Holy crap, I'd read that blog post a while ago and found it amusing, and then the other night I watched Ocean's Thirteen. BLUE AND ORANGE AND NOTHING ELSE (OK MAYBE SOME GREEN IN TWO SCENES).

You realise that Erikson reads these forums, right?

And that he likes to kill favorite characters to get a reaction out of his readers, right?

Luckily the script was delivered months ago, but I say Fiddler has a 50/50 chance of kicking the cusser.

No, no, the Malazans are all out of cussers, remember?

But, they've got Hedge's munition maker to help them out now.

Experimenting with munitions ftw!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It's Dust of Dreams information. This is The Crippled God forum. All books are a go for spoilers here. (Except for maybe Stonewielder.)

If Fiddler does 'kick the cusser' we can be sure he exits with a big bang in Good Old Malazan Sapper style, and probably cussing too while he's at it. :D

No spoilers but the scenes involving Yedan and the dragon(s) are ridiculously awesome. Personally, I've been waiting for a book that matched Memories of Ice for emotional impact and this book blew it away. I phoned SE at 4 in the morning to tell him that I loved him and missed work the next day. I haven't read it a second time out of a sort of fear for the emotion it pulls out of me. If anybody feels that this is a poor or flawed ending to the series, I urge them to revisit it in a couple/few years because, and perhaps this will sound condescending but fuck it, if you've come this far and don't weep when you read this novel, you have some maturing to do.

edit: Mal posting as Hetan :p

Oh no. everybody dies and I cry, cry and cry, Wu Wu Wu uuuuuuu What happened to you you uuu.

BTW, that definitley is a wild buffalo (those are horns for sure typically shown as belong to the devil maybe Killimandaros in her not-so-attractive soletaken form)

If it's Yedan Derryg it would be logical to assume the dragon is tiste liosan related. It's unknown to us apparently so it can't be osserc or l'oric. Although we didn't get to see the soletaken form of the latter (not even sure he has one). But what does unknown to us really mean? Is it a totally new character or is it someone's soletakenform we haven't seen yet (K'rul, Quick Ben?, Osserc)? Though it just occures to me that the dragon realm is going to be opened so it could be a dragon related to Tellan or Thyr or an other manifestation of light.

On the topic of Fiddler, it could go either two ways, he dies, which would be tragic ór everyone else could die with him being the only survivor, which I would find even more tragic. But its anybody's guess since letting him live because everyone likes him is prettty standard, but having him die because everyone likes him is too predictable as well tbh. Hope SE can find a good mix for this, cause when they all live happily ever after it would be lame, but if everyone dies it would be equaly lame, an individuals death won't matter when they are all slaughtered. But I'm sure we'll see a lot of unnecessary sacrific, heroic saves foiled but dumb luck, pointless deaths and ruthless murdering of innocents.
Problem with trying to be orginal is that that in itself can get predictable (in other fantasy this guy would live, so SE will kill him off). Not that I'm complaining though, love the series and looking forward ánd dreading the final book (since it's the last of the series).

Here's the US cover art, by the way:

Re-reading Toll the Hounds currently, and just got to the point where Tulas Shorn jail-breaks out of deadworld. Could he be the dragon on the cover? (Unlikely I know - I'm expecting it to be the Otataral Dragon)

Hetan has said it's an "as yet unnamed" dragon. What that means I have no idea, and I'm not discarding the idea that Yedan will fight some dragons we have seen/do know in tCG, but take it for what it's worth.

How do you rape a cave? Do you ask, "You want to fuck, yes?" hear the echo come back, "Yes... es... es..." and get your barnacle-gouged groove on?

Its not the spoiler that bugs me (I've read DoD) but I was perfectly happy in my delusion that Fid wouldn't die from a cusser until your wonderful theory :)
that said he's got prescience/anti-random-chance-plot armour, so he probably wont die until he's done his bit.

Sure it's The Watch? Not the most unlikely candidate, definitely but what are the indicators? The sword?

As for the dragon - pretty sure it's a dragon and not Fener or whatever, and given the obvious orange color and its importance for the story I'm pretty sure that's the Otataral Dragon.

Or - another idea .... Kaminsod Healed? Afaik we have no clue what the Crippled God looked like and seeing as we knows Gods like Tiam and Kilmandaros, who's to say he didn't look like a dragon or whatever before he was torn to shreds in the Fall? The humanoid shape we know him to have could just be a shape he chose, something he could "build" with what little power remained to him.
We were never what people could be. We were only what we were.

One of our mischievious advance readers already said it's the Watch versus an as unnamed dragon, and the excerpt sheds new light on who it could possibly be. Go check it out if you haven't already.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
