Who the hell needs a keyboard when reading a book anyway? That's what I never understood about the Kindle.
To find and order books. On the Kobo you have to scroll over to each letter (like in naming a character in a video game) and click to shop...meanwhile on the Kindle you just type it in. That's a big deal to me simply because if I am BUYING an e-reader...soemthing that will serve to make buying, storing and reading books easier...why would I skimp out and get the one that I can't easily type in a book title while shopping?
That said, if it weren't for that selling point I'd probably get a Nook....but as it stands I am looking at the Kindle 3G. I am likely going to drop the money down for this before I go away in April to the Caribbean, cause it's gonna be WAY easier to bring it on the plane and to the beach than a book.
Get a newer android phone. Get Kindle free. All phones either have a keyboard or touchscreen keyboard now.
That's what I'm doing at the moment. It works, but I still think I will get a kindle at some point for two reasons - screen size and battery life. Anything bigger than 4" or so isn't really practical for a phone and personally my 3.7" Desire is a tad small to read off of. Scrolling every 5 lines of text is a little annoying, although I must admit that the Kindle app's tap for next page is a lot more convenient than most other ereader software. Smartphones these days are also notorious for their poor battery lives - I can get two to three days on mine if I don't do too much with it, but constant reading takes that down to less than a day before I need to charge again. At the moment I've mainly been reading on my phone on my smoke breaks at work or for a couple of minutes before bed so it hasn't really been much of a problem, but for long trips or a holiday needing a charger handy all the time would be inconvenient.
Although if you do have a Froyo phone, you can save some money and just get the WiFi only kindle - just turn on your android hotspot and you've got the equivalent of a 3G kindle anyway
