Play around with what weapon you use to find movesets you like, then upgrade the hell out of those weapons.

I've never used a Homeward Bone in my games. The slog is the slog. No weepers on the slog.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Its just an easier way. Its not like it effects anything and the grind is still there. Ive used 2 bones i think. A greatsword should be ok for large horizontal slashes.

Aren't you using a sorcerer build so far though? The greatswords need a ton of strength, and endurance to keep swinging and blocking.

I just killed the Hydra, and got a ring that halves HP but increases the quantity of spells held. So I have 16 heavy souls arrows instaed of 8, 30 great souls arrows, and I don't know how many regular soul arrows. Also killed the gold crystal golem behind it, and bought the Cast Light spell from Dusk of Oolacile.

With the lightest armor ever and the dark wood grain ring, I was running rings around the golems; back-flipping all over and casting. So I went up to the Moonlight Butterfly, and killed it with about 4 heavy soul arrows. Those Stone Giants are down in one hit too - nothing like the battles I had with them as a knight.

Don't know what to do with the Butterfly Soul though - it can be made into a spear thing or a shield that fires projectiles instead of parrying.

I dont know what to do with the soul either. As for greatsword maybe so i might just doublehand my longsword for now. I have no idea how to kill the hydra. Im still in blight town but wouldnt mind finding a way out to new londo like that alternative path i found by the valley of the drakes.

You could feed it to Frampt (I believe he gives you more souls for that particular Boss soul than if you consume it yourself) if you don't want either weapon.

The spear is pretty nice as a sorcerer, I really like it. It has a good reach and B intelligence scaling. The shield is nowhere near as useful in my opinion, although it does have the highest magic resistance of any shield in the game. Makes it useful for a few select enemies, such as those annoying casters in Duke's Archives. Otherwise it's not great as it only has like 70 or 75% damage resistance, so it's terrible for blocking melee.

Losing a large amount of souls sucks your first time through. My best advice for Blighttown is to take things slow and always have your shield up. Also, be sure you have some purple moss clumps to heal poison/toxin. As for your weapon, it's all about preference. The nice thing is that all materials can be farmed, so if you come to like a different weapon later on it's okay if you've spent some materials upgrading other things. I'm not sure what your stats are, but there's the Zweihander in the graveyard and the Claymore under the Hellkite Dragon (red dragon) that are both pretty good.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

For the Hydra - Kill the Golems first. If you're careful you can get the Hydra to do it for you, if you dodge behind rocks and trees - they follow in a big bunch and get hit. Once they're gone, you have to get down to the lake fast. There's some cover on the right that helps, but weave and run until you get to the lake edge. There's a ledge in the water which you don't want to fall off, but get close to it, and the Hydra stops firing watergun blasts, and starts throwing it's heads at you instead.

You can then use arrows, or hack at each head as it comes near, making sure you avoid the ledge. If you go too far back, it will fire at you again, but if you stay in the water close to the ledge it doesn't bother. I just fired magic when the heads were in the way, then took out the last 3 with a sword. If you're melee the Rusted Ring helps, as it allows you to walk in the water without slowing your movement, but I didn't use it this time.

I'm about level 31 now I think.

(If you're at the bottom of Blight Town, in the Swamp, you could always try the Boss - she's down a tunnel halfway up the big mound at one end).

It's a hell of a lot easier when you know where you're going, and what's waiting for you.

Blight town is horrible, anyway. Best route is through the Drake valley entrance, then straight down the ladders, and onto one of the decending platforms on the timber wheel, which takes you down to the swamp. I got killed once by those flies, as I was rushing, but still, it was way quicker than the path past the dogs and snipers.

(Have you got the Drake Sword? It's easy to get early on, and does about 200 damage without any enhancing. It's great to start with, but other weapons are better later on in the game as they scale with your stats, while the Drake Sword can only be upgraded to +5 using dragon scales, to do a max of 400).

No Drake sword for me.

Im on my laptop now rather than my phone so youll have to excuse my previous spelling which is awful. Anyway im stuck getting past the fire breathing dogs and the souped up zombies and the ever present sniper fire. Working my way down is very difficult but I have no idea how to get back out to then go through the Drake Valley and come down that way. Im stuck just making my way down. My stats are Intelligence 35 vitality, attunement, endurance at 25 or there about, then strength at about 10 I think. I think I need to sink some materials into my gear as given what Defiance said about farming making everything available im not so worried. Ill have to take them to the smith before the forest then?

Also how many people are there in that forest part? Whenever I farmed I kill the mage, assasin, cleric and that axe wielder by the talking cat that only gives one thousand souls but is by far the hardest to kill?

O guess I am shitter which is fine but hopefully im doing ok. I keep hoping for more bonfires but to no avail. Ill fell alot better when Blight town is out of the way and I can get back to the routes I know. Ill have a crack at the Hydra when I get out aswell.

I haven't run into the talking cat. Weird.

There's three or four bonfires within The Depths/Blighttown/the lower areas. Just be patient, figure out how best to cope with poison, the enemies and your own resources.

And yes, go to that smith in the spot before the forest to upgrade your stuff. You may also want to bump up your strength, so you aren't chipping away at every single bad guy.

There is a guy with a bow a bit further to the right in the forest - you get his bow when you kill him. There's also a knight using a fog spell like the assassin, but these two don't respawn like the others.

The talking cat, Alvina, is sitting on a window ledge on the left in the stone building behind the forest guy with the axe.

@ J-C VT.. you'll need much higher strength to use the bigger swords. Just holding them requires a min of 16. You have got quite high vitality though - you could leave that and boost strength and endurance if you want the nice weapons.

So its only the four guys who respawn then. Thats good. Gonna do blight town tonight gonna take it really slow rather than blitzin it. Ive just got no idea how to get down the the floor which i asume is the objective. Tried using that fall control and just jumping might try that again.

Some of the ladders are hard to find, but they are there.. there's a dodgy bit with some narrow hanging walkways that way too, you have to take really slow. There's a bonfire on the stone arch bit about halfway down. And an Eagle Shield if you can find it.

The first time through I took those blue stones you can drop to see if its safe. Fall Control is good, but if you can't see where you're falling, you'll probably die.

I died about three or four times with the hydra and that "hidden" cliff that you can drop off and die near where it is/was located.

Now back in Anor Londo, stepped into the painting and those fuckin' skeleton wheels are murderous. Straight up the scariest enemies in the game thus far. I can't use a spear cuz I can't see and I can't seem to block it enough with a Spider Shield +10 to ride out (although I haven't tried to just sit and ride the attack out).

They're nasty, especially when there's a group of them.

I'm going to head to Blight town, but I'm going to buy the anti-Poison ring from the guy in the Bell Tower before I go.

Does it work on toxic too? Cuz if so, I'll go back and get it.

No, it increases poison resistance by 400% though.

Armor has a big effect on resistance - the black leather is good I think.

So i had a wander around the blighttown and killed that spiderwoman thingy first time and rang the bell. Was that the main bell twinned with the gargoyle one? It opened the big door by the smith. If thats the main plot progress whats in the new londo and catacomb paths? Anyway that big fire monster thingy in the demons ruin is klling the shit out of me. I feel like im on a linear path. Is the water wheel out of blighown into the valley of the drakes? Fancy going back to the forest to train and farm armour items.

Just had a good bash... I killed Sif in the forest, which took a bit of doing as he's so fast; then used the souls to buy the poisonplate ring. Then went down the ladders to the swamp, and killed Quelaag. I went into the Demons Ruins too, only to collect the Gold Hemmed Black Robe set, which is pretty good sorcerer armor, but makes me look like a Nazgul.

And yes, the Ceaseless Discharge killed the hell out of me too. When I met it before, it did this big leap, and was hanging on to the cliff by one arm.. I hacked its arm, and it fell in the lava and died. Not this time though - it's just sitting there doing fireblasts.

Anyhoo, I went to Sens Fortress, and got to the top in one go... but when I went to roll onto the ledge with the bonfire on it, I rolled too far, and fell... a long way down. Un-feckin-believable. Took me a few more goes to get back up there, but I've now got the Fireplate ring, and bought the Thunderplate ring too for a certain boss battle later. Oh, and I killed the giant at the top who was chucking bombs over the side, 'cause you just have to really.

Weird how I got 40k souls for Sif, but only 20k for Quelaag? I suppose she was a lot easier - Sif was cutting me up something bad until I got a good roll-dodge-cast thing going.

Yes, if you go up the waterwheel and ladders, it takes about 3 mins to get out at the Valley of the Drakes. You can run past everything on the way too - but there are some changes back at Firelink if you rang the bell.

Go and have a go at Sif if you haven't yet, he's in the forest. Go into the bit where you farm, stick to the left, run through the stone building, and through the next bit of forest, keeping to the left until you reach the fog gate. Or, if you're in the swamp in Blight Town, check out the huge tree at the opposite end to Quelaag. There's an alcove in it up a root path with a secret wall; hit it and you get a tricky path down into Ash Lake. Or... climb up to the Ravens nest at Firelink, and let it take you back to the Asylum.

It is linear in a way, but you can choose which order you do all these things, or which to miss entirely.
