Not e-Ink brother. That's my biggest selling point on e-readers....e-ink is the only way I will go and phone screens aren't...which is also the reason I won't get an iPad or the Sony reader.

Bleh. That's what my computer is for, since I'd rather have the file sitting on my hard-drive in case of any problems with the device itself

A good point. I suppose the keyboard is not a huge selling feature.

Leaning towards Kindle for the choice then. Chapters/Indigo's selection (and pricing) for the Kobo is poor at best. I MIGHT consider the Nook, but will probably go with the Kindle anyways.

eInk is the mutt's nuts Sony PRS350 and PRS650 are both eInk though, so don't count them out on that basis.

I thought the same thing, then I got a book on my phone I couldn't get anywhere else and... I love it. Of course my phone has the best screen technology there is, but still...

I have been avoiding getting a e-reader for years now, due to the fact that I love the feel and smell of books. However after reading some of your posts I decided to browse and look at the kindles on amazon. It was pretty sweet. The wife saw that I was interested and surprised me with a kindle for valantines day. It arrived on Saturday. I have already read the lies of Locke. Friggen sweet. I am totally in love with it.

I was wondering if any of you that have made the switch to an eBook reader have noticed an increase in your reading speed. It seems to me that I can read faster on my Nook than with a phyiscal book. I have not yet done an empirical study but it was observed by the fiancé that I read faster on the Nook.

That's what I'm doing at the moment. It works, but I still think I will get a kindle at some point for two reasons - screen size and battery life. Anything bigger than 4" or so isn't really practical for a phone and personally my 3.7" Desire is a tad small to read off of. Scrolling every 5 lines of text is a little annoying, although I must admit that the Kindle app's tap for next page is a lot more convenient than most other ereader software. Smartphones these days are also notorious for their poor battery lives - I can get two to three days on mine if I don't do too much with it, but constant reading takes that down to less than a day before I need to charge again. At the moment I've mainly been reading on my phone on my smoke breaks at work or for a couple of minutes before bed so it hasn't really been much of a problem, but for long trips or a holiday needing a charger handy all the time would be inconvenient.

Although if you do have a Froyo phone, you can save some money and just get the WiFi only kindle - just turn on your android hotspot and you've got the equivalent of a 3G kindle anyway

I have Sony PSR 600. No wifi but it can read DRM encrypted books and e-Pub which is nice. And I've got broad band at home which means I just have to plan a bit if I want to read a book that I havent downloaded yet. Works fine for me. I simply love my e-reader!

I am VERY close to pulling the trigger on a Kindle. I may even order one this weekend...so very tempted.

My gf and I will be moving in together soon and I should probably drop the cash before I have oodles of "house" stuff to buy.

Well I can't comment on other e-readers but I did get a Kindle for Christmas.

I was a little apprehensive about it as like some of you I love my books but I really don't think I would want to go back to books now I have a Kindle. I own quite a few books and I have slowly but surely been running out of space for my collection. Having 2 children will do that. I didn't want to give up reading but didn't have the space so an e-reader was the logical solution.

Why is the Kindle good then? Well Whispernet is definitely a pro. Not only can you get a book on the go but if your Kindles at home and you're not, you can logon to Amazon order a book and as long as your wireless is on it'll be on there waiting for you when you get home. I know I could just wait and buy it when I get home but this feature really does please me.

You've also mentioned about the Apps for the kindle. Something that I have on my X10. Another little perk is the fact it'll sync between your kindle and your App. So if I don't have my Kindle on me but have my phone I can go on it and be at the same page I finished off on my Kindle. Sometimes I think it's the little things that matter.

E-ink is also worth the money on it's own. I have to wear glasses to read and it's surprising how easy and pleasant it is to read off.

The kindle may not be the best out there. I haven't tried any other so cannot compare, but I would certainly recommend it as it has revolutionised the way I read and the ease of using it, buying books and it's battery life are all excellent.
