The P650 looks like a better ereader than the Kindle, but the $100 price between the Wifi kindle and the P650 makes a pretty compelling argument in the Kindle's favour
Even the pocket edition is still a fair bit more expensive then the kindle.

I don't want Wi-Fi on my ebook reader. The idea is to get away from the Internet, computer world and read a book. If I get Wi-Fi, I am going to find many reasons only check this one bit.
However, you are right, Kindle's price is much better. Though, after holding it in my hands a few days ago, I know why I pay more for Sony

I'm still considering getting the Sony - it's a toss-up between a better quality product and one that's significantly cheaper and has better international support. Although it seems waterstones doesn't sell outside the UK now either and the Sony store has not impressed so far. It's starting to seem like the kindle might be the only actual choice I have.

Got my Kindle for Christmas! Someone else got me a case to go with it, which makes it easier to hold, as on it's own it's pretty thin.
The Wi-fi/3G doesn't detract from the fact that it's a book, but it is nice to browse through the amazon collections without having to go to the pc.
So far I've downloaded a few free classics I've been meaning to read, and 'The Blade Itself''.
I also downloaded the newspaper on sunday, while I was showing it off to visitors who hadn't seen a kindle, and while the papers are generally overpriced and shorter, I got quite absorbed reading through the reviews section later on.
No problems with it so far, I like the layout, size and menus, and it's got everything else you could need like bookmarks and room for notes, without going overboard.

I just received a Nook Wi-Fi + 3G for a Christmas gift and I can say the only time I use the internet connection only when I'm shopping B&N's eBook store. All other times I have it in airplane mode which disables the Wi-Fi and 3G, so I don't thing that Wi-Fi is a draw back...

You are a very strong willed person

Unfortunately, I am not. For example I am reading His Dark Materials. I was very curious who are Tartars in the book. If I had an access to the Internet, I would definitely go to search and read about it and maybe follow another link and then just check my email...

I wouldn't call it strong willed... once I get into what I'm reading I completely check out physically and am totally absorbed in the story... stopping to look something up on the internet can happen after I've come to a good place to take a break.

What I'm waiting for is for distributors to stop being idiots with pricing.

On Amazon UK it costs £9 on the for the Kindle, and £12 for the paperback.
Which makes a lot more sense, even in dollars.

Chapters is pretty bad in terms of pricing in a lot of cases. I wouldn't shop there if I hadn't gotten gift cards.

I'm on my second book read on the Kindle now - Glen Cook's Black Company.
Absolutely loving the book, it's one of the closest things to SE I've read. I am, however, quite surprised at the sheer number of spelling and punctuation mistakes which seem to have occurred during the transfer to Kindle format though - there's loads.
The first book I read was 'Heartstone,' by C J Sansom. (If you haven't read any of the Shardlake books, I recommend them - crime/mystery set in Henry VIII's London).

I bought another kindle book for the android app from the US store instead of the african store, but this time I used a proxy when making the purchase. So far no email asking me for an American proof of residence like last time (and no FBI agents bursting through my Windows). Looks like the publishing restrictions are reasonably easy to get around, probably going to order myself a kindle before the end of the month.

Who the hell needs a keyboard when reading a book anyway? That's what I never understood about the Kindle.

To find and order books. On the Kobo you have to scroll over to each letter (like in naming a character in a video game) and click to shop...meanwhile on the Kindle you just type it in. That's a big deal to me simply because if I am BUYING an e-reader...soemthing that will serve to make buying, storing and reading books easier...why would I skimp out and get the one that I can't easily type in a book title while shopping?
That said, if it weren't for that selling point I'd probably get a Nook....but as it stands I am looking at the Kindle 3G. I am likely going to drop the money down for this before I go away in April to the Caribbean, cause it's gonna be WAY easier to bring it on the plane and to the beach than a book.
