Gesler would be my favourite so far and I hope he makes a re-appearance somewhere later in the books.

There are lots of obviously cool characters in it, Karsa and Rake. Of course how could they not be? I really do enjoy the chapters they are in.
As for Kallor, isn't it a great sign though that so many of you hate him? Means his character has been well written. What a deliciously evil bastard he is.
Have to agree with Nightchill on this one though the coolest ones are the regualr dudes. Paran, Toc and Whiskeyjack as well in MoI, in the whole series....Coltaine by far and away.
Though honourable mention for the combo of Bauchelain and Broach. What a whacky pairing.

You've got to love Cotillion, Dassem Ultor, Kallor as the top three.
Then Whiskeyjack and Adjutant Stormy next, Adjutant Stormy is a cult hero around where I come from
QB and Kalam are also incredibly good characters.

Cotillion is cool. I do like the apple eating scene..if you've read it you'll know what I mean. Certainly my favourite God/ascendant.
I have one friend who loves Iskarel Pust. Though he has a real penchant for insane characters. The donkey is an interesting aside....hmmm in fact so is Kruppes...I wonder is there a connection? Some sort of subversive underground, yet global network of conspiring donkeys with a vastly superior intellect that are merely biding their time...? I digress...

Favorite character of all time has got to be Cotillion. The idea that the worlds most dangerous assassin and right hand man of the emperor could survive government intrigue and ascendency with even a shred of humanity intact. Well I love it.
As for MOI I'd have to say Gruntle. His dialogue with Harllo and Stonny in the beginning of the book had me hooked, and then his badass transition to cold blooded killer. Perfectly executed. (Pun intended).

In MoI, I'd say Envy. She is ridiculously arrogant, and she doesn't even pretend to care. Anybody who will destroy an empire because she is slightly vexed has my respect.

Envy was also one of my favorite charcters in MoI, and probably the ascendant I like best, but for the opposite reasons.
I don't think she's arrogant, to be arrogant you need to know when you're being ignorant or patronizing. Envy is so removed from mortal understanding that she doesn't understand that people die when they're not able to destroy a city on a whim. I love how she almost scolded Picker for not saying they needed help after they all got cut up. To her it wasn't even an issue to be considered.
I guess you could chalk it up to draconean nature but it seems like she has a lot of other feelings, remorse and compasion just isn't her strong sides.

Itkovian- easily. He was the most powerful (not in terms of POWAH!) character in the book, to me.

Most definitely Toc the Younger. I also started to like Paran a lot...but he's not my favorite for sure.
after Toc I think I would go with Itkovian
