Nice. She's got the spunk to be Lois and the acting chops to not have it suck. Kate Bosworth was so awful!

Agreed. I can easily see her in the role.

First official pic.

a couple of things. Not sold on the reptilian look of the suit material. I LIKE losing the red underwear as it brings a realism.

I fucking LOVE that they used the oldschool 1940's style "S", and I flat out love the folded, layered aspect of the floor length cape and how it sits on his shoulders.

I'll need more than a production shot to be sold on Cavill as Supes...but so far it looks cool. Hopeful.

So the poster and the teaser trailer debuted at Comic Con over the weekend. If you can still find it there is a SUPREMELY shitty cell-phone cammed copy online, shot by someone at the very BACK of Hall H, and is so small and cruddy that you can't tell much of anything that is happening in it, let alone hear most of it.

The good news is that it will be attached to prints of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES this weekend (not having done so would have been a marketing faux-pas IMHO, so I'm glad they did), and that means it will either drop later this week online, or early next week.

The second bit of good news is that it apparently was so epic that it caused some people in attendance to weep.

Can't wait!

Oh gods....YES. MAN OF STEEL trailer. Gloriously realistic like Nolan's flicks, and that score bit by Howard Shore gives me friggin' gooseflesh. Just wow. A STUNNING teaser.

Note: There are TWO different narrations for this trailer, one with Kevin Costner's Pa Kent dialogue, which is good, but I prefer this one with Russel Crowe's Jor-El dialogue, as it is VERY evocative.

You can also watch it in HD at Apple trailers.

I'm incredibly disappointed by that trailer (though the Jor-El one is marginally better than the Pa Kent one) which reportedly is only part of what was seen at comicon. That sort of Malickian photography doesn't work so well in a minute-long trailer even if Zack Sneider was Terrence Malick which he isn't, but imo if you're going to go for that in Superman you should be emphasising the icon shots...

That said, I'm not judging the film by it at all. The Superman Returns teaser stole all the money shots after all (that was a perfect teaser).
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I really dislike superman, but that trailer gave me goosebumps when I saw it before Dark Knight Rises

Actually, I think it works decidedly well at giving the impression that the film will be Mark Waid's BIRTHRIGHT storyline. A realistic look at how Clark deals with his powers when he doesn't know where he came from even as an adult. Malickian? Are you for real PG? The photography in this trailer CLEARLY not remotely Malickian...in fact go have a gander at the Iranian Cinematographer's film list and you'll see his track record is nothing short of a mish mash of films...none of which is stylistically avant-garde (which is how I see Terrence Mallick's films).

Beyond that, no...a new SUPERMAN film trailer (ion a post-TDK world) does NOT need to cash in on money shots. I much rather like the scattered stuff like young Clark with the red cape by the washline, haunting music, evocative narration, and a final flying tease. Perfect. Doesn't give awa y jack diddly squat about the film other than to let you know...in a quiet way...Superman is coming.

That music is from Lord of the Rings, isn't it? Right after Gandalf "dies" and they escape the mines in the first movie, I'm pretty sure.

Are they changing his upbringing to the son of a fisherman instead of son of a farmer?

It's funny you mention that because when I saw the opening shots I was wondering if this was the elusive Aquaman film that has been rumored since forever.

No. Though you should read SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT by Mark Waid (it's excellent as a Supes origin story), the deal is that Clark still grew up in Smallville with Ma and Pa Kent as a farmer's son ect., but that when he was an adult (still not knowing who he was and where he came from aside from it being alien and having powers) he traveled the world doing odd jobs trying to find himself. My guess is that is what we are seeing in the trailer, both with the fishing thing, and with him hitchhiking in the mountains.

The low-angled shots of a child playing, the scattered shots of nature including a butterfly, the pounding water, the voiceover... that trailer reminds me very strongly of this one. So since I loved that trailer, I guess I told a fib - that sort of thing can work in a trailer, if there's a pretense of narrative to go with it (in the ToL, the way the images illustrate the voiceover). In the Superman one, it's just some stuff and the voiceover is irrelevant.

It's odd, because the principle gets me interested - it's a very brave way to sell Superman and brave is always good - but the actuality of it doesn't.

Money shot may be the wrong word, but the thing is, to me, Superman is a myth-figure. Everything about his life is iconic - Ma and Pa Kent on the farm, his Clark outfit, his job, the whole city of Metropolis... to me the only thing that even nods to that in that trailer is the kid in the cape (and the shot of him flying which looks... okay, I guess).

Like I say, I'm not taking anything about the film from it - in fact despite not liking the trailer it's perhaps increased my anticipation, because Zack Snyder is taking chances I didn't think he would. I just found it itself boring.

I couldn't agree more. I thought the trailer was disappointing for a Superman movie, in that it seemed to be actively trying to stay away from the the iconic imagery that we associate with Supeman (Even down to the fleeting glimpse of the child with the cape hidden behind a post). I didn't like the flying clip that much either, it seemed off in some way.

And yet, I am strangely more intrigued than i was before, probably because i had forgotten all about this movie, and now i know it's getting closer, but still have no idea what they are doing with it.

Do we know yet when it's to be released?

I also got a lot of Terrence Mallick vibes from the trailer.

but it's just a trailer...doesnt mean the movie is going to be anything like that.

The Malick vibe is perfect for a trailer. We want archetypes - suggestions of stories and spectacle - which is what we get.

For a whole movie, then it gets questionable.

Saw a very brief trailer for this at Dark Knight Rises, tonight. It was basically just him flying straight up into the air, and creating the sonic boom, which was pretty sick.

I'll watch it no matter what.

Disappointed with the short teasers?

Well here is a fairly decently cammed version of the full thing that showed at Comic Con...watch it now before they have to take it down.

Here are your iconic shots...WOW this looks good man. Epic as shit!
