Fast forwarding to the end of that art project vid (it's 8 hours long! Posted Image), reveals a pretty bitchin' completed work. I stalled out on watching the final season of the show Vikings, but seeing that makes me want to start it up again.Posted Image

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla eh. Great setting, but I'm not sure how it will work in the Assassin's Creed formula (though I suppose that has changed quite a bit in the past couple of games). Pretty much no verticality, or large populations to mingle through. The type of castle I saw in my brief glance at the image did not exist at the height of the Viking age, so maybe this will actually be set in a post-Viking world, after the Norman Conquest maybe.

There were leaks suggesting it's set during the time Norway was converted to Christianity. Large portions of the game take place in the British Isles, and between that and fjords, they'll have the verticality covered.

It's another installment in the RPG-lite mode, so my strong guess is this was done to take advantage of the other mythology we know loads about (the Norse). Egypt, Greek and Norse are generally the "go to" mythologies for game makers.

Not just the British isles but most of Northern Europe may be included, so it won't just be a bunch of long houses and earth wall fortifications.

Verticality hasn't been a big emphasis in the last couple of games. There's been semi large cities but besides fortresses and temples, everything is mostly one or two story buildings.

Rumors are this one will have a lot more 'divine' stuff, so I'd expect a lot of mini-games/puzzles with scaling into Aasgard, or wherever. Perhaps there is a so called 'demi-monde' that this AssassinsCreed will tap into, where you see a village normally then there's a whole mythical/ghostly build around/into the village from ghost and fey and their ancestors and stuff? I guess we'll see what its like with the reveal, because I agree, outside of the wilderness it'll be hard to build in much verticality.

I'm here for the ship combat though.

So the only Assassin-y thing there was the hidden blade.

I mean... it looked nice? The beards get top marks.

I never found it particularly easy to relate to characters whose driving moral imperative is "I want your stuff". It works for me in a stealth game, but in a combat-driven one? not so much.

EDIT: http://www.eurogamer...king-settlement

Looks like they are incorporating some more settlement management aspects into the RPG. Hmm.

When they made AC: Origins they should just have dropped the Assassin's Creed brand and spun it off into historical/mythological games.

Yeah, I get the feeling they've realized that and are trying it with Gods & Monsters. But AssCreed is too big a brand to just drop right now.

That's the key. The name brings in buyers. The game is hardly recognisable for large chunks of it to what it was but I know I'm willing to spend money on a new AC title. And with Vikings? Heck yes!

Was there ever an end game envisioned for Assassin's Creed when it begin? If so, they abandoned that some time ago. There really is not a whole lot that is 'assassin' about it now it seems. Mythology Creed or Our Take on History Creed would be a more apt name for the games now. The trailer was slick, but standard fare. Vikings, yes! I want! Will be playing.

Yeah, the whole Animus sections seems pretty much an afterthought in Origins and Odyssee. In Origins you just got to prance around a cave for a bit, in Odyssee we don't even really get that. Just a very occasional hop out of the game for the obligatory assassins vs templars arc and then it is back into the immersion. I assume the Cult of Kosmos are supposed to be Templars, but that is a stretch at best. Still highly enjoyable though, Odyssee absolutely rules as a game in itself. And if they want to sitck the AC label to it, that's fine by me, I probably wouldn't even have noticed/bought it otherwise. So it works.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

That's the news I wanted to hear. That cinematic trailer didn't tell us much. Gameplay is where it is at.

Cinematic trailer was pretty awesome, for a cinematic trailer.

I'm excited to see more and I hope they do have town/base building and stuff, I always love that kind of thing.

Okay, I'm going to make a prediction. One of the commercials that run to promote the game as the release date nears will feature Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin.

The Immigrant Song is about Iceland, not Norway though.

Iceland hasn't been discovered yet, I don't think.

Saw this:

"Sail across the icy North Sea to discover and conquer the broken kingdoms of England. Immerse yourself in activities like hunting, fishing, dice, and drinking games, or engage in traditional Norse competitions like flyting – or, as it's better known, verbally devastating rivals through the art of the Viking rap battle."

Viking rap battles... *mic drop.Posted Image

Also, read some analysis that stated it seems like the game will include a camp, hub like space à la RDR2. I get the feeling this game is going to be immense and will require beaucoup hours of play time.

The camp/homestead will be interesting. I liked that system in AC 4. I just hope, if they want us to care about our people and get immersed, that they put some effort into the NPC AI and the writing. They've tried with Odyssey but they're still far away from the best studios of the industry.
