Lucy Lawless as Xena remains one of the greats in casting choices. She had it all for that role.

I really don't get the people that are saying Gina Carano, tbh. Yeah, she's tough as nails, and hot, and awesome, but she doesn't have that 'regal', graceful look, to me. And that's as important to Diana as being tough. I agree with those saying Lucy Lawless' Xena is a perfect blueprint- I don't really think Carano can do that (basically if we ever reach WW movie stage I want Lena Headey to play Hypolita. Tbh she would have been perfect for WW herself, but they were always going to cast younger, obviously).

Whereas Gal Gadot, I think, can play tough while also having that grace and poise. She is thin for WW, true, but I think the attitude in general is going to be more important than the exact look.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Gal Gadot chimes in on "too skinny" comments after her casting.

Easier said than done.

Women just don't gain lean muscle mass as easily as men, unless they're juicing to a greater or lesser degree.

having said that, there are plenty of male actors around who've juiced for superhero roles, so she might do so as well, though with women the side effects tend to be more extreme (jawline for a start)
meh. Link was dead :(

So QuickTidal is taking seriously a woman who believes historical Amazons had one breast. Wonnnnnderful.

Happy to hear she's confident about the role. She has a good attitude about all this and that's pretty promising.

I'm convinced they just have to slip her in bulky super modern Athenian armor. Again I just hope to see her act the part well and I'd rather she made that a priority. I'd rather they all made that a priority. DC characters are chock-full of awesome. I just really want to see them realized well.

Watched the movie again this evening and I applaud Nolan and Snyders ambition. The final battle still irked me a lil but I'm starting to appreciate what could transpire should they bring that level of kickass to the JLA.

“I represent the Wonder Woman of the new world," she responded according to BatmanNews' translation, when told directly that it’s been said she’s too skinny for the role, that Wonder Woman is large-breasted, and then asked directly if ‘that’ will change.

"Breasts...” she continued, “Anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels and everything is fine."

"Wonder Woman is Amazonian, and historically accurate Amazonian women actually had only one breast,” Gadot went on, slyly referring to Greek Amazonian mythology. “So, if I'd really go 'by the book,' it'd be problematic."

Hah yeah what a retard, with opinions just as worthless as everyone else who remembers common historical misconceptions with little reason to correct themselves are when making a joke about it, fuck her because not knowing something completely inconsequential to her life before this role means she'll be shit and awful in the movie

Your post is almost as dumb as the guy in the comments saying she only got the job because she's Jewish.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Your post is almost as dumb as the guy in the comments saying she only got the job because she's Jewish.

Refer back to the several posts I and others have made in this thread regarding the physical stuff of playing Wonder Woman in regards to the canon of comics/shows/movies, general demands of female action roles in Snyder movies and other casting choices for similar roles (Lucy Lawless etc). Note that none of my posts or any of the others focus on large boobs, as the completely idiotic interviewer you cite does. We're not talking about that or Gadot's background. It's also unusual to joke about something by referring to an element of Amazonian lore as historically accurate when it isn't and has been widely known to not be true for a decade plus. That likely means she hasn't done her research on the role and history yet, which is fine and can be fixed in due time, but it means she doesn't really know what she's talking about because she hasn't done any physical work like this before and doesn't know the character history/real history/Greek mythology right now.

So you can spoot right off and continue not having a clue about what we're actually discussing.

Note that she mentions sport/martial art training, which is basically wire-fu and getting used to grappling and holding weapons. There's no mention of weight training or dietary changes. She's talking of a regimen to learn some basic stunt work at this point - not to get bigger. Her casting is also purposeful in that the movie makers do not want a large for Hollywood woman (ie Lawless) to be the current incarnation of Wonder Woman. Gadot physically cannot get that big inside a year. It's impossible, even with the steroid/hormone cocktails she'll have access to.

Nah man, I just went off you going 'she doesn't know this vaguely unimportant historical idea is a myth? clearly she is a bad choice and Quick is a moron for thinking she is good' in response to a fluff piece. Not to mention everything in the sentence you write 'can be fixed in due time' in can also be fixed in due time. I actually agree with you regarding her build and how much mass she can gain, and I'd like to see a more muscular WW and not one who's going to be stuck in the same fakey dancefighting you keep seeing female action stars stuck doing in a lot of movies, but not taking her seriously based on what is clearly a joke is really stupid. But not as stupid as that dude in the comments.

Didn't mean to start anything. I was only pointing to the article because clearly she and others are aware that some might find her body shape consequential to the role, and she feels it's not an insurmountable task to get in shape. It was on topic with what we were discussing. I presented it mostly without comment at any rate.

And I didn't bother wading into the comments, that rarely yields well spent time on Newsarama.

I think the fakey dance-fighting is indeed a bad idea for action movies to keep throwing up on-screen. I'm not advocating for "every punch must be real" as that's dangerous and stupid, but it's really jarring for me to see characters interact physically with nothing and have it be CGI'ed into it being this giant physical feat. Their body parts don't recoil when they hit large objects, their bodies don't tense up when pushing/pulling things and it constantly comes off as small, continuous breaks in the suspension of disbelief. Seeing the Hulk swat aside a super-sonic robot with his muscles barely rippling is stupid, seeing a 120 lb woman effortlessly swat aside half a building with even less reaction is a mini-deal breaker.

It's one reason why I like the Jurassic Park/LotR-style of actually making the costumes, props and putting in real things to work with. There's something physically there for the actors to see, manipulate and react to and it gives a better experience. Having actors (and their associated stunt doubles) be physically capable of some demanding stuntwork is really a nice thing to have. They can hop around, pick up things and do things that would otherwise be done with CGI. That's what we should be aiming for, not the replacement of everything with CGI.

Plus the CGI industry is slowly teetering into ruin with cutthroat pricing, so I anticipate a crash in that industry soon.

The excellent unexpected casting train for this film continues!

Jeremy Irons has been cast as Alfred (to Affleck's Bats)...which is a cool casting. Love Iron's presence.

the big news though...

Jesse Eisenberg cast as Lex Luthor.

Crazyness!

But I'll tell you the reasons I like this casting.

1. I'm tired of the atypical portrayal of Lex Luthor in the past. Nefarious, easily angry, shouty villain.

2. Eisenberg proved when he played Mark Zuckerberg that he can do cold, emotionless, genius asshole perfectly. Award winning even. I mean seriously. He played a megalomaniacal, egomaniac, technofreak...that is like a dictionary description of Lex Luthor.

3. Eisenberg is also the same age as Henry Cavill (30), so we have a young, brash mostly untested Superman, squaring off against what will likely be a young, upstart business genius who is dangerous because he's so brilliant.

In my head it just kind of plays well as a casting choice. Right out of left field, but spot on for casting against type and hopefully finding another Heath Ledger type performance.

I don't like it. Even moreso than Affleck as Bats. I can certainly see what they're going for and he ain't a disaster but (and this is a really strange quibble but whatevs) he's got the wrong sort of charisma for the role. He's not as manic as Luther has been deliberately played in the past, but he's a twitchy sort of actor. Luther should be a lizard. Languid-like. Sure, he's an actor, he might pull it off. But I'm major wary.
If they were discounting Cranston on grounds of age, which is fair enough, I'd have liked them to have gone for Jake Gyllenhaal or someone like that.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I think they are casting AGAINST classical portrayal's of Luther, as it's been done.
