Hey minecraft people. How goes the building? Did you all get the hosting situation sorted? What mods are you running these days?

Hey all. Just letting you know I've deop'd oftenshadow. He was spawning random mobs in player areas and generally messing with other stuff. This is not the first time it has happened. I leave it up to CF and other regulars to decide what to do about it, but I'd rather not let shadow grief once more without repercussions.

Spawning random mobs? How does one even do that? I thought you couldn't do that in survival mode?

Apparently he was spawning mobs all over Jart's place, including Ghasts, zombies, etc. Basically annoying stuff, creating disturbances, and not cleaning up the mess. Makes for a poor MC experience overall. Normally I wouldn't care that much, because I don't often play MC. But I've recently begun playing again, and would rather not have to deal with this shit once more, perpetrated by the same player.

Hosting is still with CF at the moment so same IP address etc, no mods running on server so vanilla MC all the way. You should both jump in again

For sure. Thanks for letting me know about shadow.
unfortunately anybody can change their gamemode to creative, regardless of op status, meaning they can spawn mobs of any type with the new eggs. Not really sure how to fix that. I'll send him a message to cease and desist.
yes, IP is same as always, if you've lost it just PM me and I'll gladly send it again.
We are building a serious town over by messrembs place, complete with airship docks (and airships of course), some giant replica stuff that ADL is working on (cathedral at the moment) and a bunch of other junk. My current project is a farm. The walls are complete at the moment, but if somebody else were to, say, put down some buildings outside, then Mess might be convinced to extend the walls a bit.

1) I was going to start putting up my adventure-maze-thingy over by me, should I shift it back towards the town for ease of access?
2) I was going to OP-spawn blocks, I'm assuming people are ok with that as long as it is obviously op-spawned? I built my castle with just what I had minned.
3) I don't recall how to view the map. Anyone able to refresh my memory quickly?

Obdi,
There should be plenty of space relatively near to the town. The plains stretch quite far around the town if you want flat area, and there are mountains nearby too. I would say anything not directly next to current structures or generally unclaimed looking is better. I would move nearish to town since a lot of us spend our time in that vicinity now and you're more likely to get visitors if you aren't far away. I've pretty much abandoned my castle now, having built pretty much everything I wanted to build on it. Being near the action is more fun.
No need to op-spawn blocks anymore. Just use creative mode. Most of the junk around town is creative-mode-built and nobody has an issue with it. Just don't spawn a whole pyramid of bedrock blocks or something annoying like that.
I've been thinking of starting an adventure course too, I'll give you a hand with it, or maybe make a second course nearby once I'm done making my farm.
Messremb is the map keeper these days. The file is HUGE now though with the increased world height, over a GB.

I'll get working on another render shortly, I've been trimming out empty space on ones I do for myself which makes it a lot faster and more detailed.
CF, worldfile size isn't actually much different to before, might even be smaller now - the .mcr files are all old format and no longer updated, the .mca files are the active ones which apparently are much better compressed. Might be an idea to strip the old ones out and put them in another directory? I guess this is why /tp doesn't result in you hanging round waiting for chunks to load now too.
Edit: Have stripped out the .mcr files, they're now in minecraft/.mcr
Edit edit:
Render is up at Mediafire. Note this is only the occipied middle area, there's lots of explored stuff further out but to save sapce I've trimmed them out.

opened fine for me. Not sure what your issue might be. You did unzip it right?
EDIT
Also the huge hell/destructo area in the desert and the massive trollface are nice touches. I didn't realize they were there.
Also, mess, what is the deal with the map being so small. Did you just edit all the long exploration chunks and the big path out to Gunner's place to keep the filesize reasonable?
It's a good render anyway. Nice to see the airships in it. Half-blocks look funny though. They all render in pinks and blues.

Yeah I cut out all the random wanderings and long distance trek to gunner - leaving them in increases the file size substantially (notice this one is only 20MB,) cuts the render time significantly and also increases the detail as the full zoom out only needs to be about 25% of the size of the whole world meaning it'll zoom in closer. Not sure why half blocks render like that.
Any problems viewing depend on the browser you use - I switch back to IE to view it as that doesn't have any security concerns about cross-site scripting at all so displays it, other browsers are a bit more convoluted.

gah, now I need to resist the urge to redo every piece of wood I've laid in on the server so far. Luckily no half or step blocks in the new colours
