates sort of thing

I know, he reminds me of the sort of thing you might find in zelda, but.. real. I love the way he climbs over the stone and looks down, and you think, oh, a wolf. Then he picks up that sword.

I tried to upgrade my gold-hemmed stuff too, and couldn't - there are some sets that can't be upgraded though. You get the set of Gwyn, the final boss, which I really liked but it couldn't be upgraded. The gold-hemmed stuff has good stats, but I don't like the look of it much so I'm now wearing the Black sorcerers robe and gloves, +2 Black leather trousers.

My wizard doesn't do hats.

Oh, I bought the soulmass spell. It's pretty good for taking out the guys in the forest, but you can't use it near any walls or anything, and sometimes they fire a bit late or not at all, for some reason, I joined the Chaos covenant, which has given me Chaos Fireball for free - 'cause you've gotta have some fire.

Edit - Don't even go near the fire demon in the Demon Ruins yet. That's best left until you've done Sens Fortress, and Anor Londo. At least.

I want me some fire!!

The last thing I did before turning off was attuning my magic, I want to face the Capra Demon again and he scared me and I died. I haven't faced him loads, about 5 times so far and not in a row, I just don't like entering his lair!
